Thanks for giving us our own forum. With KVSP being so new, there is a lot of confusion and we needed this. Also, there are a lot of questions I know from NKSP as it is a reception center and people need a lot of help navigating especially when they are new to the system. Thanks again.

We're concerned that by having the wrong PO Box on his mail that the PO may refuse mail. There's already been mail refused, though we don't know why.

Also, if there is an Inmate Family Counsel (there was at Folsom) and anyone out there has contact information, I'd appreciate that as well.

My son has been there for 3 weeks, hasn't received any mail, none of his property has been transferred, the money we sent for his books hasn't been received....nothing. My son was at Folsom for almost 5 years, we know all the basic rules> From what we've gotten back, many of the "standard" rules (which are supposed to be "uniform" in all Californian prisons) aren't at KVSP.

KVSP doesn't even have a website for information. :angry:

Dear MaraBlue- use the PO Box he gave you. I believe that is for C yard. It is the same PO Box my man has. Each yard has it's own PO Box. You can call records and they can confirm the address for you including the PO Box number. Mail appears to be getting better, but it has been real bad for awhile. We all know there is not data on the website and this prison being so new, there is a lot of confusion, which is why this section is so intense. We all share whatever data we have to help each other through the growing pains of this prison. To help you out though, most of the people have found theirs are doing better at this prison other than mail and some stupid rules that pop up occasionally. We are all turning into quite a close knit group here, as this is just too confusing for all of us. Hence, we are starting to piece things together and this helps a lot. Nancy

Hey! Everyone here seems so helpful with newbie's so I thought I give it a try.:) My brother Sent me a letter on the 17th of February. The only return info was his CDC#, an address, and a P.OBox#. I responded to his letter the following day. On March 10th he send me another letter wondering why I had'nt responded.:( I noticed that on his return info it now had a housing location and a different P.OBox#. Since my first letter did not include all this new info does anybody know what will happen to my letter.:confused: Will it be returned to me? or will they still give it to him? And if so if they will still give it to him does anybody know approximately how long it takes when certain info isnt correct? Any info is greatly appreciated. I sent him a new letter letting him know I hadnt forgot about him, but I'm concerned about the other letter because it had some important info.

Hi all I just wanna Thank you and this web site for all the info. My boyfriend is in Kern Valley State until Nov. 06. His mail is slow getting to him. I haven't received my approved visit yet. No one's heard from him in 2 weeks. I wish I didn't feel so discouraged with him, this is his 5th time back in prison, and tired of missing him. Hi there everyone my boyfriend is there in kern valley state prison. And from L.A it's about a 2 hour drive. The only thing I don't like is the visiting process it takes along time. So when I leave my home I leave about 5:00 a.m. because when I get there there is already a line just to go in there. But after I go threw all the process I go to the A yard and right away he comes out that's the only thing bad about it.

Hi Everyone . Thank you for all the help. It has helped out alot;) nksp rec is or isn't allowed visiting . I live in Riv. County and when I get approved for visits. I'm Looking for someone that would like to carpool for the weekend and visit on both days. On the visiting line I was told that the visits were 1 hour long and no contact. and on sat and sun. Is that right?

My soon to be husband thinks he may be transferred to Delano within the next week from Calipatria. Right now I live in Washington State. The visiting in Calipatria was very good and relaxed. They allowed more closeness then any I've seen. How is the visiting in this area in Delano? Are they strict like in Corcoran ? Any info anyone has would really help. Motels etc. Does Amtrak go there ? Are there shuttles from the motels ? How long is the wait to get in. And are the hours and days the same as all Calif prisons? Thank you I'm new here. And I'm not a computer whiz and this one is acting up often. Bonnie

well ur right about calipatria there not to stricked on closeness my husband just left calipatria now hes in kern valley in delano asss soon as he got there i made an appointmen to see him when i finally got there they told me i couldnt see him cause i had an fta so i ask if i took care of it can i come back with the minute order form from the courts she said ya but now my husband told me that they completely deline my approval n that i had to reaply cause they said i never applyind in calipatria so im going to alot of trouble just to see him but my husband sais the visiting rooms r bigger n so r the cells hopefully everything goes good for u on ur visit good luck be carefull on the drive up there its upphill.

dose any one know what happen in A-5 today i went to visit my baby and they did not let me get my visit and then while i was waiting out side for the other girls i heared the siren go off and the C"O's saying something about code 6 i'm not to sure dose any one know any info regarding that i am very worried about my hunny some one please let me know!!!

My name is Linda, my lover has been at NKSP reception since early May. His is also in C yard and his bunk is lower #5.
He's about to be sent to either CTF Soledad, or SCC Jamestown from what his couselor told him. But who knows? My lovers name is Mark. This is his 2 time in prison. But actually, it's been quite some time since the last time. He did I think 4 years at old Folsom for a totally different charge back in 1981-1985. Since the day he was release until late last year he seemed to stay out of the system however caught a case and got on probation and violated probation, which resulted in this term. He has many friends in the system and outside. I'm sure your lover knows him. He is very outgoing and loves to be center of attention. People love to be around him, cuz he's freakin hilarious and he's got heart. Ask your lover and let me know okay? I'd like to hear what the people inside say about his character and all. I know they all share a lot more info about us than they tell us. They assume we'll never come across their ceilees to hear the gossip. (yeah right!). I'll write my lover to see what he thinks about smitty and post you with what I hear.

Hi everyone. i am completely new to this entire thing. My boyfriend just enetered reception on friday (6.16.06) He was transferred from Pitchness Detention Center (NCCF). This is his first offense and he is supposed to be done with his time in September. he was sentenced to 8 months but only has to do 1/2 time. I have a couple Q's. Any answers would be GREATLY appreciated.

-what are the mail requirements? What to send? what not?

-if he doesnt meet with a counsler before his time is up, can his time be expanded?

-with september being right around the corner, does anyone think it is worth sending in a visiting form?

I got a letter today about something there. My hubby is in A-5. Here is what he said: "This is out of control. There was a hit tonight at dinner: the guy behind me went after this guy in the chow line for f***ing his girlfriend on the outside. The dinner Hall went off, pepper spray everywhere, me and everyone on the ground. This ain't no joke." He also said there was a hit on someone on Friday or Saturday, he couldnt remember what day. It was at mail call. Someone emailed me this today too:
On June 12, at approximately 1205 hours, approximately ten Hispanic inmates engaged in a fight on the dayroom floor at North Kern State Prison. Despite verbal commands by staff to stop fighting, the involved inmates scattered throughout the dorm before obeying the order to ‘get down’. Responding staff arrived and began identifying the suspected inmates involved. An unclothed body search of all inmates in the unit was conducted and there were approximately two Southern Hispanic and five Mexican National (Paisa) inmates discovered with injuries consistent with being involved in this incident. All the suspects were treated for their injuries and were re-housed without incident.

At North Kern State Prison yesterday at about 0738 hours, inmate G was assaulting another inmate in the dayroom. Inmate G refused orders to stop the attacking, requiring the control booth officer to fire two 40mm direct impact rounds. Responding staff used pepper spray to quell the attack. The inmates were decontaminated and re-housed

Different day, but I called hubbys counselor today, kind of freaked out. He was like "Oh he is safe here. It is very safe here." It doesn't really seem like it to me...please post again if you hear anything else. Ill do the same.

i just spoke to my hubbies counselor and she said that she has not yet spoken to him that she will within the next few weeks (few?) and she asked me where was he from, cause i asked her if she knew where he would be transferred, and i told her he was born here and she said that the only reason she is asking cause there is southern and the others i guess would be the paisas that they dont get along so they try to keep them segregated from each other... and she asked me what he was in for so i told her and she said he MIGHT go to CCF. what is this and where is this can anyone help me figure this out pls..

CCF is level one. Stands for Community correctional Facility. There isn't much info on them on PTO, I found this on the CDC website: http://www.cya.ca.gov/Visitors/docs/CCF_Addresses.pdf but I know a guy who went to one in Coalinga, CA. They are just really low security, etc. I dont know much else.
But to let you know, it seems like no one ever goes to where the counselor says so its sort of a waiting game til he sees her and then supposedly a few weeks later, he will go somewhere. My hubby is supposed to go to Chino or Donovan, but he probably wont. If they are level one, usually I guess they will go to wherever there is a level one bed open. Hopefully near us, right??!!!

i hear you, i know i just read that no one usually goes to where the counselor says.. but i hope he does stay near me, but if not i am still going to go on a friday night get a room and come back on sunday after visit.. my hubby is all i have, besides my kids of course, so i will follow him to where ever he goes... but i also read that level one in any prison is really cool, one lady said that her hubby said it was like camp snoopy.... so i will just have to wait and see... and on my visiting as well its been 2 weeks since i mailed out my application and i called today but the lady was rude so i will try again tomorrow.. it wont hurt to try..

I am in exactly the same boat. I would fly, run, walk, swim, bike, rollerskate, I dont care-to finally get to see him, even just between glass is okay at this point. Its been two weeks since I sent my app. too, but no word yet. Keep me posted, its good to have someone who is going thru the same thing.

hey people my baby is in North Kern State Prison in delano and i wanted to no what you have to wear when you go...can you wear black you no sumthing small like a jacket...and my baby has not wrote to me or any of his family in two weeks could it be that its one lock down..

Black is fine but nothign to tight or belly or low back revealing less metal the better not only for you but also for everyone else waiting to go through. anything else let me know.

I can't seem to locate any info on the web, at least nothing current, on KVSP. Does any one have phone numbers to call to find out if they are in a lockdown status, etc.?

Appreciate any information on KVSP. I know that there is some inconsistent practice going on there with the changes to soem of the staff so also if anyone has any info on an advocacy group that I may be albe to contact please provide.

I don't have any problems with sending or receiving mail, it usually takes 4 days or less for me. I'm wondering if what you write in the mail that has something to do with it? Just wondering,sense they do read your mail I suppose.

Ms. Missouri, yes he has to send you a visiting form. Curious, how did he get all the way down here in CA? for processng??? My husband is also there at NKSP. he sent me a visiting form the first week he got there, and that got to me fast. All of his letters get to me within 2-3 days, it's the out going that takes weeks at a time. So write him and tell him to send you a form. So you could get that process going. It takes around 30 days for approval. Good luck. Kuttin

my boyfriend is in delano and I sent in my visiting request form, they sent me back a paper saying I was denied. I forgot to put the cdc number of my babys father on there. can I just fill out another visiting request form and send it in? or do I need to send a letter to the warden?:confused:

Hello everyone I was wondering if anyone knows what happened in B yard over in N.K.S.P 'cause I went to try to visit my husband on Sunday 10/15/06 and they told me that the Hispanics in B yard where on lock down I was so sad and still sad i'ts like if I'm not meant to see him I first went to visit him at NKSP and they said I wasn't approved the I went to KVSP and it was only and hour visit over the phone 'cause he wasn't classified and this time they're on lock down I'm going crazzzy! I'm from Los Angeles so if anyone wants to carpool let me know I hate to drive alone.

my pomkie is nksp he's in b1 cell 233 reception if any one has a man in that unit let me know i still havent gotten my request for visiting back and it;s been a lil; over a month.

How soon do they allow you to write a letter@ NKSP....do they supply you with PAPER & ENVELOPE??.....He was transferred frm county 2 NKSP on NOV 1,06 I havent recieved no letter yet....@ county we spoke quite frequently.

Um, I don't think they ever supply writing materials... I've never heard of that. You are allowed to send up to 50 sheets of paper, I believe, and they have to be loose leaf or on a legal pad. I send my friend a return envelope every time I write him, the kind with embossed postage on it. I get those at the post office. Good luck!

Hi there I'm Donna, Gars_Mom, Thanks so much for this site. My son has been at NKSP for about 10 days, he was transferred from Tulare County. I had put money on his books at Bob Wiley and it followed him but I am not sure how long it will take before he can access it. I believe he was able to take the stamped envelopes with him as he has already sent out several letters .

As I understand it as long as they are in reception they can not recieve any writting materials..... somebody else may know more about this. Also even if their funds are available to them to order envelopes in County they could only order on a certain day and then recieve them on Monday's. I am not sure if they get any "welfare evelopes", (as the guys call them), that they recieved at County lock up or not.

I am also experiencing the prison system for the first time and appreciate all the information.

In reception there's no phone calls, but you can send them a pkg of 50 sheets of paper and postage paid envelopes, (get from post office). You can send them 2 pens (clear see through) in sealed pkg. That's about it until they get out of reception.

I'm hoping someone will be able to help w/ visiting question. my brother is the inmate and I (his sister am an approved visitor). My husband just got approved and on his visiting form we listed our minor son. but the visit I'm planning to make this weekend would just be me & my son, with out my husband. Will they allow my son to visit w/ me? Should I take his birth certificate? Or will they only let the accompaning minor visit w/ the adult they were approved with?:confused:

Oh, and I forgot to note that he's at New Delano KVSP.

Anyone hear of their being changes to "half timers" sentencing after March?? Scuttlebutt around Delano is that half timers after March will be cut down to 85% as opposed to 50%...true or false?? This is where my fiance is so pleeaaasssee help with confirmation:)

The only phone company i know about is Called Evercom ( Correctional Billing Services ) and they told me that NKSP are covered by them. I had a friend who was sent to NKSP back in november for reception and is now on a level 1 yard where he will do the remainder of his time. I wrote him while in reception and now on the new yard and mail was slow but bareable. my boyfriend was sent to nksp for reception a few weekes ago and i have wrote him alot of letters and nothing has yet to get to him! It breaks my heart cause i get a letter almost daily from him and in every letter he asks me if i just gave up on him and tells me how much he misses me and wishes he would get a letter cause he still has not gotten anything from me. They both were on C yard so why would one get it ok and the other nothing? Can anyone help me??

If you are goin to travel you should contact friends on the outside 661-725-3833 they help with transpo from hotels and bus stations, and they answer questions you might have try to get ther early when visiting sometimes it takes an hour to get in. Also a lil bird told me that they move bothas in and out depending on behavior , visits and outside contact.They watch to see if they have people who care about them.. sounds stupid hun... helll this whole system is stupid. hope this helps Tunisia. Hey girl stay strong, hey they cant get the tatoo flicks sometimes stuff goes through but they are prety stupid about what can be sent there i sent pictures and they got returned because they where .5 inch too big...stupid the best way i found is to scan the photos on paper and then send it like that. you need to call the mail room. Also if they move rooms they hold their mail even if they just move one room over.I complain and write letters at the same time when they see your persistant they do thier job. But just like they watch our men we have to watch them . Some of those gaurds need to be in prision instead of these brothas!

I recommend you call visiting at (661)721-6360 (I think that's the #). Visiting changes all the time-- what you can wear, especially-- and lockdowns are frequent. It's a shame to drive all the way there, just to find out you weren't supposed to wear orange, or that they are on lockdown that weekend. You know?:mad:

LASD page says that he has been released to North Kern County State Prison, Delano. I have a few questions..... I found the inmate locator number, but do you know how long I have to wait before calling ... I want to find out his cdc number. I have read confusing information regarding visiting while he's in reception. I have read that there is no visiting while in reception. I have also read that they are allowed one courteosy visit while in reception, which is 1hour long and no contact. Then I have also read (Imay have misunderstood) that they are allowed weekly visist - no contact for 1hour. Can anyone clear this up for me? And if visiting is allowed, do I need to be approved? And if so, can I request a visiting form, or do I have to wait for him to send it to me? Thanks a lot.

Yup they Are not allowed to use the damn phone, NKSP is a reception center so they have to wait untill transfered to mainline I know it sucks

They Are not allowed to do really nothing there at NKSP only write it sucks and NKSP is a reception center so in order to make phone calls they have to wait to get to mainline

try calling the information number at 916-445-6713 give them his name, last name and full date of birth or cdcr # and they will give you his exact location and writing address...

I have learned something today and that was there are people who are taking things that are posted in other groups and sharing them with others. E yard at KVSP is the Level 1 yard. It's actually outside the prison's fence line. It's a safe yard and never has any trouble. You're lucky he's a L1 and on that yard. :-)

Dont worry, Luis was also moved 3 times ...... but after the third move, he has'nt moved since ...... By the way, I read that you sent him a big envelope with envelopes, paper abd stamps ...... fyi ..... you can only send him pre stamped envelopes (from the post office) - 10 at a time, so your envelope may be sent back to you .... I have had three returned to me ..... I can tell you for sure that he's allowed to get 25 sheets of lined blank lined paper (no drawing paper), 10 pre stamped envelopes, and 10 pictures each envelope (and the big envelopes do get there faster). Hello, My husband has been in KVSP since July of last year. He has been is in ADSEG since January. He is waiting to get transfered out. I have to say this is one of the more difficult prisons to deal with.

I know that they can not make calls while in reception, but I keep getting these calls from an unavailible number and when I answer, the phone disconnects. I called MCI and they said that there has been no calls from a correctional facility to my number. Because his time is really short, I wonder if they classified him really fast.

WHAT R U NEW? Yes I am. I just had my second visit to KVSP to see a man I've been Pen Pals with over 7 years...My first visit was New Years Eve 2007. It has taken me 7 months to return, On my Birthday July 21st I made another surprise visit. I realized on this visit my letters are not enough...I want more, more looking into his eyes, hearing his voice, his scent, his touch. The one man that has had to read every word in my head, I placed on the back burner, for whenever I get there...What was I thinking. I fell in love yesterday, with my Pen Pal prisoner. I'm here for friendships that will share a ride, I will drive, and a room. My weekends will be going to Delano.

Hi all... I just sent alot of stuff today and going through this thread all over again I've grown weary:sleepy: . I sent 2 manillo envelopes w/ 10 pre-stamped envelopes in each. I read an older post that said that they don't supply any writing material while in reception so I was wondering about the paper and pen situation? Can I or Can I not send him paper (legal pad) or pens? I've only received 1 letter from him so far and I need to hear from him a whole lot more. Also, I sent off alot of letters and some cards does anyone know about how long it might take for him to receive these things or if he'll receive any of them because from the previous posts there were alot of inmates who weren't receiving the mail from their loved ones....HELP!!! starting to worry all over again!!!!:eek:

Are we able to send the 50 sheets of lined paper, with pre-paid envelopes? Or book of stamps? Can more than one people send these items? What about care packages?

I KNOW you can send in 20 sheets of lined paper at a time (remove the cardboard backing if it's a pad), and 20 envelopes. 40 stamps, and 10 pictures. Pictures cannot contain nudity or gang related material. Intimate letters will be reviewed, but send at your own descretion.

My guy is mainline at NKSP (been there four years now), not reception. All that means is that your man is going through classification as you mentioned, and will most likely be transferred to another facility in the next 90 days or so. Hang on, even Magic Mountain doesn't have a ride as crazy as the one you will experience for the next couple years! But there are lots of folks out there who can help!!

..forgot to tell you....call NKSP at 661.721.2345 and as for the mailroom. They can give you a list of the items he can receive. Also, RECORDS can tell you his exact housing (Dorm number B-? and bed number). If you need an address to write to, ask the mailroom.

Hi, I'm, new to all this as well. This, however, this isn't my husbands first time going through this...Lucky #7. He was doing great, had been out for 3 1/2 years, but I think that this time it will be his last. This time it's way different for him. All the other times he was in, it was just him. This time he has 2 baby boys, and a wife. He has a reason now. By the way does anybody know anything about the out of state prison transfers? Which states are on the list and all that? You can call the inmate locator number 916-445-6713, and they will either ask you for his CDC# or if you dont have it just yet they'll ask for his first and last name and birthdate. Try that and see if it works.:)

Visiting for reception inmates are non-contact 1-hour visits - no appointment is necessary, but you must be approved before you can visit. The inmate must send you the visiting application and he MUST SIGN it BEFORE he sends it to you. Visiting approval takes about a month, but can take longer. Reception inmate do not have phone privileges.

But again as you know i'm new to this and i'm completely clueless. it does help to know that at least i will be in contact with him by letter. I will send him a postcard first to see if he receives it and that he nesds to signed it asap ans send it to. But another question whne i call the prison they said on the recorder that one's approved i do need to make a appointment is this tru or lies or is just for the first time cause on another forum i read that they are usy 24/7 and is hard to get a appointment thus this work like this> could you please let me know? how this work on the visitiation i mean to get there and what happens how should i do it or whta is there parkeing for visitors or what? please let me know everything sorry for the pain but like i said i'm first timer and i don't know anything.

if there are no appts needed for reception, are we guaranteed a visit? im approved but if im not even sure that i will see him, i dont want to drive all the way up there and then get turned down.

Should be no problem as long as you get there relatively early - like by 9am or so. It says you can check in all the way up to 2pm, but morning arrivals are guaranteed to have full visits.

Well I just got off the phone with "Records" at High Desert and I was informed that my husband was tranfered down to Kern Valley today. I just wanted to introduce myself and kind of get the basic questions out of the way. We've been in this for a while but each facility is different. Any information would be appreciated. For starters how long does orientation normally last here? How long will he be without his personal belongings and what is the mail lay over like here? Anyways, I received a letter from my dad recently(that was pretty fast) and he said he got there on Jan 28 and he was moved to a dormitory. Does that mean he's in reception still? Just wondering. He said his bunk was a decent and nice guy . Will he be moved again? Don;t really know the process yes as I am still reading on it. He said there is no phone so maybe thats a clue that he's still in reception?

Oh also I tried to look up his name online at the inmate information and they did not have his records?!?! I would like to deposit money into his account, but not sure how I can. Please help...

Yes, he is in reception and while he's there (3 or 4 months) he will not be able to call. You can visit after you are approved to do so. He must first send you a SIGNED visiting application. You then fill it out and return it to the visiting department. Once you are approved, he will be notified. Visit are one hour behind glass (just like at County).

You need his CDC# to put money on his books. If it isn't on his return address, you can get that by calling 916.445.6713. You will need his date of birth. They will then give you his CDC#. Once he's in the system, you should be able to use JPay to put money on his books.

You need to send him writing supplies. You can send 25 sheets of paper, 20 blank envelopes, and 20 stamps PER MAILING (you can send as many of these as you wish). You can also send him paperback books, but they must come directly from a bookstore or like Amazon.com or Barnes and Noble. Paperback only - though used books are fine.

I will call them first thing tomorrow morning! I think they took away whatever he had before going to delano, cause i remember him buying a bunch of stamps . . . I'm sure he was in a hurry to send the forms, and totally forgot that i asked him to make sure he signs them . . .

He probably remembered later that he'd forgotten and may have already sent more. If you send him a plain (no glitter or pop-ups, etc) greeting card, he will get this faster usually because there is less to read by the staff. I'd send one off asking him to send more visiting forms and reminding him again to sign them.

When you send him any supplies, it's always a good idea to write an inventory on the back of the envelope. "25 sheets of paper & 20 envelopes inside." Just tends to keep the mailrooms honest. :D

I only send stamps in greeting cards and I staple the book of stamps to the card. Write his name and CDC# on the back of the book of stamps. Mark inside the card and on the back of the envelop, "20 stamps enclosed."

The inmate locator # is busy all the time, the one time it ringed out it had a msg that they are closed and i should call between regular business hours (it was 11 am!!!). I also faxed an inquiry, no answer yet. mmmm, this is sooooo frustrating . . . and I assume without the CDC # I can't call the Records, they won't be able to find him . . . He can mail letters and he can have visits, however you need to send him writing supplies (25 sheets of paper, 20 envelopes, 20 stamps per mailing) and he has to send you a SIGNED (he must sign it first) visitor application (one for each person who wants to visit). You can send him as many writing supply packets as you want. Mail usually takes a minute to get going, btw.

It takes approximately 30 days to get your approval to visit, so get him to send you that form ASAP.

The easiest and fastest way to get money on his books is online through JPay. You can find them at www.jpay.com

Yes. They can go to commissary each month if they have money on their books. They can buy snacks, writing supplies, toiletries, etc.

It varies somewhat from County to County, but usually within about 30 days.

mine was in los angeles county till 2/12/08 and still had $ on his books; so they will transfer it to state within 30 days? the cashier lady just told me "don't worry we sent it after him" (but didn't even ask for the inmate # or anything)

Yes, it usually doesn't take the full 30 days though. But it will get to him and he will then be able to buy supplies or whatever at Canteen once each month.

Anniko - no he does not need to buy clothing. The prison supplies them with the jumpsuits or scrubs they are to wear and gives them underwear, socks, shoes, etc.

bambam - some prisons do issue reciepts to the inmates when they receive money. I'm not sure if NKSP does this, however. I usually send in a card since those get to inmates the quickest, and let my hubby know how much I put on JPay. He's at KVSP though and they DO issue receipts there in about 2 to 3 days of receipt of the money.

Yes, he is in reception to be classified as to what level he is and where he will be sent for mainline. Once he sees his counselor he will have a better idea of what to expect.

His counselor will give him his release date when he sees him/her. The time starts from when he was arrested. Every day he spends in custody counts. If it's his first offense and non-violent, he'll probably get 50% time, so on a 2 year sentence he will need to serve a year and every day he has been incarcerated counts. :D

oh no this is his second offense it was non violent but his first was violent.. though i know it was a violation of probation... =( does that mean his time wont be cut and he's going to do the 2 full years:(

No, worse case is 85% and remember all the time he has done is counting toward that.

bsbrwneydgrl - Usually you have to reapply for visiting approval once an inmate leaves state custody. You can call NKSP visiting and ask if you are still approved. Their number is 661.725.3833

I have a question about NKSP visitation. How long does it take to be approved? I sent in my form for visitation 2 moths ago and neither one of us has had a response. Where should I have sent the form baack to? To him or the visting department? He sent me another form yesterday and now I'm not sure who to send it to. I called but they direct me to the visiting department and it says to leave a message, but of course they don't return my calls. Also he is in reception how long does it take for him to get out of there? His counselor says that he will be moved to either Lancaster or Chino. He has been moved to another part of reception though he is in A yard gym. I'm really anxious to hear and talk to him 2 months is way too long for me!!!

I know for a fact that they do. HOWEVER - it's not like in OC or in LA county where they house all SO's together with other SO's. They sometimes call SNY's "drop out yards" since when the ones in GP get tired of the politics - or in over their heads, they "drop out" to an SNY. They also Good news is - his time SHOULD go by nice and easy. Bad news is... same rules apply in the sny as in gp - dont think they wont give him a good shake downif they find out - but really - unless he says anything (which he wontcuz I'm sure he knows) he's pretty safe.

If he's on C yard at KVSP he won't be messed with unless he starts something. The SO's on C yard pretty much stick to themselves and are often housed together. Not always, but they tend to cell up together.

Caedma is correct - he will be much safer on an SNY even though the vast majority on SNY are not SO's. Most are gang dropouts, druggies who couldn't pay debts on GP mailine and had to PC up, lifers who are just DONE with the line politics, etc. C yard at KVSP is a relatively calm yard with not many issues. They are seldom locked down and when they are it's for days not months. They NEVER lose visits even during a lockdown.

Yes, he'll be at NKSP for approximately 3-4 months. While there he cannot call, but once you are approved you can visit.

i was wondering if it's ok to send a letter on paper that has a design..like it looks like normal white lined paper only that instead of it being white it's the colors of the rainbow.. i'd like to know cause i though it would be cute to get some paper like that so at least the colors can probably cheer my love up instead of that boring white paper? :confused:

I use stationary all the time and I even send colored lined paper and stationary sheets in to my hubby for his supplies. I've never had a problem. This is at KVSP, but I also used stationary when he was at HDSP and DVI and Corcoran (though this was years ago).

Not sure where to post this but need advice on the current wedding proceedure at KVSP,,,,I am English and live in the U.K and my partner is in KVSP he is Californian.
What I would like to know is has anyone else British gotten married to an American in KVSP? And if so what I.D did they accept from you etc..and did the process take any longer because of the English/American thing?
I am going out in July for three weeks and I wonder if I can get it all sorted by then?
My partner is in orientation right now..as soon as thats done he will get his marriage pack.

I'm assuming you mean Kern Valley and not North Kern. At KVSP he will be in Orientation for about 7-10 days. During that time he can't call, but as soon as he hit mainline he'll be able to use the phone.

There is no car line on Fridays for visiting. You just arrive at about 7:30am and drive right in. Visiting is never crowded on Fridays.

On Sat and Sun, the car line is just past the prison and on the left. There's no way you could miss it. Cars start lining up at about 5am, but you really don't need to get there until 6am or so.

He'll be in Orientation for 7-10 days. During that time he cannot call. If he has writing supplies though, he should be able to write, but it depends on how long it takes staff to give him his property.

If he's already been there for a week, you should hear from him in the next week or so.

Usually they can call every couple of days - it really depends on his building staff though and what his privilege group is. You should get a call from him soon though - as long as he's not on a yard that is currently locked down. They can't make calls during lockdowns. Both C and D yards currently have lockdowns, just FYI.

Hi All~
After months of stressing he finally caught the bus to NKSP. He told me that this is where he would most likely go coming from Pitchess. So, I have been reading all the post in this forum. This is his first time to Jail and Prison and he is 44. This move to NKSP is one step closer to coming home. He was sentenced to 16 mo at halftime...145 days county credit...and waited 27 days after sentencing to catch the bus. So I am guessing he will be home around Halloween. I live in Santa Clarita ...so as soon as I get a signed application and get approved I will be looking to carpool.

Yep, looks like he should be home around Halloween. Hope his stay at NKSP is uneventful and that you are approved to visit quickly!!
