I saw in the lockdown thread that A Yard was locked down. Does anyone know why? Did something happen recently? Or is this from when that young guy died? I know we are all concerned. So please post if your loved ones have been able to tell you why.

We are talking "A" yard....they are always on lockdown! I've stopped becomeing too concern with the reasons because they very each time. They can't be off lockdown for more than two days...a week at the most, before they are down again. It's just the way it is right now on A yard but it seems there are some changes taken place and hopefully things will get better. I'm just thankful we are able to visit when they are on lockdown.

Do any of the inmates get to go to the "store" on "A" yard when they are on lockdown? My friend said that only the kitchen workers are allowed to go right now. So he wants me to send money to his neighbor so his neighbor can go to the store for him.
Anyone know anything about this?
Thanks

Canteen is closed when they are on lockdown. There might be some critical workers who can go to canteen....but that usually doesn't happen either. My b/f is a critical worker who is entitled to a shower daily, but that doesn't mean they let him out daily for a shower. Also, it depends on the level of lockdown they are on. The best way for your man to get supplies from you is through a package. And that takes longer than the mail to get to him. Over all....he will survive without what we think are basic necessities and he will find ways to survive. You can only do what you can to help, but overall it is out of our control. My b/f has found ways to survive during those long lockdowns and little supplies....it's not always easy but possible. He's pretty self sufficient and I'm proud of him for that.

Good Luck

My husband is on C yard and they have been locked down for about 8 months and he has asked me to do that. I guess that his neighbor is a critical worker that can go to the store, but he can only spend a relatively small amount, but the money that I sent him minus a small fee was used to buy my husband some necessary items. I wouldn't be too worried about the request, unless he asked you to send a large amount of money. I know that the guys do rely heavily on the barter system so things do work out in the end.

My boyfriend sent me a paper that all the inmates received regarding their current lockdown status. A-Yard is on lockdown due to the substantiated threats against custody staff. They arnt allowed pkgs, and canteen. But I was told yesterday by a prison staff member that he could receive a quarterly pkg, so I went ahead and paid for one to be sent to him. I just hope it doesnt last too long. I heard the last lockdown lasted 6 months.

Shawnie you are talking about A yard CTF right? I think they are referring to A-yard SVSP but thanks for the update. Megan

I still would appreciate any news on SVSP A yard! I get a lot of letters, the neweset my friend wrote on 2-14-06 I guess. And no idea why they are still on lockdown. A yard is at least now and then off lockdown (not like C yard!).
