View Full Version : Old Folsom State Prison
kikisgirl 02-26-2006, 11:08 PM HEY THERE EVERYONE, MY QUESTION IS DOES ANYONE HAVE A LOVED ONE @ OLD FOLSOM? AND IF SO I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE SOME INFO ON VISITING. MY BOYFRIEND IS BEING TRANSFERED THERE ON TUESDAY. I WAS WONDERING HOW SOON CAN WE VISIT AND IF I HAVE TO FILL OUT A NEW VISITING FORM. I'M IN L.A COUNTY SO IM EXPECTING A LONG DRIVE BUT I KNOW IT WILL BE WORTH IT. I WANT TO KNOW AS MUCH INFO AS POSS, THANK U EVERYONE......
jojo1 02-27-2006, 06:31 PM Hello, yes my sister just was there and she said that they were closing folsom per the inmates there... You should make sure before you go. They say there is a sign posted and they should be leaving in few months
twopaw 02-28-2006, 05:00 PM I don't think they're closing it??? My understanding is that the 'rumor' that has been floating around the last 3 years is now official and that they will be moving most inmates to mule creek. My understanding is that is why they are not allowing for anyone to send/ recieve quarterly packages after this quarter. My husband claims to have seen it in writing... but until the day comes when hell freezes over and CDC pulls their heads out of you-know-where - seeing is believing. My understanding is that they will be transferred in May of this year.
If your already approved for visiting at another institution within the last year you should be OK to visit and you'll just have to fill out an update form. Call them before you drive up there and make sure your not on LD 916/985-2561. Generally I think most of the officers who work visiting are decent - don't wear white t-shirts, anything blue or green - or show cleavage, or wear short skirts, don't wear spaghetti straps, sleeveless, backless shoes. That's all I can think of. Last time I went if you got there at 6:30 they'd give you a number and tell you what time to come back - if you got there later they'd still give you a number and tell you what time to come back. Don't get there B4 6:30 or they'll kick you out. The food is nasty. That's all I can remember. I hate that place. Take care let me know if you have any questions I can help with.
kikisgirl 02-28-2006, 09:08 PM well i have'nt visit the place yet and i'm already starting to hate it......i'll make sure i'm well prepared when i go to see him. so that means no sandals for me......i like being comfortable. thank u for the info.

About that sign What did it say? I was just there this weekend and i don't recall a sign being posted although my husband did say that they were moving to mule creek but he said by september. Anymore information about it would be nice. and yes the visiting sucks. It's very choatic and you could barely hear each other when you talk there are so many people in that one visiting area.
Gutierrez2beeh 02-28-2006, 09:56 PM hello all. I have currently been visiting for the last 8 mths there.Yeah, its crowded as ever. The last couple of months,I been terminated due to overcrowding.I didnt get to go last week-end but I will be going this week-end. I havent heard anything about that sign being posted. My fiance said he heard they were supposed to be getting transferred sometime in March. I dont know, its all hear-say until its really done.(know what im saying) Some of the C.O's there are cool, but then you have the other ones. I would really like to know more info on that sign that was posted. But one thing for sure, you always wanna call before making that trip down there. Well, if I can help you with any other questions, dont hesitate. Smiles
jojo1 03-09-2006, 11:30 AM Okay, This is what my sister said the sign is posted where the inmates are and we do not see it. She called his counselor and he did infact confirm that they are closing and will be moving inmates starting in March and then her boyfriend called and confirmed it. They are not sure where to yet.. Also I have been there before to visit do not get on the grounds too early or they will terminate you..If you are gonna visit make sure you let him know so he can hear his name because sometimes they go to the yard and the co's can careless if he comes out.. I always hated visiting there. It does get packed there if you want to stay inside find a seat by the bathroom that way he sees you when he comes out.. Inside is always hard to find seats but outside not a problem.. Once you get through the whole process you will know what you can and can't
sammielove17220 03-09-2006, 04:35 PM Thank you Jojo i also had questions. So i called my husbands counselor. She wouldnn't really tell me anything but she said that they were moving inmates. she wouldn't tell me if my husband was one of them or when. SHe said it wasn't likely that it would be march but could be april. she either didn't know or wouldn't tell me. My husband has been telling me mule creek but then again you never know. Thank you again. It's nice to know that it may actually happen. Visiting there is chaos
jojo1 03-10-2006, 03:54 PM OH not a problem Sammielove I know the feeling we hope that if he does get moved its closer and not far away.. My sister has been going up almost everyweekend just incase if he does get moved at least she seen him.. You should try to go as much as you can before they get moved to play it safe.. anymore you need to know let me know
sammielove17220 03-11-2006, 07:28 PM it's hard for me to get up there i just had a baby (his) and i cant drive so i have to get ride and folsom is an hour and a half away from me. but i am gonna try to go soon again I miss him like crazy.
jojo1 03-13-2006, 03:02 PM Good for you and congrats on the baby...
KeviesMom 03-15-2006, 08:30 PM Regarding Folsom visiting.... My son has been there for 1 year now and visiting has been ok. I have never had a problem. I follow the rules, dress conservative and visits are fine. It is all worth it just to spend time with my son (21 years old).
The last couple of months early terminations have been a regular occurrence. I usually get there at 6:30AM, get to go into the visitor processing building at 7:30 and usually see my son by 8:30, and am one of first group to get terminated at 11AM. If you leave over 250 miles away from the prison, you won't get terminated. We eat junk food out of the vending machines and have great talks. What more could you ask for (yes... I would like more time...):)
Most of the time we spend on the patio. Less noisy than indoors and it's pleasant to be outdoors.
We laugh about my "Going to Prison Clothes". Black pants, black tennis shoes and colorful shirt. (First time I have ever purchased a bra without an underwire... they are hard to find :) )........
Hope you have a good visit.
Charme:D
