I can't get any good information on Utah's Death Row. Their website is horrible. Does anyone know if the DR inmates are allowed to make phone calls? Also, if you are of the opposite sex & not a relative, can you visit alone or do you have to be accompanied by one of their relatives? I know what unit he's on but can't figure out if he can have contact visits or not.

I would think your best bet would be to call the facility and ask if he can have contact visits and what their policy is on if you can go alone or if you have to be accompanied by a family member. Sorry I know it's not much help but it's sometimes the best way to find out. Be sure to let us know in case someone else needs the information.
Good luck and hang in there.

Utah has a horrible visiting policy. I couldn't believe this so I actually called there and found that it is true: An inmate may not have visits from more than one woman. If a woman is married she can't visit an inmate. The visits are for one or two hours per week. When i expressed surprise, the officer asked, Well, what could you possibly talk about for more than an hour or two? Does this person have friends or what? I found it like feudal times or something, and so unbelievabley sexist.

No offense intended, but it sounds as if there is some Mormon influence involved. More than one person has strongly suggested that Mormon beliefs have a strong influence on every aspect of Utah's death penalty policy.

if he's in uintah 1 then he can have contact visits frid, saturd, and sunday! for only 1 and a half hours. yes i agree that the visiting here sucks. EVERYTHING is run by the relgion!!! even to the point that just about everything closes on sunday! oooiiigg! and the application processes for visiting is a real good time and takes even longer. good luck

Thanks for the info! When you look at the priviledge matrix in Utah's website it appears the most people can only have barrier visits. So there really are contact visits for Death Row inmates?!

i am thinking, have you written him and asked him. as far as i know only uintah 2 and uintah 4 are unable to have contact visits. because of a violent behavior. my guy assaulted a co so he is unable to get contact visits. yeah i know he should have never done that and i have told him so many times. for some reason though he can not get us approved to go and see him.
you guy should know for himself whether or not he gets contact visits.

I could never afford to fly all the way out there to see him, I was just curious. Thanks for all the info though!
