Has anyone got married to an inmate in Tehachapi? after the marriage packet, what is required next to get prepared for the actual date?

Our son is an inmate at CCI. He has been in for 2 years and 3 months. He is due to be released the first of April of 2007. As we live in Northern Oregon we were scheduled for our first family visit on June 12th. During the time our guy has been in prison he has been trouble free and now finds himself (for the last 6+ weeks) in Administrative Segregation. For weeks he didn't know what the charge was but found out a couple of weeks ago that it is for "being overly familiar with a staff member". No one has talked with him as of the 19th of the month. He has been wracking his brain to try and remember any incident that could have been mis-construed as "over familiarity.

(Did I just make a mistake? Should I be somewhere else to communicate my thoughts and questions............I hope not. I don't quite understand how to use the site yet.)

Anyway, we were going to visit and have my 86 year old mother with us. Her health is that of an 86 year old and maybe a bit better than average but she still stresses over whether or not she will see him again. It is heart breaking for all of us. He was obviously upset enough that one of the people I spoke with at the prison indicated that they had had a suicide watchon him for a time. He is (supposedly) getting his "lithium" (mood elevator) for his depression which he has suffered from for decades. He is 31 and has much to live for if he can just survive this. This is his second conviction for shop-lifting. What a waste. He like so many needs help not imprisonment. Who benefits from that? If we do not hear from him that the investigation is at least underway and he has been spoken with by the first of next week I want to talk with someone else. Any suggestions as to whom? Is this normal for someone put in Administrative Segregation to be ignored for so long. They took all his belongings and did not give him a receipt for anything which seem a bit odd to us. He also has not been allowed any books i.e., not even his Bible. Am I over reacting? I am just a 65 year old woman who is baffled by the criminal justice (injustice) system.

No you are not over-reacting. I also am very distressed with our penal system. I would very much like to have a louder voice for those whom are not allowed to speak or are to frightened to voiced there concerns. The way I understand it is that the CDC does what they want. They are extremely unhelpful and show little if any commpassion for the inmate, thier family and or loved ones. Whom I would like to add, are suffering and innocent parties at best. I think CDC should be gentle with the inmates family and friends. They are left behind to keep the home fires burning alone. They are punished day after day by CDC flunkies with over-blown egos. They very seldom can get a question answered straight,if at all. Now guess what ? The CDC employees dont care. Thats there job! To not care! Thats whey they are working for the system. It makes them feel better. The entire insinsitive judical system is messed up and unfair at best. Staff is under paid and understandably so. For they are the left-overs who couldnt get jobs anywhere else. I have come across some of the most deadbeat ,lazy and unhelpful people ever. Perhaps, Its just dumb luck , however I would bet not! The stress, the worry and lack of information is to teach us a good solid lesson I suppose. (As if we really needed to be disciplined). Make it so terriblely bad that we either leave our loved ones behind or we never allow them to go back. Just my thoughts to a Oregonmom. I am so very sorry all of our family's are having to deal with this...However you are not alone.....GOD Bless us all...

Hello. I am still slightly new to this site and I am just beginning to understand exactly how it works. My fiance is in CCI, he is still in the reception program now...waiting to see his counselor. Hi, my husband was just transfered to CCI on Tuesday morning to Receptioin. I've been on this site daily for about 4 months trying to figure out the system. Some of you have had okay experiences and some have been dreadful. I am scared for my husband and hope that he is doing okay. I called the mailroom and they said that you can send stamps and stamped envelopes but I've read on some of these threads that it can only be the envelopes, please advise if you know.
He is in Level 2, Housing Unit 5, don't know if any of you have anyone there...I will be sending in my visiting form tomorrow, do I send it to him or is there somewhere to send it to process quicker. I don't think that he will want visitors until it is no longer behind glass, but I figure the sooner I get approved the sooner he can change his mind...
How do you guys deal with this..I miss him so much...

The stamps and envelopes they do what they want. However you are supposed to be able to send in envelopes by them selves and stamps by them selves. Once they sent my lettter back because the two envelopes I had enclosed where with out stamps. They were wrong to do that. But, also my man was in the SHU. but it shouln't really have mattered.
You can send your visitor form in a letter to him, the mail room will get it to visiting. He never sees it. When you are approved, he will be notified. IF you are disapproved, you both would be. (hope fully that doesn't apply to you.) When he mainlines he may be moved to somewhere else, but, you will still be approved.
Don't be scared for you husband or you will drive your self totally wacko!
You probably never really get used to him being locked up, you just learn to deal with it.

I'm new here. My Brother was just sent to Tehachapi. I guess he is in reception. He is in Bldg. 5 in the gym. Does anyone know have any loved ones there? Does this mean he is on yard 5? I haven't heard anyone talk about yard 5???? Any info would be much appreciated.
My heart goes out to all of the families going through this. It is extremly hard having someone you love so far from your reach. Sooooo very frustrating not being able to help or even contact them.
It is very heartbreaking trying to explain to his son what is happening to his dad and trying to keep his spirits up and not lose faith that his dad will be back with him. One day is like an eternity to a child.

I think my son just transferred there yesterday. Can someone tell me how it is visiting, how strict they are, etc. He is being sent there from Donovan.

Do you know what level/yard he is on? You might consider calling records and seeing if he made it there and where he is (if you don't know).

Visiting on Yard 1 is pretty pleasant. The Sergeant and staff have all been decent to me. As long as you are not into any funny business and act respectable, things will be fine from what I have experienced. I'm sure there are people with some horror stories, but my experience has been good so far. I go quite often and have only encountered minor issues or seen others encounter minor issues when the staff changes, but nothing major. Let me know if you have any other questions. There is also a link under CCI with specific information on what to wear, lodging and other rules. I found it pretty helpful when I started out here.

In my opinion it's not too bad. Sorry I can't say it is great since it is prison. Visiting has always been decent for me, the visiting staff is good, inside my loved one does complain that there is some good and some bad CO's but that is everywhere you go I think.

Anyone have a loved one they visit who is a level 2? I havent been there to visit yet and just wanted to know.

I have been to level 2; it wasn't bad at all. The process in was very fast and all of the COs were very respectful to me.

I understand it is snowing up that way. If anyone is driving be careful.

Welcome copswife! yeah you can send book as long as they are from the distributor directly. I send them from walmart.com and he always get them in about a week!

Love Barbmy son has been in CCI reception for 10 days and i have written to him every day. anyone know how long it takes for him to receive mail, send mail, receive envelopes and paper i've sent him? when you speak to the mailroom, counselor, are they all on the same page? mailroom tells me they get mail immediately; also, i sent moneyorder today - mailroom tells me its 10 days to post to trust account. what do they do in reception; do they really get about 3 hours a day in day room, yard? my son is in rc3 in a cell with one other inmate. anyone have any stories to tell about reception, i heard its 120 days, or 90 if they don't get into trouble. is it dangerous in reception? how long before anyone received paperword from inmate re visitation paperwork, and how long did it take to receive paperwork, and when you sent it back how long before you were able to visit. can they receive books from publishing companies, tell me anything! i know a little, but i get conflicting info from CCI services. Thank you; the unknown is very unsettling, to say the least! peaceful warrior

i don't quite know how to get into the chat room. i'm hoping someone gets this post. what does 'title' mean. anyone who'se loved one is new in reception, please write to me and tell me all you know about what they do during the day, length of stay, when i will receive my paperwork to visit, how long it takes to process my paperwork, how long it takes inmates to receive mail, how long it took you to receive mail, are they 'safe' in reception, what happens if the inmate they're with in a cell is bad news; anyone please tell me your experiences. my son has been in reception since 2/15. i've sent a money order - how long will it take him to get it. i also sent 25 sheets of white paper and 25 stamped envelopes - please tell me anything you think would be helpful for me to know. how long does it take to process my visiting paperwork, how long is the wait to visit. can you visit every weekend; is it true that you visit for l hour each saturday and sunday behind glass? so many questions - my son's doing 2 years with half time. thanks for any help you can give me, and God bless!

Welcome To PTO (Wackosmama) My hunny in still in reception, So I am still experiencing it. From what I know they say it is 30-90 days but it could go way over that!!! or it could be under, it all depends my BF has been in reception Since the begining of December, and he has no idea when he will get out of reception. They are able to have visits but they are 1 hour behind glass, and you have to make sure you are approved first and you have to make an appointment. As for the Mail it is SUPER slow for the mail to get to them. Good Luck :)

Thanks for your update and yeah I'm still waiting for my application from him, he said as soon as he can get one he'll send it to me, I was happy to just get a letter so I can now start to send my cards, letter etc. to him, if I'm lucky he may get it in two weels it seems by what everyone is saying. I know that I can send white paper to him and stamps. I called the mailroom and asked what I can and can't send, have you had your first visit, yet, I think I remeber some of your posts but not sure, my heart goes out to everyone because this is hard but I will stay strong!

I am new to this site but my husband has been down for 6 years. He was supposed to come home 2 weeks ago but was one of the ones stabbed in the riot on the 9th. I was never notified by his counselor he was in the hospital dying (and I am not being dramatic). The only reason I know is because I called the prison everyday for a week until they stopped hanging up on me and fiinally told me he was in adseg. I didn't know he was hurt until I saw him. To all of you who are going through what I am, keep strong!! I am sure if I wasn't there for him they would have let him die on the floor of his dorm. I hope everyone else has found there loved ones safe and in good health. I don't wish this on anyone.

I tried to call the regular line and they hung up on me again!!!! It is time to call the inmate family council. Level 2 has their own rep now. Her name is Mary and she is there because of all the complaints on how they treat us!

Well, from what she said there is supposed to be a rep on levels 1-3. They are going around asking how we are being treated during visits and what they have for the kids to do while we are there!! She was talking to my kids and they were complaining how boring it is and how they are not even allowed to run around when they finally open the doors to go outside. The next week when we came there were all kinds of new games and balls to play with.

Does anyone know where I can go on this site to find a lawyer regarding this "incident" with my love?

I've been a PTO member for 1 year but just now found out CCI has its own forum:thumbsup: and, better yet, what the word's "subscribe to this thread" mean! I'm 68 years old and sometimes not to sharp (duh). Just wanted to say hello and Thank You for putting it all together. My son has been in CCI Level 3 since the end of January and has mental health problems (due, I believe, because he was on the drug Ritilan from age 8 to 14) so communication with him can be a 'little tricky:idea: It's JUST GREAT to have a 'family' like this to talk and listen to.:grouphug: :grouphug:

How long willl this mail madness take place?? and does anyone have an idea how long it will take me to get approved i sent it out saturday morning.??

Well, At First It Was All Good. Except For The Fact Of Being Denied My Visits. Mail Was Quick And Everything! I Would Receive Atleast 3 Letters A Week Aswell As Him! Now Its Been 2 Months.=[.

Dont worry!!! The mail does take FOREVER.. usually 2-3 weeks in reception. My hunny is in reception and it takes about 2 weeks for him to get my mail.

mail really sucks sometimes i get mail quick and sometimes it takes up tp 2 weeks. hopefully my boyfreind comes home soon.

I'm reading through the rules for clothing on the visitor form.

I am planning to fly down to visit next weekend.

Am I reading this stuff correctly?...

Could I wear khaki/tan capri pants (loose), a t-shirt that isn't white, non underwire bra, and say a black cardigan sweater?

As far as shoes, are flip flops or sandals okay? Or does it need to be tennis shoes?

I have few other pants other than jeans that aren't tan, so I want to make sure it's only tan shirts that they don't allow.

The tan pants may cause you a problem or may not, it depends which CO you get when you check in. The majority of the time the tan pants are ok. Just bring extra clothes in the car in case. You can wear jeans, just not blue jeans. Black or white are okay. Sandals, flip flops are ok.

I just came from seeing my man today and they where co where moody! well they said no flip flopes and no shirts that might fitt snugged up on top even if your breast are not showing . Im kinda big breasted and he loocked and told me need a loose shirt I laughed . They got there way again :angry:

I visit almost every weekend and I have never seen them trip on flip flops. I don't wear them, but there are several ladies that do cuz they are easy to get on and off. Hope you still got your visit. You shouldnt, I have a Monroe Piercing as well as my lower lip and it hasnt set it off yet :) Good luck at your visit, make sure you take extra clothes.. How long did it take you to get through to make an appointment??

Thanks IDiaz for the info, it helps me out a lot. Oh my god I started calling at 7:28 am and I was using two phones my work and cell and I finally got a ring at 7:55 and then I was on hold until 8:18 when they answered, it is very frustrating I feel sorry for everyone that sometimes can't get through. My visiting application was approved in ten days, quick turn around, right? Take Care and good luck with your hunny who is still in reception right? It has been way too long for you.

Oh my god I started calling at 7:28 am and I was using two phones my work and cell and I finally got a ring at 7:55 and then I was on hold until 8:18 when they answered, it is very frustrating I feel sorry for everyone that sometimes can't get through. My visiting application was approved in ten days, quick turn around, right? Take Care and good luck with your hunny who is still in reception right? It has been way too long for you.

Well I have both pierced and it didnt go off so you shou;dn't have a problem . Have a great visit! Ill be up there to see my baib also.. :thumbsup:

The piercings should not set it off. I was scared when I started going so I took all of mine out, but later as I watched people go through with piercings I put mine in and it has never gone off for that. Only fake jewelry will set it off, but not the surgical steel.

No the hardest part of the whole process is getting the appointment. once you get there at the door they ask you appointment or non-appt. they give you the slip accordingly, you fill it out and drop it in the box and have a seat, in a few minutes they call you up you give them your id, then you have to take off your jacket, shoes and anything in your pockets and put it in a box. You walk through the detector and they hand you your box and the slip on the other side. You put your shoes and stuff back on and go to this other person where they stamp your hand like chuckie cheeses:D and you sit down and wait for them to call you for the bus. once your on the bus and get off on level 3 you go in that building, hand the officer the slip and your id (again) he will show you where to go.. you walk down a walkway go into yet another building and hand them yet again your slip and id. you have a seat and they will call you when they bring him out. If you already filled out a visiting questionaire, and you are approved they will tell him and it is his responsibility to let you know. In regards to reception visits they are for 1 (one) hour NON-contact, only on the weekends and you have to make an appointment on Mondays for the upcoming weekend. Is it possible for the hooks on the bra to set it off because other than the piercings I had nothing else on that would set it off, nothing! I had to leave yes, in tears as soon as I hit that door. The only upside is I have another appt. this Saturday at 8:15 and I plan on wearing a sports bra and removing all my piercings. Thanks but I am very upset about this!:(

Good for you today it took me a hour and a half to get through and this may sound crazy I was trying from three different phones!!! I hope I get to see him this week-end, I did bring back-up clothes but no back-up bras :p now I know. Have a great visit!!!:thumbsup:

Im not sure on the Black jeans, although i have seen girls wear them there, i havent had the courage since all my jeans are tight fitting. I know they DONT allow any tight fitting clothing. So I say F*** it and since it is only a 1 hour visit and he only sees me from the waist up i wear sweat pants ( ghetto i know :( )

You should be okay, that happened to us too. But to be safe you can call and verify where your appointment was made. I visited level 3 once then level 4a until he was mainlined and I went every weekend. I think they have all that planned out, but you can always check and be sure.

hey everyone.. just wanted to introduce myself to this tehachapi forum.. my honey just got transfered there from orange county jail.. hes in rc5.. whatever that means.. probably like section 5 or something.. i was so blessed to call today and talk to one of the visiting sergeants and he was so nice.. i asked if i had to be reapproved because i think i passed my 2 year mark.. and he said that i just have to go in and fill out an updated questionnaire and ill be good to go.. yayyyy.. i didnt even have to go through the process!!! im so psyched!! :yay: so i have an appt this sunday at 9:30.. any advice on what to expect at tehachapi.. im used to the prison system, but never been to tehachapi!!.. thanks ladies..

Welcome to Tehachapi :) rc5 is Reception Center building 5..Tehachapi , is really kick back in regards to the line for visiting, but they are strict on the dress code. The reception visits are one hour long behind glass, make sure you get there early incase you have to change, and take extra clothes with you. they are not too picky in regards to flip flops, earrings, sweats..anything else you need to know ask away!! If not good luck, and Have a great visit.

When i was going there, it took me 2 to 2 1/2 hours to get there and I am coming from Ontario, CA. All Reception is Yard 3 so the address to write is PO Box 1905, Techachapi, ca 93581..make sure you put the cdc number on there. Im not sure about the brown issue, they changed it the weekend my hunny left. im not too sure about the headband either. At Ironwood they let you as long as it is plastic. you can always call the prison and ask..661-822-4402

I have come to realize... the dress code depends on the guards on hand. I can wear the same exact thing each time i visit and each time they will find something wrong with it and make me change as if i didnt just wear this outfit last visit. I dress business causal as if i am going to a funeral and its still a problem. SO its frustrating to get the correct clothing. I wear all black and it never fails to have a issue even with black. I took off my jacket to hand to the guard and my bra strap showed for a second while taking off my jacket and the guard wanted me to change. :angry: its frustrating but well worth the wait my hubby has been in reception for 66 days now and thank god he saw his counselor so he will be mainlined in tehachapi so now goodbye non contact visits:D

No, it is the new lieutenant up in visiting. He is trying to make them go by the book and all the co's are confused because they haven't followed it for so long. I wore flip flops for 6 years and 2 weeks ago I was told I can't wear them anymore. I arguedwith them and now they have it posted on the recording. Well, they are supposed to anyway. The only thing to do is just change when they tell you and argue when they cross the line. You can always call inmate family counsel if they really screw up.

I aggree you can wear the same clothes every visit and have a problem. I have notice that if you make small talk and ask them how their day is and just be nice they treat you a lot better. :shrug:

Also, he just informed me that he has yet to see a counseler, is this the norm? Any info would be much appreciated, I live 3000 miles away in Ohio, with a time change difference. Has anyone else had problems with loved ones getting their mail, or delays in counseling? He is 4a Gym, anyone have anyone there also?

My babe was just in reception 4A GYM the mail is hell!!! The best way to send mail etc is next day through the post office it will get there within the week if you send regular mail it may take up to 2 weeks.....

hey regsha4eva do you mean priority or express mail??.. cause yeah i noticed that when i send him my mail it takes 4ever for him to get it..at least 1 to 2 weeks and he gets really antsy.. he sent me a really sad letter cause he thought i wasnt writing him and had forgot about him lol but then the next letter he was super happy cause he had just received my the 1st letter i sent him and that was 2 weeks prior.. it takes me about 2-3 days to get his mail..

2nd day express mail... it takes like 5 days.... regular mail takes like 2 weeks

(916) 445-6713, which is available 24 hours a day. You must have either the inmate's CDC number, or the inmate's full name and date of birth to receive information. The Inmate Locator/ID Warrants will provide an inmate's location, mailing addresses and relevant phone numbers.

Kubana, there are tons of bailbondsman out here in Cali but you have to come up with 10% cash. Was he on parole when he got picked up? Cause he just got out didnt he? If a parolee gets picked up there is no bail. (correct me if I am wrong someone) But if you got a bail amount then one must have been set. Seems unusual.
He may be really looking at some time honey. Have you spoken to a lawyer or the public defender yet? You can also call his parole officer if he has one.
I am very sorry that you are going through this again. Escpecially so soon!! He's made some very poor choices. Hope that this time he follows his program and comes out with a desire to be productive. Those aren't small time offenses. Perhaps he needs to look at who is "friends" are.

Yes, your mom is right. If he takes it to trial and he loses he will be looking at a very long time. Is he a striker? In most cases such as this one it is best to take the deal whatever it is. I am not a lawyer but in my experience that's the way it is. I have seen people in the courtroom sentnced to 20+ and life. I have cried for them and their families. It happens all the time.

We know of a young man who got 36 years and he was only 19 when he went in. He coudl have done 6 years w/ half time but when you try to take it trial, you better be innocent or your taking a big risk. Even if you are innocent it's a risk. One that I would not be willing to make. Thats just my two cents worth though. He wll have to decide fro himself. I am sure the old timers will give him advice.

More than likely yes, if it says he has a trial then you missed the preliminary and he's already let the court know he wants to take it to trial. Keep us posted.

I agree with diamond on this one. It's not over till it's over. Maybe you can talk to him and ask him if they offered a deal and weigh out the pros and cons to trial by jury.
He may still be able to take it.

it seems like your mans charges are almost identical to mine and he was facing 38 years to life plus had to serve an additional 17 years or something like that after serving those 38 to be eligible for parole... yeah and mind you.. he was 22 at the time.. he was being a hard head and since i wasnt really around when he got busted cause i had left him for acting up.. he wasnt thinking straight at all and took down the deal of 11 years with 85%.. and on top of that he fired his lawyer and made a big commotion at one of his court hearings and wanted to represent himself..haha.. lol.. i went to go visit him and shed some light his way and let him know that if he went to trial knowing he was guilty and fought it.. he wasnt gonna ever get out.. he would die in there.. me and his new public defender which was an angel from God.. worked things out and i told him he needed to keep extending his court dates so i could try and convince him to take the deal.. well finally he did and now hes only doing about 9 1/2 years.. its still a lot but wayyyy better than those other numbers...

if i didnt talk to him.. i know he would be doing a life sentence.. i knew i was the only one he would listen to and regardless of what he had done in the past.. i love him and he needed me.. just like he needs you.. so remember its probably not to late to take a deal.. get a hold of his public defender and see if he could prolong the pre-liminary and pre-trial hearings and talk to your man about takin a deal.. if he really is guilty or even not.. whatever deal they offer im sure is better than 35 years..

FV are no closer than 45 days apart. They are pretty cool. You have to send package first before being scheduled. Regular visits are okay too. I only know about level one. I'm not sure about your travel time but just figure however long it would take you to get to Bakersfield...take about 35 minutes off that and you've got it down. Tehachapi is a sleepy little town with several hotels and now a Starbucks LOL That's all I was waiting for LOL
There's plenty o fplaces to stay and things to do if you need to kill time. My son and I always go a day ahead when we visit and stay at the Best Western Mountain Inn...they ah ev a really nice heated pool and a cute littel diner next door. There's also a Kmart if you need to pick up some last minute whatever...
Takes a bit to get your FV stuff in order but the Officer is very nice guy.

a drive from san diego to La is about two hours and from LA to tehachapi 2 hours i heard...Maybe u can find a shortcut or something to lessen the hours..

Hi, i'm not that new here however new to this section. my fiancee Rob transferred 2 weeks ago to Tehachapi after being transferred 3 times in a year:blah: actually he's been to 5 prisons this sentencing term . Well we are new to this facility and it seems that there is abundance of challenges available on all levels. I do not look forward the first visit and trying to make everyone happy with the dress code, Corcoran was very picky, Calipatria they could care less, so everyone is truly different. So is jewelry a no or yes. Are pictures something that do or do not happen. Thanks for any info. Shoes do they need backs or not? I can bring in $50?

I feel so sorry for you as I know exactly what you are going through. I have cried myself to sleep more than once worrying about him. He has been there since 01.01.08 We thought he would be able to call after 30 days but they don't let them. He says he is ok but I am just worried sick as he is not a fighter, has NEVER been in a fight so I pray every day that God will watch over him and that he will be ok. Tomorrow is March 1, 2008 and I FINALLY heard from him tonight. Apparently they have "word" that the "early release" that Gov. Arnold signed is going into effect in March 2008. They have heard that it will be 03-09, I just pray he will get to come home. So you take care and God Bless You,:o

Hey, glad you got to talk to him finally. My son finally saw his counselor Thursday, so maybe after almost six months in reception he'll be mainlined.

hubby says its sooooooooo much better here, than in sq. He actually got a job, and this makes him happy.
I hope your son gets out of reception soon, Judeca.
