Ingridc 02-28-2006, 12:50 PM Hi !
Does anyone have the e-mail of San Quentin mail room ?
And do you know if there is some problem because my penpal didn't receive my letters since january...
Thanks for your help,
Ingrid
shieldmaiden 02-28-2006, 04:12 PM Hi Ingrid
Can't help you with the email address I'm afraid but I have a friend in SQ East Block and he never received a lot of my mail in January. It was taking around three weeks to get to him. It's a sad thing to say but I'm getting quite used to the infamous ups-and-downs of the SQ mail room

TheGeneralsWife 03-01-2006, 05:11 PM My mail from Cali isn't getting to DR in the AC either. Something is holding it up again!
rlewis729 03-01-2006, 06:37 PM This is strange...my pen pal is saying that he's only received one letter from me since January 11 - and I've mailed him at least four other items, before and after the one he did receive. Two of the envelopes even had stamps in them, but he's never had a problem receiving his stamps from me before.
We don't know what's going on.
thursdaygirl 03-02-2006, 02:11 AM I was there last Thursday and one of the guards told me he had been on mail room duty because other people are NOT showing up to work. But I won't even go into the fact they were lacking employees so we ended up losing 20 minutes of our visit time. He also stated that Valentine's Day has the mail room overloaded.
thursdaygirl 03-02-2006, 02:12 AM I will check it out tomorrow and let you know late in the afternoon, Pacific Time.
thursdaygirl 03-02-2006, 02:08 PM OK - I was there this morning and 3 girls I know well from the visiting room were getting chewed out by their boyfriends/husbands for not sending them paper, stamps, etc. Long story short, everyone was complaining about NO MAIL. Bottom line is according to SQ Guard, no employees, no mail until they can get to it and it is NOT high on the priority list when they have riots and other things to take care of. Sorry, I guess best thing you can do is write your friend, cause if your mail is behind, he hasn't seen any for many many days, guarentee.

FriscoWill this affect the outgoing mail also? I usually get at least one letter a week but in February I received only one letter the whole month. My friend told me in his letter 2/7 that he just received mail from me dating 1/19 - 2/3 and did say there must be some issues with the mail.
Snapdragon 03-02-2006, 02:44 PM I was also told that some money orders were missing. Please be sure to have your inmates CDC number written after thier name if you do send money.
thursdaygirl 03-02-2006, 02:58 PM The way the Guard described it to me discretely, was that room will sit with the door shut if no one shows up to turn the knob. Take from that what you will. Didn't sound cool to me, but getting shitty with the Guard(s) surely doesn't help.

I guess this explains why my penpal hasn't seen but one piece of mail from me since January 11!
I'm sure the mail is not high on their list of priorities...they could care less! Why don't they hire some help, even if it's temporary.
shieldmaiden 03-03-2006, 05:16 AM Received a letter from my pal on East Block. It is taking his letters only 4 days to reach me here in the United Kingdom. But the last letter I sent took 21 days to get to him. Make of that what you will but it does seem a bit strange doesn't it?

DaveMoff 03-04-2006, 12:28 AM I have on occasion had trouble with mail getting lost in various Texas mailrooms--strangely, it is usually my friend's letters that go astray rather than mine. Just at the moment I have not heard from her in more than two weeks, so I suspect the mailroom gremlins are at it again. What can one do but try, try again?
saltlakecheer 03-20-2006, 12:12 AM I'm just posting to let you know that I received a letter from my friend in East Block last Monday (3/13). It was dated 3/6, and he told me that he had received my Valentine's and St. Paddy's Day Cards. It appears that the mail room is inconsistent at best. Prior to that, I hadn't heard from him since the end of January. I think that was due to his not writing, though, as he said he should have responded sooner. Hope this information helps any of you who are still waiting for letters. Things may be picking up?
remiella 03-27-2006, 09:45 AM HI
Just to let you know that on and off there have been many lock downs in SQ and that causes a shortage of workers in all the departments including the mailroom. My pen pal said that everything has slowed down in all the parts of the prison. It takes a whole lot longer to receive mail or get money in their accounts.
Peace
shieldmaiden 03-27-2006, 11:54 AM Yep, it does appear to be getting slower. I used to receive a letter from my pal on EB every week. Now its become every two weeks. Darn!!! We've just started a long distance 'chess' match as well so this is going to be fun. But I have a cunning plan. I've worked out that if I begin to lose this match, I can always blame the mailroom for misplacing one of my letters and hence my next move!!! :) Then again, knowing him, he'll come up with the same excuse :)

TheGeneralsWife 03-27-2006, 05:45 PM My pal just said that he got 2 of my letters that were in big manilla envelopes the otherday. I sent them in February and he said that the condition that he recieved them in was "chewed up" at best. I am getting a little discouraged about it. He is in the AC and needs all the mail that he can get so them giving it to him so late makes my blood boil.
feline 03-30-2006, 02:08 AM I`ve received 2 letters from my friend in SQ in the last 2 weeks, and they`ve got to me very fast; but he hasn`t received the letters I sent him:angry:
lorsam 04-13-2006, 10:40 AM The last I heard from my friend was on 3/27, which is very unusual because I tend to hear from him about once a week. I suspect that the mail is moving very slowly again.
Waitn4mymail 04-13-2006, 08:33 PM I don't understand how mail can be messed with like this. To me it not only looks like inmates have no rights at all... but the officers in the mail room seem to be above the law? I am so frustrated with it all. I can imagine how my friend feels.
shieldmaiden 04-14-2006, 01:41 AM The last time I heard from my pal was the 20th March and, like so many others have said, this is very unusual as I was getting letters every week. It also appears to be taking a few weeks for my letters to reach him as well. I am not a happy bunny!!!!!
Lorraine
koala 04-14-2006, 08:51 AM I have gone from getting 2 - 3 a week to only getting 1 a week and i still haven't got the letter he sent me 3 weeks ago with a drawing he made me
tyhall 04-29-2006, 10:14 PM do any of you have family or friends on death row that are not getting mail?
shieldmaiden 04-30-2006, 01:24 AM Yep guys............mail at SQ is in an appaling state at present (see thread on SQ page) My Death Row pal hasn't received any of my mail over a 3 weeks period, which included 2 letters and three cards. He thought he had upset me in some way!!! The mail is also taking an awful long time to even leave the prison. Sometimes it is taking anything up to a week after your pal has written the letter before it is sent. AAAARRRGGGHHH!!!!!!!!!!

swampy 05-01-2006, 06:28 AM Try putting "in care of Chaplain" or "in care of Religious Director" it could help
jennie_ie 06-15-2006, 02:09 AM Hiya i know this was a while ago!! But i have read in various other places that even now there is a huge backlog of mail!!
Funny thing is My first ever letter to my PP got through straight away and i recieved my reply swiftly too!! Every other letter since i have had problems with!!! Seems the "older" mail they have they may just not be sorting!!???
But i dont know so dont quote me on that lol.... also i would suggest not sending Stamps in the post for a while just incase!!!!
Love Jennie xx
