I stand a very good chance of being sent to Renous in a few months fr fraud charges. I have never been to prison before and have no idea what to expect. Can anyone give me info on what to expect life to be like at this prison? Ex..how safe will I be?

I know a little bit about renous but only what I have learned from my boyfriend. He is also in a NB prison but was never actually in renous. What makes you think you have a good chance of going there as opposed to Dorchester or Springhill?
I will do anything I can to help you

feel free to PM me anytime :)
OK I just re-read your post...I have very high doubts they will send you to Renous for fraud. Renous is MAx security. My geuss is they would send you to Springhill or Dorchester. Possibly even Westmorland which is minimum, depending on your sentence. Has someone specifically told you you are going there? Sorry all the questions I just don't want you to get worked up about going to Renous if not necessary!
Welcome to PTO and to the Canada Forum Tracy. Glad you found us as this is a great place to come to for support.
I am sorry I can't answer your questions but there's some basic info. on Atlantic Institution in the Canada Prison Profiles section http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=82539&highlight=renous

Thanks for the encouragement...it really helps.
I guess the reason I am saying Renous is because I asked my lawyer in Truro if it would be possible to serve my time, if any, in NB so I would be closer to my children for visitation purposes. He told me I could probably serve in Renous. Maybe he does not know what he is talking about. I am not violent and pose no risk to anybody...I have just made some bad choices and got myself in trouble.
What would life be like at a minimum security? I have heard so many terrible things about prisons.

Dorchester which is medium is also in NB...and is right by the border so much closer than Renonus. So if your lawyer is trying to keep you close to home that would be a more logical choice.
Westmorland is literally right next to Dorchester and is minimum security. It's pretty good there, they are good to the inmates, there is no trouble there at all. You aren't even allowed to raise your voice at people. That is where high profile people, child molesters and "rats" go because of this.
You can PM me any questions you have for me about either place and I will answer your questions to the best of my ability. I can also ask my boyfriend anything I am not sure of.
Howlong do you have till you find out what happens? When is your trial or sentencing?

Please keep us posted TracyP. We will all help you out as much as possible as well as help you to figure out any questions you may have. It would be nice if we knew when you were going to court so we know if you got sentenced or not to time. Hopefully you will not have to serve anytime but regardless we are all here for you even if the worst happens. Please keep us posted and again, welcome and so very glad you found us !!!

I am no expert, and am new at this msg thing...
but you can't pick what institution you go to right off the bat. You will start out in Springhill (reception), go through the Intake procedure, where they will determine the "risk" you pose and transfer you accordingly. Atlantic is max and unless you have a history of excessively violent behaviour, (and even then) chances are you won't be going there. The SIR scale is what is used to determine your risk and the amount of security required to manage you inside. If you have good reason you can apply for an Voluntary transfer after they place you... but not from a medium/ mininmum security higher up. You could apply to switch between Dorchester and Springill but thats about it. You also don't go directly to a minimum security (Westmoreland aka the Farm). You have to earn your way down to a lower security rating by avoiding any trouble inside and doing your own time.
Good Luck.
