View Full Version : Are You Caught Up In The Drama
MrsSuzukiGSXR 02-28-2006, 01:18 PM It seems to me alot of IR mates are just as caught up in the hipe of there relationship not being exceptable as the ones not being excepting. Why do you feel the need to get afended over being asked to choose a race on a application unless at some level you are still defending who you love and who your child is. Didn't you know forms ask those same questions we have been filling out forms our hole life.If you are really going to take on this battle then the question should not even be there because who any more is all White or all hipanic or all black . There is no true ome blood line any more so then wouldn't that make us all Biracel? It seems to only become a issue when you are talking about a African American and another race now that sounds IGNORINT to me. Now this is just opinion of a hispanic mother and a African American father but our son is a product of our love not our race but the reality is still he will never be asumed to be a hipanic child nor a white child but a African American child and I for one have no problem checking that box that will inable funding for African Americans. Once again this is just my opinion and my husbands but I really don't see what the big fuss is if you know who you are or who your child is. The funding is there for a reason. I'm sure I'll get alot of heat for this but OH WELL . I'll always be me and I always speak my mind.
Kateeh 02-28-2006, 03:04 PM You answered your own question: If race doesn't really matter, then why even ask?
You need to undergo some sensitivity training for the sake of your child. As a biracial person myself, being asked to choose a race, in any format, is simply unacceptable. Choosing a race is like choosing an identity, whether you believe that or not. I will never choose one parent over the other, and that is what choosing a race asks a biracial person to do. Plus, simple mathematics will tell you that 50% is no more and no less than 50%. Yeah, what really matters is that you and your husband love each other. But in reality, society is a messed up place, and your attitude will only make your son's life in this world that much harder. He needs to know that you will support him regardless. There are already too many racists out there; he doesn’t need you to confuse him even further. It would be beneficial for you to understand where I am coming from because chances are your son will feel the same way as I do. In the future, tell your son that if ever he is asked to choose a parent (“choose one only”) to mark "other", he may be Hispanic but he is also black. No more of one and no less of the other. This is the only way that I have found that I can answer the question and still feel good about myself. Hopefully, by the time he is asked to do so, however, he will have the option to "mark all that apply." That is the direction many applications are heading, and it is also the direction you need to head.
And for the record: IGNORINT is spelled IGNORANT.
MrsSuzukiGSXR 02-28-2006, 03:46 PM Thanks for your opinion Kateeh good luck to you in all you choose to do in you life. Thats all it is,is YOUR opinion.
one_luv 02-28-2006, 11:10 PM Wonderful response, Kateeh. Sometimes I wonder how many people really experience and understand the harm caused by racism in this country.
Where did checking the AA box because of "funding" come into the picture? So you choose your race based on how much money is earned because of it? I just don't get it.
Crone 03-01-2006, 05:09 AM . I'm sure I'll get alot of heat for this but OH WELL . I'll always be me and I always speak my mind.
Great! Then you won't be offended when you do get heat for this thread.
People get offended by racism because racism is offensive. Why should anyone have to check off those boxes anyway? Why should it matter if you are hispanic, caucasian, african american, chinese, etc.? We're all people. These little check boxes in questionnaires and applications are another form of racism.
I didn't find your question offensive. I think your question is legitimate. I did, however, find your attitude offensive.
HeSoHandsome 03-01-2006, 11:37 AM MrsSuzukiGSXR, I love ya girl. That's how you know you sayin somethin -- when people get pissed off when you hit 'em with some raw truth. This is a message board, not a thesis paper, yet your spelling has been attacked?! Girl, let me find out they fightin dirty up in here because even in a fair fight, you don't hit below the belt. :D Further, I felt your attitude was fine. :hifive:

That box has always been there but it's my take before you took up with a man of color and had kids with him, you never even noticed it. But now that you are in an IRR that tiny box seems to be the biggest thing on the form. The race box is not a personal attack against you -- THE FORM IS NOT STARRING AT YOU!!:D
That box is for ya statistic collectors. Statistics when it comes to race come from a variety of sources, and those boxes is just one of those sources. That's how we know what diseases strike which race the most, etc. -- because of those who checked the box.
Further, when it comes to funding, according to the statistics collected of what race lives where, $$ gets disbursed to needed areas where a lot of blacks live, while $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ gets disbursed to the needed areas where alot of whites live. That's how it comes about that white public schools offer better quality educations (not all) than black public schools. Schools on the white side of town get good funding which affords spacey classrooms and quality supplies whereas on the black side of town schools (not all) are plagued with overcrowding and crappy and insufficient supplies.
Also, based on the statistics, supermarkets on the black side of town, the more hood the worse, receive the poor-to-not-great quality meat whereas on the white side of town, quality meats are always sent to those supermarkets. All you who live in the hood -- give it a shot -- venture over to the white side of town and buy your meat from the supermarket in their neighborhood. The meat looks like quality and once it's cooked and on your plate, YOU WILL BE AMAZED AT THE DIFFERENCE as compared to what you've been used to eating. Trust that, try that. You may never buy your meats in the hood again. :D
KAINZ 03-01-2006, 01:11 PM This Is Toooo Much For Me My 16year Old Says It Best Check Allllll The Boxes No One Is Pure Anyrace !!!!!! Or None At All Its A Choice You Make Its Not Mandatory!!!!
lilmoma_143 03-01-2006, 01:27 PM THE BOXES SHOULD NOT BE TAKIN THE WORNG WAY IF U ARE PROUD OF UR SELF...NOW IF THE BOXES WERE ON A JOB APPLICATION OR SOMETHING THEN OK, BECAUSE U MIGHT NOT GET THE JOB BECAUSE OF UR RACE, BUT OTHER THAN THAT WE ALL SHOULD BE PROUD. MY DAUGHTER IS BLACK/WHITE AND SHE KNOWS TO MARK BOTH , SHE IS ALWAYS TOLD PUT A CHECK IN BLACK BOX AND A CHECK IN WHITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Girl you got my point, where as others read into it just to have more to wine about. Opinions are like Butt Holes every one has one. I don't react to opinions nor my spelling when I'm gone from this earth I don't think my spelling will be one of the things I will be remembered for.lol I don't find the need to react to a opinion in the way you all have calling names and judging my parenting skills with out ever meeting me by one thred of my opinion. What does that say about you? It tells me you are not secure in who you are if you were you would of been like what ever and kept on steppen . As HesSoHandsome said you act like this is brand new its been there for ever and it only became an issue when you got with some one of another race. You need to stop. And when you are looking for a grant for what ever reason and its not there thank your self for not marking the box that supported that funding but then you'll make that about racism to right? Get in to that. But I'm ignorant.
MandyMeMe 03-01-2006, 08:27 PM cm-hurd good response baby girl! Put your 2 cents in there.
I'm not even going to go there with this one, Cause you know i got united nations at my house. WE gots lots of love here in NC!
Yall change the subject to a positive note would ya!

And get out of all this name calling!
one_luv 03-01-2006, 08:42 PM I find this entire thread irrelevant to the purpose of this forum: INTERRACIAL RELATIONSHIPS AND THE PRISON SYSTEM. There are plenty of places you can go for name-calling, bitching and criticizing. This isn't one of them.
I would like to remind everyone that this is a site for support, not a place to correct misspellings and talk down on others. Everyone is expected to have different opinions but please, if you cannot voice them nicely then move along to the next topic.
Thank you,

Kateeh 03-02-2006, 03:01 AM I thought it was funny that she spelled the word "ignorant" incorrectly. She would have made a much more convincing argument had she looked more intelligent. It wasn't name calling.
Thanks HeSoHandsome for commenting on my everyday writing style. If you thought my blurb was that good, you should see my thesis papers!!!
And lastly, I was really offended by MrsSuzukiGSXR but I never insulted her. I simply was concerned for her son--I know what it is like to be biracial in this world (black and white specifically, with some Hispanic and Chinese distantly) and knew that she needed some help for the sake of her son. But that is okay; someday she will look back and think "that mutt girl on PTO actually knew what she was talking about.” I am really saddened though; I didn't think that I would ever come to PTO and have to battle with racism. I get enough of that in the real world.

Please note that a moderator has already stepped in once to ask all of you to not be critical of one another I suggest we do that BEFORE it gets to the point that this thread must be closed.

haswtch 03-02-2006, 07:37 AM I always check "other" anyhow and write in "human."

Kateeh, you misunderstood me, therefore I can't accept your "thanks" because I was not commenting on your writing style. Actually, I didn't even notice it.
What I was saying is no one here is writing a paper to be turned in for a grade therefore things like spelling should be overlooked.

I always check Black because that's what I am. Though I am of the race that is discriminated against, I am not caught up in the drama, hence my non-chalant attitude about IRR couples in or out of the prison system. If I were in an interracial relationship and had a baby with my husband, I'd check Black for my child(ren). That won't mean I'm ignoring their father's blood -- that would just mean I wouldn't be caught up in the drama over what race my baby is.
sweetiehml 03-02-2006, 05:39 PM I always check "other" anyhow and write in "human."
Ha ha. I love this answer! So perfect!!! That is awesome! :)
mrschris 03-03-2006, 05:55 PM i don't find anything wrong with this post...and i don't have a problem checking any boxes for any reason lol. life is too short and i'm too busy trying to get the most out of each day to sit and argue over skin issues.
mrschris 03-03-2006, 06:00 PM and although I don't sit and gawk at race issues...they still do exist, and we as people HAVE to deal with them on a daily basis. and HeSo is right...the little box is for statistical info. there isn't an issue...i check the box as black for myself and all of my children, even though they are all mixed. it's really...to be quite honest...NOT a problem.
geez...just CHECK the box! lol. let's be real...there ARE people who DO love to pull the race card when it benefits them (not saying anyone here but the card DOES exist and people DO use it more than the get out of jail free card at a monopoly game).

Go head with your bad self get that funding anyway you know how....that is what it boils down too.....I feel ya on that one. I don't blame you not one bit. Screw the racial stuff.....do what you gotta do....circle it, dot it, cross it off, it don't matter just pay me! By the way no i am not on state but if i can get government funds for my education and my childrens education why would anybody in their right mind leave it and pay out of pocket expenses....because they don't want to mark they are african american and leave out the other race...OH PLEASE....Love is infinate you can make more when ever you need it ..... However money is not always like that.
haswtch 03-04-2006, 05:18 AM MrsChris, the kids and I are blue eyed blondie Euro-mutts, I don't figure I'm causing any loss of funding for anything when I check "other." I just like making somebody out there maybe stop for a second and go "huh?"
HeSoHandsome 03-05-2006, 10:32 AM White Amerika is a motherjumpa -- they the ones who started all this racism junk in the first place because they wanted to be THE SUPREME RACE desiring that all others be inferior to them yet conform to white standards. White Amerika is so full of dirty and double-crossing tricks that it would surprise me NONE if the people who collected the info from "those race boxes" CHECKED A BOX FOR YOU. They want to know information -- they want to hear about your sensitivities and offensiveness behind being asked what race you are. They just want you to answer the question by choosing one and if you don't, then they will just choose one for you.
What's up with the "other" box -- what I believe is up with that is when you check that or write things like "human", they will lump those choices into one choice -- that choice I do not know -- but I'm sure through the survey collecting community there's an "unwritten and unspoken" choice that they choose for you but never let the public know they do this.
I don't let them choose for me. I choose for me, and I feel when you don't choose one, they receive that as "then they must pick one for you," and they will so they do.
Just my :twocents: :twocents: on that "check one" issue.
HotLatinaMILF4U 03-05-2006, 10:37 AM Well it seems we've checked out this thread long enough to know that we will all have to agree to disagree, nothing wrong with that. For future reference folks, the IRR forum was created to discuss issues dealing with interracial relationship and the prison system. On that note I will close this thread.
