View Full Version : CDC Budget - Look who the criminal is now!
RD'sWife 05-31-2002, 01:31 AM Hello All!
I'm new to this. What a great idea! I was wondering if anyone out there has any info on how the budget problems in CA are going to effect the CDC. I understand that Davis just gave the guards a raise. I even saw a flyer in the gate house for the guards to sign up to receive extra pay for showing good physical fitness. I don't understand how our education and health care budgets are being cut, but the CCPOA is getting away with "murder"! The general population and legislature in the State of California cannot be that stupid!
I realize that this is an election year, but this is ridiculus! :hmm:
soraya 05-31-2002, 02:45 AM I totally agree with you. I cannot understand how they can cut in education and put extra money in prisons. The US has the most people in prison. Maybe if they put more effort and money in education, they would be able to reduce that number!! But I guess they can't make enough money out of the education departement huh?
CARLAxoxoxTODD 05-31-2002, 04:09 PM This website should provide the answers to your question:
Analysis of the 2001-02 Budget Bill - CA CDC (http://www.lao.ca.gov/analysis_2001/cap_outlay/co_19_5240.htm)
Veronica 05-31-2002, 10:36 PM Governor "Red" Davis has always been overly tough on inmates. He will not let up on any prison issues. We have to vote him out next election!
CARLAxoxoxTODD 05-31-2002, 10:38 PM He has already vetoed any proposed amendments to the 3 Strike bill.
Veronica 06-03-2002, 10:19 PM In my opinion, he is a butt head.
And, yes that's the technical term!
CARLAxoxoxTODD 06-03-2002, 10:23 PM Well, we may be in worst trouble if Dick Riordan runs :(
RD'sWife 06-03-2002, 11:34 PM Dick Riordan lost in the primary. Bill Simon is running against Gray Davis. I really was just wondering what kind-of cost cuts, if any, were going to effect the CDC. They seem to be getting away with alot when we are going to pay through education, healthcare and taxes.
B-Ray 06-04-2002, 03:43 AM I don't know what will happen there. But the lastest is, Davis is going to cut spending to the farmers and open up the selling of farm land to developers too make up for it. (lifting government controls)
I guess paying HIS debt is more important then feeding the country and world aid??????
CARLAxoxoxTODD 06-04-2002, 08:26 AM Hell, he's gotta bail himself out of all the shady deals he made somehow when we had the rolling blackouts!
RD'sWife 06-04-2002, 11:53 PM I graduated from high school ten years ago and we always had plenty of books. Now, my son has to share books with other students while the CDC Officers get a pay raise. Maybe, Governor Davis wants to create more inmates (job security) for the CDC by cutting education and healthcare, including mental facilities. This man is a piece of work!
B-Ray 06-05-2002, 02:50 AM The only think that concerns Davis right now is "MONEY"! In fact it's an obsession!
Veronica 06-05-2002, 11:31 PM He even looks like a slimeball. Gov. Davis is a very shady character. Does anyone here listen to what Micheal Savage has to say about him? I've caught his program a couple of times and laughed my bleep off when he started yelling things about him and calling him Governor "Red" Davis. So who would you all pick as a good candidate for Ca. Gov?
B-Ray 06-06-2002, 04:27 PM Personally, I would rather give an unknown (Bill Simon) a shot, then Davis another one!
Davis is now running TV ad's saying how good he's been for the State.
RD'sWife 06-07-2002, 12:05 AM I know, I've seen these ads. Davis is pathetic. I read an article that spoke of how the Republicans are going to fight Davis on raising the taxes and building a new prison. It stated that there is a law on the books forbidding the legislature from extending the budget negotiations past June 30. This could really hurt Davis. Unfortunately, he's really popular with the general population of California. Has anyone else heard any news about how this budget and election are going to effect the CDC? (Our loved-ones in particular)
Veronica 06-11-2002, 10:28 PM No, and it sucks if that happens.
No one I know likes Davis very much. Almost everyone I know will vote him out of office.
B-Ray 06-11-2002, 10:34 PM Davis is now showing his "true" side with the dirty campaign ads, hitting the air waves from the get-go.
They do fit his personality, mode of operation!!
RD'sWife 06-12-2002, 12:40 AM It really is a shame! I can't understand why the general population of CA is even listening to a word this man says. Maybe as the election draws closer, the people will become more aware. But, for now, Davis just keeps herding his sheep toward the wolf pack and they keep following. He will stop at nothing to become President. Yikes!!!
KConnor56 06-12-2002, 08:55 AM There isn't alot anyone can do to CDC to lower cost in any real way with out affecting the prison guards & davis isn't going to do that. His last proposal was to close down the CCFs (whose guards dont belong to the union), & build a new prison in Delano (whose guards will belong to the union). It also was stopped when it was proved building the new prison wouldn't actually save money but cost money. He's been stopped so far, but hes not giving up yet. These CCFs are good places (relativly speaking), & it would be a shame to close them.-----Ken
RD'sWife 06-13-2002, 12:58 AM I know that Davis won't willingly agree to any cuts that will effect the CCPOA in any way, but I understand that Polanco has insighted an investigation into the CCPOA pay raise issue and the Delano thing has been pretty much nixed by the legislature. I also read an article that stated the Republicans were not going to agree to any tax hikes without cutting many other State services than have been proposed by Davis, including the prison system. Also, apparently the budget has to be completed by June 30 due to a law that prevents the State from dragging it on. My question is, what does all of this mean for my husband? Is RD going to be brown-bagging breakfast, lunch, and dinner with nasty bologna and stale bread?
B-Ray 06-13-2002, 01:22 AM I afraid we won't know until the budget is passed in what remains or how things will operate.
38special 06-13-2002, 02:05 AM All participants in discussion:
Let's think about two interesting thoughts. 1. A better paying job hires / entices better employees. 2. When a job is yours, do you deserve a raise? Just wondering????..........................38 Special........:)..............
Budwoman 06-13-2002, 04:47 PM 38 SPECIAL....
WHERE DOES THE BUDGET CUT COME FROM? FROM THE MEDICINE USED TO CARE FOR INMATES? FROM THEIR CLOTHING BUDGET? OR FROM THE SALARIES AND NUMBER OF JOBS AT THE D.O.C.? FROM THE FOOD THEY ARE ALLOWED TO EAT OR RATHER WHAT THEY HAVE OF IT?
SEEMS THAT ANY STATE WOULD BE BETTER OFF TO INSURE THERE ARE NOT SO MANY INMATES TO TAKE CARE OF RATHER THAN GIVE PAY INCREASES TO GUARDS AND DOC EMPLOYEES.. HUH????
DONNA
B-Ray 06-13-2002, 06:12 PM #1 you forgot the word "qualified", and in that, needs to be rewritten.
#2 time in grade, auto raise. That's like giving a military person a strip "just because", they are there. But that's the way Union thinking goes, isn't it? Same with moving up the ladder, it really doesn't matter if they can handle the job, does it?
It might be interesting to compare, police officers to prison guards in what it take to get a raise and move up the ladder. Both are dealing with the same type of people for the most part.
RD'sWife 06-13-2002, 11:38 PM My thoughts exactly! My biggest fear is that my husband will suffer in some way like lack of medical care, while the, oh so hard working, guards walk in with their 'igloos' full of food for 8-10 hours of FOXSportsNet that my taxes pay for.
When Governor Davis approved the 25% salary increase that allows a CDC officer on the job for 7 years to make $74,000 per year and 90% of their salary upon retirement at the age of 50, he said he was doing it for "the people who work the toughest beat in the State"! Now, I'm not saying that all of these inmates are easy to deal with. And I wouldn't touch any of them (except my husband, of course!) with a ten foot pole. But, is Davis nuts??? What about the LAPD (ok, bad example - but still a hard job) who get shot at for driving down the wrong street. Or the CHP who have no idea what lunatic they are pulling over. "toughest beat in the State"??!! This man is truly off his rocker! He'd better not cut mental health services back too much because he may need it someday soon.
Veronica 06-14-2002, 05:25 PM 38 Special-
#1, better paying jobs/enticements.
I think every worker in whatever job, not just prison guard deserves those "perks". I now based upon my merit and knowledge, I get a raise every year, automatically. Guards should not expect raises with out doing anything for them. I was a guard in a previous life.
#2, a raise just because the job is yours?
Am I understanding that correctly? NO! Like I said before, prove yourself, you get a raise. It's the same way with respect, trust and responsibility.

soraya 06-17-2002, 07:51 AM I agree with Veronica 100%
loosielucy 06-20-2002, 09:17 AM I agree it seems just about anyone would be better than Davis...........you can bet I'm gonna be front and center at the next election.........to get him out.........
RD'sWife 06-20-2002, 11:46 PM Remember how we said that about Wilson? Then, Davis gave us hope. I voted for him myself. He's ten times more cold hearted than Wilson! I don't trust any of them now! Maybe we'll get lucky with the next one...
Budwoman 06-21-2002, 01:06 PM Yes Veronica how right you are..
That is the only way our society can work. Earn, what you get..... Don't expect a raise just for senoirity purposes... Give something to the job and earn the raise... Don't expect a raise to be given to you just because you are there.... Put an extra effort in changing something and makeing it better.
If we all do this, then our would as a whole will be a better place to live...
Love Ya
Donna
RD'sWife 07-07-2002, 12:24 AM Well, June 30 has come and gone. Has anyone heard about the California Budget and how it is going to effect the CDC? :)
freedom anjel 08-05-2002, 12:38 AM Yes, CDC is getting a 37% pay raise and a bunch of other perks. The guards union also gave a large $250K contribution to Gray Davis campaign fund right after he signed the papers giving them their raise. Imagine that!! I encourage everyone to write to the newspapers when you see articles about the budget and Gray Davis. I certainly do! There is an alternative to Gray Davis and Simon. In addition to other candidates mentioned for Gov., not sure if
all are aware, but Matt Gray is running as a write
in candidate for Governor. Below is his website which includes
his platform and stand with regards to victimless crimes and the 3 Strikes Law. Those of us who visit up North at Salinas valley State Prison are very aware of Matt, as I'm sure many of you are. He is a great advocate of eliminating/revising the law and a great friend of FACTS.

We need to make our vote count, especiially when it involves our loved ones rotting away in prison for life terms for non-violent, non-serious three strike felonies. In many cases, for misdemeanors they just decided to make felonies (wobblers)!!
