View Full Version : A Happy 4th in Prison, Thanks to a Kind & Generous Soul...

Brian called me right before they shut the phones off down there tonight 'cos he was just bursting at the seams to share the news about his wonderful July 4th...

It was really hot down there today (here too) and just miserable, and when Brian went to the chow hall tonight the food was just terrible and inedible. Since it's a holiday weekend they're only getting the two meals per day for three days, so having something that awful is a real bummer. He's stocked up on snacks, but he was kind of disappointed that they didn't have anything much decent tonight.

But things were about to change...

It seems a man who has taken over some of the prison ministry duties from his late father asked the chaplain and warden last week if he could bring in a holiday dinner for the inmates who work in the chapel. The warden said only if he brought in enough to feed all the officers on that shift as well... probably thinking he wouldn't do it.

Well, he did! And Brian's cellmate (who works in the chapel) brought him back a fine holiday feast... potato salad w/ all kinds of stuff, sliced tomatoes, onions & cucumbers... some ribs... some other stuff... and the piece de resistance - a chocolate cupcake with icing! Some more stuff too. His cellie actually brought enough back intending for Brian to have enough to last a couple of days, but my baby loves food - he gorged himself! He was soooo happy, and I was so happy for him. Thank goodness for the wonderful kind and generous soul who orchestrated this dinner. Even just that cupcake alone would have been a big deal to him... but I am just thrilled that my sweetie's going to bed tonight with a happy and full tummy full of REAL, and wonderful, food! :)

He also got to see some cool fireworks over Huntsville way, so he's really had a nice 4th. I'm glad. Shoot, he's eaten better than I have today... all I've had is a bowl of cereal! :)

Nope, it ain't ALL bad behind the walls, that's for sure! :)

Oh Lysbeth that is great. What a nice man brians cellie is for doing that. And the man that runs the chapel is a blessing.

I am happy to hear that Brian had a great 4th. It is so nice to hear nice stories like this.

You know when you said that brian would have been thankful just for the cupcake, it made me think how lucky and blessed I really am.

Oh Wow Lys... That is so kewl! I love hearing stories like this one. Alot of those ministries do such wonderful things like bringing the guys treats to eat. Bless their hearts! I am so glad Brian has a cellie like he does...and was able to go to sleep tonight with a full tummy and a smile on his face!

His cellmate is a wonderful and kind soul as well. I hope he never stops working in the chapel! They have the occasional event here and there and those are the only times Brian ever gets any decent free-world food.

I hope all our loved ones in prison had a nicer day today for the holiday...

Matter of fact - TWO cupcakes! (Or so he just told me on the phone a few minutes ago... he got stuck in another dorm during count so he got on the phone so he wouldn't be violating, heh heh.) ;)

And yes, rather than saving one for today he ate 'em both last night... that boy just has NO self-control when it comes to food... :p

What a great story, lysbeth! Glad to hear he had 2 cupcakes! Hopefully on Labor Day they may get another special meal;)

It's wonderful those people working in the chapel can extend themselves and know that even the simpliest thing, such as a meal, can mean so much!

awwwh Lys ... so wonderful to hear for Brian ... his cellie is truely such a blessing ... I've said a little prayer in thanksgiving for the fella that orchastrated this ... something a simple as a full tummy at bedtime ... we all are blessed in hearing this ...

on a negative note (GOD forgive me) ... isn't it something this giving gesture was conditional on feeding the guards as well ...
