View Full Version : All things Pleasant Valley State Prison!
luckyme1526 01-27-2006, 11:53 PM Hi Everyone,
Well, I thought that it would be cool to have an "All things PVSP" sticky so that we can gather up all of the information that we can for others to view and of course for ourselves. Barb said that she would make it a sticky. Here it is Barb, thanks!
Rebeca
Cheetoes1 01-28-2006, 05:03 PM Cool....I'll be hanging out!! :D
KellyA.
qwerty 01-29-2006, 02:25 AM Hooray! Thanks Barb and Rebeca! I'm down :).
silverleaves786 01-29-2006, 03:13 AM I have a pp there, so good :)
Cheetoes1 01-29-2006, 06:13 PM I more ?'s !! LOL :D
How is the dress code? Will they let you in with any hooded jacket? Also, do they stress when you wear 2 shirts? I have a few low cut shirts that I wear with a colored wife beater under.
KellyA.
luckyme1526 01-30-2006, 04:32 AM Hi Kelly,
The dress code is not as strict at PVSP as it is in other prisons, but they don't let you wear hooded jackets or sweatshirts, bummer huh? It gets so cold over there. I've worn two shirts in such as you are describing and I haven't ever had a problem. So I think it's OK, about the hoods, I heard someone say that if it's raining they'll let you wear a hat but I've never tried it and I've never seen anybody in there with hats on. Maybe somebody else that knows about that will come along and tell us both! :p
Rebeca

qwerty 01-30-2006, 05:38 PM Cheetoes, did you go? How was it?
They have a visiting info sheet that says you can also wear a hood if it's raining...
I've worn the 2 tops too, but one time the inside one was slightly low-cut, I mean slightly, and they wrote on my paper I was NOT allowed to unbutton my sweater the whole visit LOL !!! I got really freaked out cause when I bent over to grab a soda the buttons all just popped open! Then sitting right in front of me was this well-endowed lady with a super low v-neck and massive cleavage exposed, I mean we're talking Grand Canyon!!!!! I'm like wtf?? Whatever... they're still mellower than most places :).
Cheetoes1 01-30-2006, 10:21 PM I go up to visit for the first time this coming weekend.
I am totally bummed about the "No Hood" thing. I thought that was long gone with our days at CMC!! All my "CMC Clothes" are too small!! LOL
Hey, is there a PO Box to send Money Orders or do you just send it to the housing #?
My husband still hasn't received any mail or his package :(
KellyA.
luckyme1526 01-31-2006, 04:07 AM Way too funny Qwerty! LOL
Rebeca

luckyme1526 01-31-2006, 04:10 AM Cheetoes,
When I send money orders I enclose them in the letter and I mention it in that letter to him and on the money order I just write his name and number. But I always send them to the regular p.o. box.
Qwerty, thanks for the heads up that we can use hoods when it's raining...

silverleaves786 02-01-2006, 04:28 AM Has anyone used jPay to an inmate at PVSP? I wanted to send stamp money to a pen pal but it comes up that he is in Ventura county CA, not state prison CA. The money is in the 'pending' then gets cancelled. After that jPay have returned it twice.
Cheetoes1 02-01-2006, 09:30 PM I have only sent out US postal money orders. I have no clue how to send money over seas to a Ca prison. :(
KellyA
luckyme1526 02-03-2006, 06:38 AM I really can be of no help to you on that one, sorry. Hopefully someone else that comes along will help you.
Rebeca
luckyme1526 02-04-2006, 01:10 AM Anyone going to visit this weekend? I am :D I'm just worried about the stupid fog! I didn't have a problem the last time so I hope that I have the same luck. I got appointments for 9:30 this time, better than nothing right? Anyway, have fun everyone who is going and we might bump in to eachother!
Rebeca
qwerty 02-05-2006, 12:46 PM I went yesterday.... yeah the fog was bad. Any of you who drive on the I-5 please be super careful.
The visiting room was not crowded because there have been a lot of transfers lately.
But I am sad because he got a job, which is great news, but he works Saturdays and I work Sundays, so I guess I won't be going for a while... He was thinking I could just switch my schedule around but it doesn't work that way. :(
It's always something...
Cheetoes1 02-05-2006, 09:28 PM I went for the first time this weeked and visited both days.
Wow, I thought I died and went to heaven!!! LOL :D :D
Kelly
qwerty 02-06-2006, 02:52 AM See, Cheetoes, I told ya it was *different* from Lancaster... glad you had a good visit! :D:D:D
luckyme1526 02-06-2006, 03:53 AM Hey girls!
I'm so sorry Qwerty that you won't be able to visit for a while, I know how important our visits are to all of us. I won't be going for a while either, so we're in the same boat, I'm going back in two weeks, but after that it will probably be over a month! =(
I went to visit this weekend and I hit some pretty bad fog, but it wasn't as bad as it was a month ago, at least not for me. Hopefully I will have the same luck if not better in two weeks. I will be taking my lil two year old with me so I will be extra careful this time. I hope that all that visit next weekend have a good time.
Cheetoes, I'm glad that you had a nice first visit, I hope that all your visit are as pleasant as this first one.
Rebeca
Cheetoes1 02-06-2006, 11:17 PM The whole weekend job and not being able to visit sucks. No matter where my husband is at, he ends up with a job on the weekend.
I still haven't decided if I am going to drive up every 2 weeks or just once a month. The gas is too expensive!! :(
But I still can't believe how great the visiting is there!! Each day it only took me 5 minutes to get processed!! And the visiting room is totally laid back!! You can go outside anytime, play football!! It's so cool!! ;D
Kelly
Kelly
qwerty 02-08-2006, 01:40 AM Yeah, Cheetoes, when I first hit the visiting room there, it didn't even feel much like a prison, more like a big ol' school cafeteria... I like it! I hope he never moves, but I hear they may be moving all level 4's out eventually. :(
Now I know most of the COs in our viso room, and we usually share a few laughs.
luckyme1526 02-08-2006, 07:18 PM Qwerty,
How is Lancaster, I've heard nothing but horrible things about that place, but I'm still wondering what happens that makes it such a bad place. Besides being a prison of course. Thanks for any input.
Rebeca
lost in love 02-10-2006, 01:13 AM My man is also there, but I'm not allowed to visit. Although I'm happy for you all. Can anyone please help me out? I wanted to know if co-defendents are allowed to get married. I haven't had any luck in the prison wedding forum. PLEASE
Cheetoes1 02-10-2006, 10:46 PM If you are not allowed to visit, you cannot get married at the prison. You have to be an approved visitor.
KellyA.
luckyme1526 02-10-2006, 10:56 PM I agree with Cheetoes, you can't get married if you can't visit. I hope that your situation resolves soon and that you can visit and or marry your loved one.
Rebeca
lost in love 02-11-2006, 12:24 AM Thanks all the same for taking the time to clue me in. The reason I was so desperately asking is because he is currently in county close by dealing with a previous case. He's been here 3 short weeks and could be back at PVSP within a couple more. (I'll try to keep it short.) I got to see him after 17 months apart & he got to meet our daughter,( she's almost 13 months) & he proposed to me on our second visit. It's all happening so fast. Maybe we'll have time to get married before they take him away, I'm certainly going to try. Thanks again for the reply. What would I do without PTO!!!!:) :(
luckyme1526 02-11-2006, 06:26 AM Hi,
I'm so sorry that you're going through this. I hope that you are able to find a way to marry your sweety real soon! ((fingers-crossed))
Rebeca
Cheetoes1 02-11-2006, 11:18 PM I have heard theere are ways to get married while they're in County. But, the rules might be different since he is a State Inmate.
I would try calling the Chaplin @ the County Facility and she what they have to say about it.
KellyA.
Cheetoes1 02-13-2006, 12:01 AM Hello Everyone :D
I mite be going up this Sunday to visit. I don't have a apointment. So, do they call you into processing by the # on your pass or do you just wait in the line ( where everyone is standing) until 10am?
Thanks,
Kelly
luckyme1526 02-14-2006, 02:01 AM Hi Kelly,
They call you by the number in your pass. After they're finished with calling the appointments, they start calling the pass numbers in groups of ten. But you still wait in the same line.
Rebeca
qwerty 02-14-2006, 03:37 AM Also, Kelly, lately they've been calling numbers *before* 10 am -- if they get thru the appointments first...
Arrrgh I am so frustrated because he works on Saturdays now and he just assumed I could get Sundays off -- which I can't.... rrrrrrrrrgggghhhh. He called today saying when are you visiting, can you get Sundays off? I'm like.... you meathead...
luckyme1526 02-14-2006, 06:04 PM Hi Qwerty,
Yeah I've heard that they've been calling appt. early too. A friend of mine went to visit last weekend and she had 9:45 appointments and got in at 9:15 both days! :)
That sucks that you can't visit Qwerty, it's like these guys just don't get it sometimes. What mine does is that he assumes that I'll have money every weekend to visit him, it doesn't work that way. I mean sure, he does help me a lot but still it is very expensive for me because I have to pay for hotel and all, and the drive is real hard, like 5 1/2 hours straight! :(
I guess that we take this because we love em huh? :D
Rebeca

Cheetoes1 02-15-2006, 10:59 PM Thanks for all the info. I called yesterday (it took 2 hours 50 minutes!!) and got an appointment for the following Saturday. So, I am just going to visit then. Though, I am going to have forget calling the appointment line!! I am wasting all my cell phone minutes trying to get threw!! :(
Kelly
qwerty 02-16-2006, 12:04 AM I hear you about the appt. line -- I have a rant back here in the Cali forum somewhere!
I live fairly close by, so for us it's just easier for me to show up at noon and have our 2 hour visit...
Dang I am missing that boy :(. He called today and I missed his call too! Grrr.
luckyme1526 02-16-2006, 02:36 AM That sucks that you missed his call Qwerty.
I hate the appointment line too, but actually and surprisingly I always get through, or the friend that I carpool with gets through for the both of us so it's not so bad. I do remember one time that I tried the three whole days and I couldn't get through at all. For the 25th and 26th I managed to get appointments for 8:45 =) so that will be cool to see him.
qwerty 02-16-2006, 02:58 AM Thanks Lucky... I've also had better luck recently that I used to. And now we can't visit GGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRR!
Sorry just unloading... partly I was needing some "space" from him -- and what do you know, now I miss him...
luv ya PV ladies! ;)
luckyme1526 02-17-2006, 12:58 AM partly I was needing some "space" from him -- and what do you know, now I miss him..
LOL, you're funny! :p
luckyme1526 02-18-2006, 04:36 AM Damn I've been checking the weather for Coalinga and it is COLD!! Poor guys, I wish that there was some way that I could send him something like an electric blanket or some warmer clothes or something. It just breaks my heart to see how cold the weather is over there. Gee I hope he doesn't get sicker, he already has valley fever :(
Rebeca
qwerty 02-20-2006, 03:42 AM Oh Rebeca, I hope he gets better soon.
When my guy first got there he got fever and chills for a few weeks it was nasty. Now we realize it must have been valley fever...
luckyme1526 02-20-2006, 04:16 AM Thanks Qwert, I hope he gets better soon too, luckily, he's almost completly better from the nasty valley fever. He has to take his meds for six months, the time will be up in April, but thank God he didn't get hospitalized! Thanks for the kind words.
Rebeca
pansy23 02-21-2006, 12:39 PM Hello everyone. My bf scott just got mainlined from Wasco State P to PVSP. I dont know anything about psvp. They sent him to E Yard in the Dorms. What are they like. I would just like some general information if anyone of you know anything about it. I also need the addresses to send him a money order and the main prison address so I can send him regular letters again. Thanks everyone!
Amber
Cheetoes1 02-21-2006, 09:52 PM You'll have to wait for the other girls to answer your questions. :( I am new to this prison and I had no idea that there was a "E" yard?
I do know each of the yards have their own PO Box # and you can send a MO there along with the regular mail.
KellyA.
luckyme1526 02-21-2006, 11:18 PM Hi there,
Welcome to PVSP! :)
I'm sorry that I don't have much info for E yard, but I'm pretty sure that I can answer a few other of your questions... First of all, to go visit...If you want to go into visit before 10:00 a.m. you need an appointment, the number to get an appointment is (559)935-3780, it's open from Monday to Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. But it's super hard to get through and you have to press redial all the way.
If you want to go without an appointment, I think that they start handing out passes at 8:00 a.m. but usually there are people waiting outside since like 4:00 a.m. or earlier. What some do is just show up at aroung 11 or 12 p.m. and just get a pass and walk in, but that's obviously up to you.
To send him letters, you can call the prison and ask them what the p.o. box number is for E yard, then you can write to him, all yards have a different p.o. box number. But you can send him MO's included in his letter and the guard checking the mail will pull it out before it gets to him, just be sure to included his CDC number on the MO.
Well I guess that's all that I can help you with for now, but I'm sure that someone that knows about E yard will come along soon to help you out, if you have anymore questions just ask!
Rebeca
P.S. I forgot to add that the prisons main number is (559)935-4900 Hope this helps a little.

luckyme1526 02-21-2006, 11:20 PM Is anybody going to visit this weekend? I want to go to visit at least for one day, but I'm affraid of how the weather is going to be, did anyone go this last weekend? If so, how was the drive? Thanks in advance!
Rebeca
pansy23 02-21-2006, 11:58 PM ok, how is PVSP on mail? Does it take along time for the inmate to get their mail or is it pretty quick??? Is it an ok prison or should i really be worried about him while he's in there? I know Scott can defend him self but if he does that it could get him more time! Is it a bad prison, not like any of them are peaches and cream but.... lol
luckyme1526 02-22-2006, 12:06 AM Hi,
Well I've only been to RJ Donovan and PVSP, but I've heard that there a lot worst prisons than PVSP. But my boyfriend says that compared to the rest where he's been in, it's ok. He says that he likes Calipatria better, but oh well, lol.
On mail, well sometimes they're slow and sometimes they're really slow! But I suppose that alla and all it's not too bad, sometimes it takes my bf about 10 days to get a letter and other times it takes him about 20 days!
I've never even heard of E yard being on lockdown, so I think that's a pretty easy going yard. I always thought that E yard was the minimum security yard, isn't it?
Rebeca

qwerty 02-22-2006, 01:04 AM Welcome Pansy!!!!
Hmmmmmmm.... I have never heard of E yard, you sure it exists???
It's true, mail has been really slow in the last couple of months... lotsa so-called staffing shortages, who knows.
lost in love 02-22-2006, 01:05 AM [quote=pansy23]ok, how is PVSP on mail? Does it take along time for the inmate to get their mail or is it pretty quick???
It takes about four days for my letters to reach my man, which is pretty quick compared to other places. I haven't heard any horror stories about what it's like there either, so I'm sure your loved one will be just fine. Let's think positive and positive things will happen.
luckyme1526 02-22-2006, 02:17 AM Damn girl!
You gotta share your secret, how does your man get your letters within four days? Mine gets them in anywhere from 10 to 14 days, 19 or 20 days when it's really slow.
Rebeca

TakinItDaybyDay 02-22-2006, 04:42 PM Is E Yard the one that is a leve 1 that is outside the fence? I can see it from D yard visiting.
His letters have been coming quickly to me (4 days), but mine take a couple days longer to get to him (6 days).
williswife 02-22-2006, 09:21 PM Have a question and since I am new to this site, I'm not sure where to ask. So I'll try here. My boyfriend is going to Pleasant Valley in the next few months. We are trying to get married before he leaves county jail again, but are not sure it will happen. Does anyone know how we could go about getting married while he is in Pleasant Valley?
TakinItDaybyDay 02-22-2006, 10:25 PM I just got married there on January 14th. Whatever questions you have, I would be happy to answer them, but how do you know he is going to PVSP?
Cheetoes1 02-22-2006, 11:01 PM Lucky,
I am going up this weekend. I read the weather report for Fresno/Central Valley and it didn't say anything about the fog ( atleast for the next few days). Though at night it's supposed to be in the 20's!! Yikes!!
KellyA.
williswife 02-22-2006, 11:11 PM I just got married there on January 14th. Whatever questions you have, I would be happy to answer them, but how do you know he is going to PVSP?
He was in NKSP and they told him he was going to PVSP, something about mainline? He then had to come back to county for a court date for a previous charge. We are assuming when he gets back to NKSP that they will send him to PVSP. Only an assumption though. Seems we never know anything for sure. How did you go about getting married? What steps did you have to take? Was it a long process? Long wait? Any info you can give me would be greatly appriciated. Thank you!
TakinItDaybyDay 02-23-2006, 01:08 AM 1. He has to tell his counselor about his intentions about getting married.
2. He gets the wedding packet from his counselor and sends it to you.
3. You send the marriage packet back to his counselor all signed, filled out (up to 5 outside guests), and notarized (about $10).
4. Call a Chaplin at the prison and tell him about your intentions and ask him to marry you.
5. Call the counselor to make sure he got the packet.
6. Call, call and call the counselor again to prompt him to sign and pass on the packet.
7. Make sure your your guy is trying to prompt the counselor too.
8. After the packet is signed by his counselor & supervisor, it goes to the Chaplin.
9. Talk to the Chaplin about dates, and he will tell you when to send the money orders (about $130).
10. The Chaplin gets the marriage packet.
11. You show up at 8:45am to get in on a visiting day, the day of your wedding.
12. You have a nice visit, and the Chaplin shows up whenever.
13. You meet and talk to the Chaplin.
14. You have the ceremony either inside the visiting room or outside.
15. You sign the marriage certificate.
16. The marriage certificate is mailed to you.
I think that's all the steps. It took us about 2 1/2 months. The Counselor did take his time doing his part and approving us and signing it. The Chaplin only took 2 weeks to get us married after he got the packet and money orders. He could have done it in 1 week. He is the Chaplin that can do it the fastest at the prison. It takes much longer for the other Chaplin probably because the other Chaplin is the Christian Chaplin, but I could never get him on the phone to save my life. He never even returned one of my calls.
I recommend the Chaplin on B yard. He was always there when we needed him even for personal problems. He can do the marriage quickly (which is always best cause you never know if your guy is going to be transferred). He is a Muslim Iman, and we are Christians, but he is one of the kindest most sincere people I have ever met. That reminds me, I do need to send him a Thank You card. Even when my husband needed personal counseling, the Chaplin would go see him the next day after I called to ask the Chaplin to see him. The Chaplin would even let my husband call me from his office.
If you have any more questions, please ask. I hope you guys can get married without any incidents getting in the way.
luckyme1526 02-23-2006, 03:01 AM Hi Kelly,
Well, I just checked the weather report and I also noticed that it says nothing about the fog, they had been having "frost warnings" all week! I'm glad that they don't have one for tonight, I guess that means that it's a little less cold.
I just hope that I don't run into any weather predicaments! :p Have a safe driver and an even better visit!
Thanks for the info...:)
Rebeca

luckyme1526 02-26-2006, 09:52 PM Hi,
I'm so sorry that your son is in this situation. I called the counselor once and told him it was an emergency and he did give the message. So maybe you can try that, sorry I don't have any better info...

qwerty 03-01-2006, 02:55 AM Yes, you can try calling and ask for his counselor... I'm sorry you had to deal with such awful worries... ((hugs))
Well, PV folks, I am going back for a visit!
We had this whole circus going about our days off -- it started with him working Saturdays and me working Sundays... last week, we both switched it up (without the other knowing) and so it ended up I was working Saturdays and he was working Sundays!! Arrrrgh!!!
Then his poor cellie called me and was running back and forth to the cell to get it all arranged. Well, we finally got it worked out for one weekend only, I'm back to Saturday off for 1 week and he has it off too. Whew!
So I can't wait!!!
Who knows what will happen after this, but at least we have our Saturday... :) They sure as !@#!! better not be on lockdown!!!
Cheetoes1 03-02-2006, 10:58 PM I received this from another group. Now I know why it's taking so long to get threw!!
:( :(
KellyA.
Hello all! Just wanted to let you know that Lt. Webster (the visiting lieutenant) made a point to call me Tuesday morning about the appointments. Bobbi (the woman who answers the appointment line) has noticed that when several people are calling trying to get an appointment for one person, they may all get through but no one calls the others to let them know they got through or to cancel the duplicated appointment. Bobbi said that all the appointment slots are full by Tuesday at 12 because of this problem.
In other words, say I ask my friend and my sister to call for me to help me get an appointment, and they both get through. That means I have two appointments scheduled. That also means that's at least one appointment that someone else could have had. That's really not fair to all the others who are trying to get through. It's a waste of time and appointment slots. Please let your other callers know you got an appointment right away! Or call Bobbi later and cancel the duplicated appointment. Please!
Cheetoes1 03-02-2006, 11:00 PM Qwerty,
I am glad you will be able to visit again :)
Kelly
lola222 03-04-2006, 01:38 AM im new to this thing.. i was just curious if i need to be approved to visit with someone... i have the form he sent me from tracy b4 he left can i use that one.. also does anyone know how long it usually takes to be approved? thanks.
qwerty 03-04-2006, 03:18 AM HEY EVERYBODY, WE HAVE OUR OWN PV FORUM NOW:yay: !!!
Thanks Cheetoes, I am visiting this Saturday! As in, today!!
Also thanks for the info... I keep wondering why the same people seem to get appts. every weekend.
I don't think it's quite fair people can call for each other, what about those of us who don't have a hundred friends there or who just want to keep their privacy? *sigh*
Welcome Lola... yes you need to be approved, i think they should send your form along to PV but you should call and check... when I applied it took a month but that was 3 years ago.
hartman 03-04-2006, 09:43 AM Hi Everyone,
Well, I thought that it would be cool to have an "All things PVSP" sticky so that we can gather up all of the information that we can for others to view and of course for ourselves. Barb said that she would make it a sticky. Here it is Barb, thanks!

Cheetoes1 03-04-2006, 06:26 PM It all depends on the prison. It can either take 4 weeks or up to 6 weeks to get approved.
