Eva, I wish I had the answer to this one. As you know, activity on the forum is lighter on the weekends as many people are visiting at the facilities. Is he going from the bus stop to the halfway house. It would be great if you could meet him there even to give him the things he will need such as clothes for going to work and toiletries. He will be given a short pass from the halfway house to go somewhere like walmart for those items and then will only be allowed to leave to locate a job until he has worked a full 40 hour week. Then he can get passes to go home, first for 12 hours, then 24, then 48. He will not be able to go out to restaurants etc until his halfway house time is over. If you can take him out during that three hours I know it would mean a lot to him.
Hope you get your answers soon.

I don't know if it's too late to respond to this, but concerning not being able to go out until his halfway house time is done....that's not true. After he becomes eligible for passes, he can take rec passes, whether on home passes or just from the halfway house. And, those rec passes can be to restaurants.

The rules at the halfway house where I was assigned for 6 months would not allow residents to go anywhere that could not be confirmed. For example: I could go to Barnes & Noble bookstore because I could be paged there. However, I could not go to the public library which was within walking distance. I could not go to a gym to work out because I could not be paged there. The BOP wants to be able to put their finger on you within 5 minutes.
Once while at work the halfway house could not get to me in that time frame (and people from the BOP were at the halfway house). They allowed me to get a cell phone after that(with a letter from my employer stating that I needed it.

Hi there I was just released from Fed prison so I can be of help. he will be given a certain amount of time to get to the halfway house. The farther he must travel, the longer the amount of time. My situation was that I was pretty close, so I was given only about 3 hours to get to my 1/2way house. You could probably squeak in a quick meal, but be careful to not be late. Trust me this would be bad. He will be allowed to leave the halfway house for weekend passes, so dont worry he wont be stuck there the whole time. I read some of the other replies and I am sorry you were told different. I am writing this to you so you are better informed than I. I am now home and on supervised release. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. take care and enjoy that special day. He wont sleep the night before he is released. No one ever does. God bless
