Can anyone tell me what major airport is the best to fly into for visiting Ventress? I'm starting to plan my July trip and I'd like to book my flight as soon as I can but I don't know which airport to select.

Probably Montgomery Regional Airport. I know most of your major airlines like Delta, Northwest, Continental fly in and out of there...Ventress is alittle south of Montgomery..

Ouch! A flight into Montgomery costs $800 Canadian! What's the International airport in AL closest to Ventress vs. a Regional airport? Usually flights in/out of an int'l airport are cheaper than a regional airport due to the increased air traffic.

The international airport is Birmingham International Airport which is alittle north of montgomery...That is the closest one that is international...

As someone who lives out of state and checks airfares to AL regularly, here ya go.

The actual closest are the much smaller airports in Dothan AL and Columbus GA. However - they almost always have much more expensive fares (in Columbus' case, horribly expensive).

Montgomery is the next closest, but aside from some Southern routes (like Nashville to Birmingham) - I usually don't find a whole lot of difference in the fares to Montgomery and Birmingham, not enough to make a decision on one or the other anyway.

The Huntsville airport (HSV) is a bit more out of the way - approximately a 4 hour or so drive - but it actually tends to have a little bit better fares sometimes, not all the time but sometimes.

Don't bother looking at the Mobile airport - it's always bad $ wise.

One thing you might want to consider is flying into Atlanta. When my guy was at Easterling (which is not far from Ventress) I checked those regularly. Adds a couple or three hours' drive - and if you don't drive to Birmingham/Montgomery the other route southwest is smaller roads so probably even a little more - but the fares to Atlanta are generally better than most anywhere else in the South. Put it this way, I can often fly to Atlanta from Memphis for $100-125 but it's pretty rare to find a fare to any of the Alabama airports from here for under $200 and never under $175. You'll probably find a similar ratio in the difference between Atlanta vs. all the Alabama airports from where you're coming from...

I know that when i went to pick joe up I had to turn around accross the street in an airport parking lot. so theres a small airport outside the gates of ventress, its also where the sherrifs dept is. its been a long time so i dont remmember the name but i do remmember it being there.

Probably just the county airport.... most county airports don't accept commercial flights....
