I think I might be able to help you. It might take me a little while to get back to you, but I do have some resources on Cherokee weddings. An official with the Cherokee nation can perform the weddings, but you might have to be a registered nation member with your card in order for them to officiate.

In the old times, the wedding involved clan mothers and the chief, blankets, etc. I'm not sure this would be allowed in a prison. I think prisons pretty much have their standard procedure they follow in performing what amounts to a civil wedding ceremony in front of a justice of the peace or chaplain, but you might be able to get them to use your own written vows and in that case you'd need to research what the traditional vows might be for the Cherokee ceremony. There are some online sources, but I don't know that they're all that authentic. You might try a website called Cherokee Proud (I think that's the name----I'll see if I can find it again). It's a very informative website made by a Vann family descendant that seems to have good information. I'll get the url for you if I can find it again. The bookmark was on my old laptop and I let my daughter borrow that one when I got this new laptop a couple days ago.

Thank you we are not doing it while he is in we are doing it after he gets home. I found one medicine man that would do it but he is in SE TX and we arent wanting to go that far to have it done and besides he will be on parole at the time of the wedding.

Congratulations on your engagement and I hope you'll share pictures here when you do have the wedding. There are people who perform weddings who will perform them to your specifications even though they may not be Cherokee. You could set it up so that you have your ceremony in the same manner that the Cherokees did it, having the blankets and having your mother or other family relative and his female relatives also stand in for the clan mothers.

I have a beautiful Native American Wedding Prayer that I found online a while back. It does not say to which nation it belongs, but it is very beautiful. If Shane & I ever make it there, we are going to have it read at our wedding.

American Indian Wedding Prayer

Now you will feel no rain,
For each of you will be shelter to the other.

Now you will feel no cold,
For each of you will be warmth to the other.

Now you will feel no more loneliness,
For each of you will be a constant companion to the other.

Now you are two bodies,
But there is only one life ahead of you.

Go now to your dwelling place.
