Hi. I was wondering what kind of educational or vocational programs my fiance can expect when he enters federal prison. He was considering taking courses while incarcerated but isn't sure what the prison will have to offer. I should mention that he will be in a minimum security facility most likely a camp. Can anyone give me some insight on this?
Thanks..God Bless:wave: :D

A lot depends on the prison that he goes to. I was at the Medium security prison in Beaumont (Fed) and they had a "professor" come in once a week, for about 8 weeks at a time, to teach various classes such as Government (LOL). It wasn't regular college level stuff but it made a lot of us happy.
What you will see most of is inmates teaching classes.. Spanish, History, Legal, and so on.. Of course, they are not certified (most of them) but most have some sort of experience in that area.
The one thing you will probably find though in all federal institutions is Pre-G.E.D. classes. They are big on having all inmates successfully complete the G.E.D. if they didn't complete highschool. Heck, I had to send them in my paperwork to get them off my back, and until they did they were trying to get me into G.E.D. classes.
You can get corresspondence classes approved by the education department if you would like to take them.
