hi my husband is getting transferred on Tuesday. I saw him yesterday but all he said is that they told him he is going to Susanville. So which one would he go to High Desert or CCC? He is a level 1 and going for firecamp. He did his reception in Delano. Also I was told he would be in orientation for 2 weeks so can i still visit him for the full day? I am planning on going out there in two weeks. Is it really strict up there? Anyone have info on flights up there from riverside/la area? They will be contact visits right? Can we take food to him? Is there a chance he can be transferred back down South since he is from Southern Cali? Sorry about all the questions but i am new to this and need all the info i can get. Also when he sees his counselor up there could he change his release date?

Hey....welcome. Well it looks like he will be in CCC. My fiance is in high desert state prison, so i really don't know too much about CCC. No you won't be able to bring him food for visits, they have vending machines. About him coming back down here cause he's from southern cali.....don't know. My fiance is from here, southern cali, but they transferred him all the way up there, he's been there since last year. I think in this forum there is a handbook and it will give you visiting guidelines for CCC and HDSP. Was he in county? I don't know if you will have to turn in a visiting form. I fly from ontario airport to reno....susanville is about an hour away from reno.

he was in county for 1 month but then he was transferred to Delano state for reception. Hey I was looking on the internet for the flight prices and they are like $240 is that how much they are? Any info on how you do it can you please let me know. You can PM me if you like. I would be leaving from Ontario airport as well. So how do I do it. I am so excited to see him for the first time without any glass between us!:D

Oh and i have already been approved for like 7 months so from what i am told it will still be good for visiting up in susanville.

If you fly southwest they often have special deals with 14 day advance purchase that are between 29 - 69 each way.

CCC okay to visit at. Staff has been courteous in my experience.

Hello, I too am new to this. First my son went to Delano from Riverside County Jail. Now they have him in Susanville (which feels like a million miles away). We were going to drive and visit him in Delano, but I think Susanville is too far to drive.
I wish they wouldn't send the guys from Southern California so far up North, I feel like it is important for them to remain connected with their love ones.

Wafflelady i know how you feel!!! i'm here in the san bernardino area and his family too, but my fiance got transferred all the way to high desert state prison in susanville.....it is far. It took us 12 hours driving, so from now on, i'm flying!!

it took you 12 hours to get to Susanville? Did you take the 5? I found a faster way to get up there....take the 395 all the way up there and it takes about 8 hrs and a half. You coming from San Bernardino, right?

I am curious....how much are the flights up there? I think I want to start flying!

Yeah we took the 395....i went with his grandparents. We left around 7:20 in the morning......stopped for breakfast around 11 and arrived at susanville around 7 pm. I fly through southwest...if you reserve at least 14 days in advance the tickets are cheaper....any other airline is like over $115......go to southwestairlines.com

My son is at CCC Susanville. He is level one and trying for fire fighters camp. You do have contact visits. I have not been there yet as we live in Southern Orange Co. and will wait till next month and the weather is better. We plan to fly , probably Southwestern. There is a bus or van that will pick you up at the airport and take you to Susanville. I don't know too much about that as yet but I am sure some of the others here can give you that info. You can not send anything except stamps. They can have a quarterly package from an online vender. He will give you the info on that. You can send a postal money order made out to him. It must have all his information on it including his housing and CDC #. I just put his whole address on it. I believe he can have 3 books sent by an online vendor. You do have to wait until he is mainlined for phone calls and packages. It is a long process for fire camp. They first, must pass a physical and physical fitness test. Then they start FFT(fire fighting training) and must pass that. Finally they are accepted for camp. Mine got there in Dec. and is still waiting for his physical. He said it is a nice place for a prison. Feel free to PM me if I can help in any way.

Thanks for all your guys help. My husband was due to leave yesterday to Susanville from Delano so I am really hoping that he will call soon!! I can't wait to go out and see him! You know I called Southwest airlines and the round trip from Ontario to Reno is $246!!!!!!!:eek: The lady said that february and march are busy months so i guess that makes it more expensive? I did try to get them for a month in advance and thats the price they gave me. So Iif anyone finds a cheaper flight please let me know. Also my husband was already in reception at delano for 7MONTHS!!!! So does he still have to be in reception at Suanville? From my understanding he gets contact visits as soon as he gets there? Anyone with info please let me know

Call the Visiting office to confirm that he's eligible for contact visits. He may have to sit out a week or two of "orientation" before contact visits are allowed, so best to be sure before you book flights and make reservations.

What do I need to ask? Sorry if i sound dumb but I new to all this!! :p

We're all new to this at some point and we're all learning as we go, so no need to feel there are any dumb questions... give the visiting officer his name and CDC# and ask if he is eligible for contact visits or if that comes after orientation... while you have them on the phone, it can't hurt to also confirm that your approval followed him there like it is supposed to do.

Okay thanks for the info. I am so excited to finally see him! I really hope it is a contact visit because I was seeing him for 8 months total behind a glass:( One month in county and @ Delano. Also, is there a chance he might be sent back down to Southern Cali?
