My husband has been locked up for 29 years, and has been at ECI for 10 years. There was an incident last New Years Eve before visiting started at 9:00 a.m. that caused several of us to get our visits suspended. BUT there is some good to come out of this. We have been complaining to DOC Headquarters about the visiting conditions at ECI and Soon the visiting at ECI will either be 4 days a week or they will be opening the East side gatehouse again. There is a DOC regulation that each institution must have 2 days of visiting available for every 1,500 inmates, so since ECI has 3,000 inmates they are being forced to provide 4 days of visiting or to have the East Side Gatehouse open to process visitors for the East Side.
If anyone out there was at ECI on the morning of 12/31/05 I would love to hear from you. We've forced them to improve the visiting conditions, but we're still fighting to get our visits back!
