While in reception, he has no phone privaliges. He cannot receive any packages or books.

You can send him a stationary pack with 50 sheets of paper or a tablet(no metal spiral), and 20 self stamped envelopes from the post office. There seems to be a discreptancy about stamps. I did send blank envelopes and a book of stamps to my son when he was there; made it through okay but many on here say, no stamps at Delano. No pens or pencils.

You can send him a money order. The best MO to send is from the post office. Fill it out with his name, CDC # and housing information. Send this to the same address you send his mail. You can insert it in the same envelope as the stationary(I usually put it in a small envelope and write "money order on the outside"). You can send up to 10 pictures no larger than 8x10. Write his name and CDC # on the back of each picture. You can send cards but make sure they do not have glitter or stickers.

Do not use white-out, marker pens or glue on your letters. No post-it notes.

Time goes slow in reception; nothing to do. Try to write often, it is all they have.

I do not know anything about the dreads. Grooming standards have been relaxed for all facilities so they are probably okay.

Hope this helps. Phyllis

Mail room issues, call and ask for Sgt. Paster. Been there a long time and can give you the straight scoop and is very helpful. When you call and get the recording, hit "O" then ask for Sgt. Paster in the mailroom.

In my experience it took my husband 7 months to see his counselor all because of some paper work his counselor forgot to give him so make sure he keeps on top of it. Also you can only send 25 of each, stamps, envelopes, and paper. No padded envelopes and I used to be able to send him magazines. i visited every Sunday for one hour. Visits are through a glass and no appointment is needed for reception. You get in there pretty quickly and the staff is pretty nice and helpful. I used to drive from San Bernardino to Delano and it would take me about 2 1/2 hours. Oh yeah and there is no phone calls allowed in reception so your only other communucation will be through letters I got one everyday for those 7 months. Now he just got transferred on 2-14-06 and he was in reception since 6-19-05:angry: If you need more info let us know good luck!!!. Oh before you can visit you have to be approved of course so tell him to send you a form A.S.A.P. My husband got one as soon as he got there and i got it a week later it took 3 weeks for me to get approved. So I got to see him within a month after he got there. Good Luck!!

Hi Red......well - let me see if I can help.....my boyfriend went to NKSP Reception on 1-11-06. He's also housed on C-West. That seems to be dorm living - they're not in cells. It's also our first stay in state....and better be the last!! He has been seen by his counselor - about a month ago. He gave me her name & ext. and asked me to call her. I have several times and she has returned my calls - and also tells him that I have called. She's been pretty responsive.
It does seem like it takes almost two weeks, sometimes, for him to receive my mail - but he gets it. I've gotten 11 or 12 letter from him and I get them within 1-3 days from the postmark on the envelope. Make sure you put his CDC # on every letter......
I called the mailroom and they told me I could send 25 sheets of paper, 20 large white envelopes and 2 books of stamps (40 total) and no more than 10 pictures - at one time. I have done this several times and he's gotten all of it. Nothing has been returned.....
Feel free to ask anything else......or PM if me if you'd like......

From what I have heard, they don't take restitution from the money that goes with them, or from the money sent to reception. I don't know about your other questions. But this is the place to find your answers. My heart goes out to you and your loved one with a life sentence.

Hi JoeyzHrtz, Klinus is correct. They do not take Restitution Fees out during Reception. But once they hit a mainline they will begin, in California, to take 40% out. They do honor hardship. It helps to have doctor notes. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Does Any One Know What Depos. Mean? I Sent In A Visiting Form The First Of Feburay, And My Boyfreind Got It Back But It Said Before I Could Go See Him They Need Depos. On A Case Of Mine From 1996? 10 Years Ago!

Hi Jesse'sGirl, I believe "depos." is short for deposition. A deposition is, broadly, an affidavit- a statement under oath made in response a group of questions. Are you sure that's what they asked for? It was "dispos," meaning disposition. Then at least all they'd be asking for is the disposition of the case. (e.g Dismissed, Probation, Jail, Prison, etc.) Hope this helps. Good Luck.

:) Hey girl, I'm new at this so bare with me. I'm missing my husband dearly, he is at N.K.S.P. Delano. And I haven't heard from him he's been gone for about 1 month now. It is his first time, and I'm sure it is quite scary for the both of us for that matter. I just don't understand why he hasn't rec'd my letters. I've written him at least 6 times in 30 days, and I've gotten 3 letter from him, but he hasn't gotten any from me. While reading some of these remarks it looks like they take their sweet little time doing any thing. So I heard we can send stamped envelopes. Thats good. My guy went in 8/22/06 and hopefully he is only in reception for 30-60 days. 1 offense a level 1, so what do you think, will he process soon? Or is the reception the same for lifers as far as processing. Can't wait that long. How long does it take for the approval for visit? could I call down there, and check to see if I'm approved or do I have to wait for him to tell me? Need answers fast. Thanks Kuttin
