Can anyone add something helpful here?
This is very sad, I feel so badly, and am not sure how I can help this person.
I just found out today that my friend is deceased!!His parole hearing was this month!!Since I'm not family,is there any way that I can find out what happened??He never said anything about being sick,he was so looking foward to starting a family of his own when he got out this summer,he's been in for 12 or 13 years-he was in great meadows-please could you direct me in the right direction as to what happened!!I have been waiting for his letter,it didn't come.
Dcampb 01-13-2006, 06:16 PM I would suggest that you call the prison ( during regular hours) and ask to speak with the Chaplain.
rywill 01-13-2006, 07:16 PM His death notice should be a matter of public record. She may request information from vital stastics in the county of his death, or check with the local newspaper to see if the notice appeared in the paper. I am not sure if they do anything differently for inmates, etc.
I am so sorry for her loss.
Zapatista 01-13-2006, 07:24 PM This is horrible, but a private message should be treated as private, in my opinion.
Brent's Mom 01-13-2006, 07:31 PM I would see if I could get ahold of a a family member and if not than get ahold of corernor in that district and explain that you were or she was good friends and he may give her a family members phone number! God Bless her and I hope someone helps her!
Manzanita 01-13-2006, 08:00 PM I did not mention the members name so h er privacy was kept, thanks to all of you, I will let her know ;)
Ravenslove 01-13-2006, 08:09 PM Mrs G I think you handled it perfectly you got her information and didn't betray anything. Your a good friend.
I am sorry for your friends loss. But the advice is good she should be able to find it through public record.
TheBoysGirl 01-18-2006, 12:53 PM I actually have a question in reference to this topic. My fiance was brought to a civilian hospital last week and I wasn't notified until his counselor saw him back in SHU a few days later. Now my first question is as his emergency contact shouldn't I have been notified sooner and what happens to an inmate that dies and has no emergency contact or family?

Even if you were legally his wife, unless he has a notirized HIPPA Release form (naming you) in his file, they will not notify you about his medical situation. Since the HIPPA laws went into effect the "emergency contact" is a joke!
TheBoysGirl 01-20-2006, 09:20 AM Wow, thanks for the info. Can I send him a HIPAA form to have signed and notarized and put in his file?

Ken'sWife 03-24-2006, 01:11 PM My first husband died while in Elmira. I was notified when things were "looking" bad by the facility. When he was taken to an outside hospital I was notified before they transported him. I had made sure that I had spoken to the counselor many times and that in his file it was stated that I was to be notified and my husband had always made sure that he signed releases or whatever was needed for it to happen.
nashaye 05-09-2006, 05:09 PM good luck on your search, this is very sad, where you closae to the family if so they should be able to help especially the person he had to notify incase of emergency
