I got this from one of my lifer groups.........
(Due to PTO policy, I did not include the email address to reply to this matter. PM me if you would like address.)

Hi everyone,

I have an issue I need to bring to the table. This is a bit long,
but very important and I need the input of not only CTF Soledad
visitors, but other facilities as well, so I would appreciate if
everyone would take a moment to read my post. The IFC for CTF
Soledad has just advised that the Warden would like to implement a
test run for visiting as follows:

He would like to change visiting on the weekends to odd and even
days. How that would work is if the last 2 numbers of our loved ones
is even, all even numbers would visit on Saturday and not Sunday. It
would alternate weekly so in the end we would end up with 2 Saturdays
and 2 Sundays per month only. He said he felt it would help with
terminations and maybe visitors can get a full days visit instead of
the 2 hours most have been getting recently. It was asked if he can
guarantee that visitors would NOT BE TERMINATED, he said no, he could
not guarantee no terminations.

He said that there are a couple of facilities that do this and it
works for them, I believe he mentioned Solano and Vacaville, so
please, anyone visiting these facilities or a facility that does have
this procedure, please get back to me and let me know how this works
for you. I would also like to know if any facility has in fact got
Friday visit back. Lastly, does San Quentin have Thursday & Friday
visits? Please confirm.

I passed this issue along to the other visitors and their loved ones
in visiting this weekend and about 99.9% had an ephatic NO to
implement this procedure. I was informed by IFC that we have to put
together some real issues as to why we feel this will not work for
our facility, or since he believes it will work, he will just
implement it on a trial run.

Now, we all know that when something is taken away from us, it is
hard to get it back. If this comes into play, the warden
has "promised" that if it does not work, he will put it back. Many
of us do not trust him to do so. Who's opinion is it that it works
or not??? Visitors or Staff??? He should be fighting to get our
Fridays back which we have been advised that there was money
allocated for this, but either there is not enough staff to do it or
more recently we were told that the numbers our facility reported to
Sacramento were not accurate to reflect how badly we need the Fridays
back. We could really shoot ourselves in the foot if we don't look
at this serious and get the issues out there on the Pros and Cons for
this.

So far the only Pro is that we MIGHT get a full day 1 time a week.
So far, can't think of any other Pro.

The con's are so many so far, I will list a few for food for thought:

1. What about family that comes every 3 months, every 6 months, or
every year or more? They only get 1 day for the weekend????

2. What about families and friends from out of state? All that
drive for 1 day??? And even if visiting for the both days is
granted, how badly would if affect the room with respects for
capacity?

3. What about if there are more odd numbered inmates then even? or
vise versa?

Please everyone, get back to me on your input so I can put together
something for our IFC reps to bring to the table at the next IFC
meeting. IFC meets every 2 Friday of the Month. Let's look into
this together and fight for the right decision for all involved, not
just what would suit ourselves, but let's look at the big picture.

Please do not hesitate to e-mail me if you have any further questions
on this, and thank you so much for taking time to read this long
post! I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,
Yvonne Chavez

I personally feel that 1 day a week is not a good idea I drive 400 miles one way and can financially only afford every other week. that cuts the number of days that I can see him to 2 per month instead of four. I know I was really upset when my visit was terminated after 3 hours but I look at it as I at least got to see him!!!!!! It is to much for me to drive 400 miles visit and drive 400 miles home. I wouldn't want to get a room if I wasn't coming back the next day.

What happens if on a Sat. they had visits and then on Sat. night they got put on lockdown????? Then all the Sunday people wouldn't have had a chance to visit.

And Kevin's CDC number ends in a 0., Is that odd or even????? Or does that mean I can visit both days.LOL

To many discrepency's.

I don't go to CTF, but if you guys need me to write anything for you, you just tell me what you need.

Someone said that you should never allow them to take anything away from you even on a "Trial Basis" because with the CDC, you might not ever get it back. I cannot agree with that more.

This can only be bad for you guys because there is no guarenttee that you won't get terminated on your one day a week anyway. I just feel that it is better to be terminated both days then to only have one day and still be terminated. And turst me I went through a period of being terminated both days every weekend for about a few months.

Fight this anyway that you can!!!! It just sounds like a bad idea!!!! And please don't hesitate to ask me for help! What is good for you inmates can only improve things for all inmates!

It looks like Calipatria is using the alternating weekend schedule. Here is a post about it…

Hi Ladies,
The only time this would happen was when the prison went on lock down and they would slowly start visit again. My husband was there for 9 years. And I love the CO's at that prison they were sooo cool.

Nenaz = What did you think of that type of visiting? Was it fair? Did it help eliviate crowding? Were there a lot of terminations? Having experienced this first hand, we'd appreciate some input!

To me this process of visiting might work really good when North Facility is let off lockdown cause it is going to be packed, that is for sure! I am not sure if I would like it as a permanent solution to the visiting problems but maybe when they start coming off lockdown.

Jaimee hey lady how you doing? Actually I liked it because the prison wasn't really crowded and there were NO terminations. And it was only twoo hours away so it really workedout well for me.. But I'm going to dislike it at SVSP because I won't be able to visit as much being that I'm 5 1/2 to 6 hours away so I'm going to want both days when I'm able to go.. If you get any other information please keep us posted.
BIG HUGZ,
Nenaz

I live in OH and fly to CA once a year to visit so it sure would not be good for me. Also there were people that came a lot farther than I did to visit and it sure would not be good for them either.

Because of responsibilities at home and my finances I could not afford to stay an extra week to visit again.

Would it help to write to the Ombudsman for CTF? I would be glad to post the link to the page with that info.

It states in the title 15- and I'll have to find the exact spot- that every inmate has a right- is required- to have 12 hours a week visitation. Legally the warden can not do this- I'd contact the San Quienton Law office

Title 15
3172.2 Minimum Visiting Days and Hours.

(a) Each institution/facility shall provide visiting for no less then 12 hours per week. Any reduction of an institution/facility visiting schedule below 12 hours shall require the prior approval of the director or designee. Regular visiting days shall be consecutive and include Saturday and Sunday.

I found this in the CDC “Title 15” and to me is does sound like they could change the visiting schedule to below 15 hours as long as the director or designee approves it. Or am I reading it wrong?????

Also when I posted that I thought this might be a good idea, I was think for CTF North because when they are released it is going to be packed! I wasn’t considering Central and South, sorry.

They do this at Norco, odd, even etc. It sucks. You have to get in line at 12-1 in the morning. They also split the visiting into 2 shifts because there are so many visitors, partly they only have 1 visiting room for all yards. I say NO WAY. Besides when we travel so far it makes planning difficult. You know like I only visit once a month around the 15th after rent and stuff. It would make it hard for me.
