(no processing from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. due to institutional count)
Saturday Visiting Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Sunday Visiting Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
(no processing from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. due to institutional count)
For updated information concerning MCSP visitor hours or closures, please contact the Visitor Processing Unit at (209) 274-4911, ext. 5410.
Appointment Required: For non-contact visits only
Must Line up to Obtain a Number: You line up at the door to visitor processing (a two minute walk from the parking lot) between 8:15-8:30. At 8:30 they open the door and you take a numbered visitor form and wait until it's your turn. From what I understand you can't drive onto the prison grounds before 8:00, but there's areas to park (if you're early) right along the Hwy in front of the prison. But... I've never seen a huge crowd or anything, nor have I ever seen cars lined up out front. It just isn't an issue at MC.
Length of Visit Allowed: Holidays can be crowded but MC tries very hard to accommodate people and will offer them the chance to sit in chairs along the wall if need be. And I seriously doubt there will never be a termination of visits on a Friday because hardly anyone ever visits that day (not every inmate is allowed Friday visiting privileges and some of the ones who are have a job so they can't get out that day). Every Friday I've ever been there (which is my usual day to go) the visiting rooms are at less than half capacity.
If it is your first visit or you have traveled more than 250 miles and you have not been there in 30 days you will not get terminated. Per Title 15 Section 3176 (9)(A) see below.
Special Notes:
I have found Mule Creek to be very efficient in visitor processing. You do not usually wait very long to get in.
They have vending machines and the vendors come in at least once to restock them. It's a bit pricey but some of the food isn't "too" bad. There's usually salad, oranges and even avocados when in season (salads are $4.50, oranges are $1.00, and avocados are $3.00). Not a bad place to visit. Kids have a few games they can choose from, color crayons and coloring books and there's a choice of videos they can watch. There's no playground or toys though. Also, they have a few playpens for the babies and toddlers.
Allowable Money for Visits:
Adults are allowed $50 and children $20 in single dollars or quarters.
3176. Denial, Restriction, Suspension, Termination or Revocation of Visits and Exclusion of a Person.
(9) The maximum capacity of the visiting area has been reached and to allow others to visit it is necessary to terminate the visits of those persons who have been visiting for the longest period of time. Exceptions shall include, but are not limited to the following:
(A) Excessive Distance: The visitor has traveled a distance of 250 miles or more, and has not visited within the last 30 days. This exception applies to two consecutive days of visiting.
(B) Weddings: When an inmate and the visitor’s marriage ceremony occurred on that day.
(C) Disabled: A disabled visitor who must rely on special transportation to the institution/facility.
(D) Family Emergencies: When death, serious illness or injury occurs to an inmate’s immediate family. Clergy or approved visitors may visit the inmate to offer condolences or inform the inmate of the occurrence.
(E) Infrequent Visits: When the visitor has not visited the inmate in the last six months.[/quote]
Special Note:
Dress Code
No blue of ANY shade (not even turquoise), no denim (unless other than blue and be sure if you wear black denim it's very black and not faded), no gray (inmates wear gray sweats), no camouflage, I think no white shirts (not sure about white pants), not sure about green (I've worn it without a problem but the sign posted on the visiting grounds says no), no underwire bra, no spaghetti straps or low-cut tops (not sure about sleeveless, but probably not), no see-through anything, no skirt or dress above the knees, nothing too "tight" or "suggestive". Safest bet for first time visit is black, black and more black.
