Mail normally isn't forwarded from county jail to state prison. They will probably be returned.

Any NY state prison will forward mail to any other NY prison, it takes a few days to catch up with him, but if you mail something to Downstate and he's moved before hand he will get it.

Things may have changed but when I was there in late 2004 I sent mail home to a PO box. I didn't have a problem in any NYS prison with PO boxes. :)

Half the time the CO's don't know what facility policy is themselves with stuff like that. It's better to save questions like that for the counseler which he should be seeing soon.

I'm not sure how long he's been there, so he might not have been assigned a counsler yet. You could always call and ask to speak with the senior counselor. If it helps when I was there the senior was an oriental woman. Ms. Lee (something like that). You'll probably get the voice mail run around a couple times.

Speaking to a counsler is the best bet, it's hard getting info between your hubby and you he can only call once every two weeks if the CO *remembers* to make arrangements.

too-I just put it in other envelops and resent to Elmira (where my son went for Reception). Never heard any problem with writing to a PO Box. Lots of people have PO Boxes-don't see how they would regulate that-in the rural areas that is all there are sometimes.
