View Full Version : What are your hobbies?
Ruddsgrl1 02-02-2006, 04:12 AM I personally LOVE to write stories and I have a few ideas right now but I am unsure which one to put into fruition. I love to read too and go to movies. So tell me fellow PTO members, what are your hobbies? Or what do you do to pass time when loved one is away?
Wendy aka Ruddsgrl1
Chris' Gal 02-02-2006, 11:11 AM I love to scrapbook, take pictures, write Chris letters, dance...I still miss him terrible, but these things help me pass time.
skychickFL 02-02-2006, 02:31 PM I had more time for hobbies when he was home! Now I work a lot, trying to keep his business alive and keeping my more than full time job at the same time. However, when I do have a few minutes for myself, I like to do Yoga and write fiction. Does going out with my girlfriends count as a hobby? ;)
4ever2gether 02-02-2006, 02:53 PM Scrapbooking, primitive/vintage arts & crafts, hiking, writing, drawing, painting, spending time with my little girl, and I'd like to find more time to fit in reading! I do NOT have enough hours in a day, but yet I want these days to go by faster than they are (just until he's home) . . ironic, isn't it! LOL.

DaveMoff 12-22-2006, 01:44 AM If you want to write stories, spend some time at the keyboard and WRITE them! All of them! Polish them as well as you can and see what you have when your done. You may love it. You may hate it. But you'll feel better for having written it all down. Few human beings on earth are as truly free as the writer at his/her keyboard with no responsibility but to write honestly.
Remember that even if, when you complete your first effort, you decide you have written a bad story, you have still done more than someone who has not bothered to write one down at all. And every story is a lesson to its author. A lesson which just might make the next one better.
Try it--what do you have to lose?
schatz 12-22-2006, 01:40 PM good advice!!
some of my hobbies include hiking, swimming, reading, watch a good dramatic movie (yes i am somewhat of a drama queen), traveling, meet with my friends and have coffee, surf the net, gardening and planting things
mrspoo 12-24-2006, 07:12 PM I like arts and crafts. Mostly anything by hand. Painting, rug latching, and especially crochet!
I like to do blankets, and have done quite a few king size blankets. I also enjoy making baby hats and blankets and saques (baby outfits).
roknows14424 01-05-2007, 08:01 PM I love reading...usually have a book wherever I go or am in search of something to read if I don't have a book. I also sew with some of my creations being very fancy dog bandanas of my own designs (I used to be a professional groomer and every dog left the shop had a bow or bandana), I collect cookbooks and I love photography.
TheGeneralsWife 01-10-2007, 05:45 PM I love to scrapbook, write, cook, take pictures and I reaaly am trying to teach myself how to quilt and sew better. I like to artsy type things that allow me to see an end result.

Bookworm1 10-19-2007, 03:09 PM I enjoyed hearing about everyone's varied interests and hobbies. :) Some of mine include current events, politics, feminism, prisoner's rights, activism, reading(I like psychogology, self-help, bigoraphies, true crime, mysteries etc) movies(I am a big horror film buff) an eclectic range of music(music from the sixties and seventies is my favorite), watching crime drama's like "Criminal Minds" and "Law and Order: SVU", coffee houses, browsing bookstores, letter writing, board games, surfing the internet, animals, travel(I love long road trips!). Scrap booking sounds like an interesting hobby, but I am not very artsy or crafty:shrug: My boyfriend and I are both into body art. I have five tattoos, and I am already planning my next one! They are very addictive! I also collect greeting cards. I have more than one could ever send out in two lifetimes! LOL

armyswife 10-20-2007, 12:50 PM bookworm- It's amazing how much me have in common. I love SVU and am also somewhat feminist. Also love browsing bookstores.
I hate to say that my hobby has to be one of the most shallow. Shopping. I know it's a stereotype that all women love to shop but I am borderline addicted. I keep my bills paid but instead of saving money I prefer to spend it. I'm trying to go back to the Bahamas in the spring and look in my checkbook mad because I could have already had the trip paid for if I would have stayed away from stores. Circuit city is my favorite. Then pier 1, then bath and body works, and of course walmart. I love target for their clearance merchandise. I could go on and on, but I have to go. I am on my way to Circuit City, LOL to buy my nephew a birthday present.
Take care.
BabygirlNGary 10-20-2007, 01:25 PM I love reading all kinds of books, swimming, taking walks, listening to music, making blankets, movies and shows I like, surfing the net.
Bookworm1 10-20-2007, 04:09 PM armyswife:
Nice to encouter a fellow feminist! :) It seems we do have quite a bit in common. I also like to shop, but I don't like shopping for clothes or shoes. I LOVE going across the border for shopping trips, and Bath and Body Works is one of my favorite stores! We don't have one here in Windsor unfortunately. :(
I was just there earlier in the week, and I bought pumpkin pie scented body lotion. Smells amazing! And I like Target too. And of course I could LIVE in Barnes and Nobels or Borders. I just picked up a book called "Visiting Life: Women Doing Time on the Outside" which I can't wait to delve into. :)
And I am also much better at spending money than saving it. I am working on saving up for another trip down South to go and see my honey next year. Hopefully I can do it! I miss him like crazy, and I was just down there in April!
"Law and Order: SVU is one of my all time favorite shows! Who is your favorite character? Mine is Detective Olivia Benson. I think we need more strong, independent female role models on television, that young girls and women can look up to. She is tough, can hold her own, and commands respect.

howiewonderstud 01-05-2008, 11:44 PM hobbies...
At some point in the future I want to publish a book of poetry- so i spend alot of time writing and rewriting words...
Also i work on my artwork-
either Abstract paintings (I do 3 foot x4 foot cnavasses in black & white)
or I work on Altered Books
lately though I am working on ATC's for trading with other artists-
(ATC is short for Artist Trading Card- which is a 2.5x3 inch card you create than trade)
also working on a series of ATC's for my Guy in prison, based on prison ideas-
keeps me out of trouble anyways...
DaveMoff 01-05-2008, 11:58 PM Most intriguing....would you keep us updated on everything? I'm not familiar with ATCs and would like to learn more about them.
howiewonderstud 01-06-2008, 09:30 PM ATC's are little 2.5" x 3" cards you make & embellish by hand.
ATC's are for trade not sale and most artists sign the back of them...
Different artists use different mediums- i use alot of Altered Book pages for my backgrounds and pick out interesting words, paint and collage on the little cards and trade them.
Usually for mine I will do a set of 5 or 6, and 3 are for trading, 1 goes to prison for my Guy cause he loves my art, and one I keep for future references...
here are some websites to check out if your interested..
http://www.atcards.com/
atcards is free to join, but its more of a forum than a website.
http://www.illustratedatcs.com/
to join their forum you must ahve a gallery to show
BUT they have an awesome gallery you can look at with 100's of ATC's
http://www.cedarseed.com/air/atc.html
this is a site with lots of links to other stuff- but this page in particular give great info about ATC's
also a fabulous wesite with tons of links
http://www.art-e-zine.co.uk/newstuff.html
art-e-zine offers artists with links to their own sites, plus great how-to's for most stuff-
I ahve to say ArtEZine is my favorite site- they rock!
howiewonderstud 01-06-2008, 11:17 PM ummmm okay- so will attempt to attach some of my ATC's that am trading this coming week for a Hearts ATC's swap... I suck at scanning and attaching images- so bare with me...:o
starlitemoon11 01-07-2008, 08:56 PM I enjoy scrapbooking, painting, writing letters and stories, poetry, yoga, and making my own bath and beauty products. It's kinda dorky, but it's alot of fun.:)

Brisbane 01-09-2008, 06:04 PM reading and knitting
howiewonderstud 01-10-2008, 12:30 PM about my paintings...to give you some idea about my work...
Black & White One took about 3 months and a 30 hour crunch to get it to look that way.. At one point I did a series of these ones, all were sold but this one, and this one I gave to Elizabeth- a Friend who loved it..
the Coloured one is one I did recently and sent to my Bwoi inside- its watercolour on paper with Indian Ink- it's not what I had hoped for-
but
differently- the colour thing is new for me... so it kind of works- but wish I hadn't sent it, cuz I would work more on it...
