Could someone please tell me how to make out the money order to send to an inmate at Kilby. Do I make it out to him? When he was in the county I had to make it out to the jail treasurer and then put his name on the top. I needed to send it tomorrow and he hasn't been able to call because they have him stayin in the chapel since it is so crowded.

Thank You,
Laura

Laura, for Alabama prisons you just need to make the "To" part out as so:

<Name> <AIS number>
Address

Whatever you do don't forget to put his AIS number right after his name, without the AIS number they are liable to send it back to you.

Be sure and put your name and address on the "From" part too. You are on his approved list of people to send money in for him, right? 'cos most Alabama facilities they have to have an approved list.

I am on his approved list, but thankyou so much I haven't got use to this AIS # stuff yet. Just to make sure do I have to put the address of Kilby directly on the money order?

Thanks,
Laura

Laura, I don't think it's really a requirement that you put his mailing address at Kilby on the MO, but I always put Brian's name, AIS number and complete mailing address on all of his, just to make sure. I'd do it just to be on the safe side. It's *probably* OK with just name and AIS number but like I said, just to be on the safe side I'd do it anyway.

Believe me - eventually you'll come to think of his AIS number as part of his last name!! I think when Brian gets out it'll take me some getting used to NOT writing his AIS number after his last name every time! :D

P.S. Another thing to remember - their AIS number has to go on EVERYTHING that gets sent in to them. Like I said, eventually you'll think of the AIS number as part of his last name! :)

Lysbeth,
Thank you so much. I read your profile and seen where your guy is at Limestone. Obviously he went to Kilby first. Do you know how long it usually takes before they are transferred? I have another question too, but could I pm you?

Thanks,
Laura

Hi Laura, of course, you can PM me anytime! However I don't really have the answer for you about Kilby... Brian and I were friends before he was locked up (the romance came later) but we were estranged for about ten years after he got locked up so I wasn't in contact with him when he was going thru that initial stuff. By the time we got back in touch he was at Limestone and had already been thru four or five other prisons in the system by then...

However - our lovely and fabulous Alabama forum moderator Danielle would probably know the answer to anything about Kilby!!! You can PM her or ask her here in the Ala. forum too... she probably won't be back on PTO 'til morning but she'll probably have the answers to any Kilby-related questions!!

That's right, I remember reading that now (about him going to Limestone)! It's really not too bad a place, for prison anyway. Like I said Brian's been thru four or five within the Alabama system now and Limestone is the best of the lot. Visitation's real laid back and easygoing there too and the staff is mostly very nice and friendly. Limestone I can answer all kinds of questions about! Do PM Danielle about your Kilby questions, I know she'll be happy to help.

We'll talk more definitely... I just got back in town and am sort of whirlwind reading/answering here tonight... you'll have to keep me posted about Joe, Brian's a real good guy and everyone seems to like him a lot and knows the ropes there real well, so I'll be sure to have him watching for Joe to arrive and say hey.

Hang in there, it'll all be less confusing and WILL get better eventually, trust me - just stay strong and hang in there!! :)

Laura, when my husband was sent to Kilby in March, he was only there less than 2 weeks! He stayed in the chapel part for about 4 days and there are no phones there for them to use. He found out during processing that they would be sending him to a work release, they at first told him Decatur, but he ended up going to Hamilton WR. If they have already told him he was going to Limestone, i would wait about sending his money, because he probably wont get it until he gets there. I sent some to my husband and they moved him and he had to wait nearly a month before it ever caught up with him!! That might not happen, but since they are trying to process them as quickly as possible there is that chance it would happen. Just wanted to share with you my experience, and good luck to you!!

Thank you so much. Joe called today and they have moved him out of the chappel and he got his money that was forwarded to him from the county so we are good as far as money is concerned so far. He has only been at kilby for 12 days and they sent a guy that came in with him from the same county to ventrus this morning so I'm expecting it any time.

you can do like the folks said above, but be advised he will not get it. the people that check the mail will take it and the amount will be put on the books.he'll never see the money order. and be damn sure he checks that the money has been credited to his account.

My husband was at Kilby from March 14, 2002 until July 14, 2002 - but he was there for a parole revocation hearing, so it took longer. He got his results from the parole board in early June and was moved out about a month later.

He's been at Limestone before, but that was before we met, so I don't really know anything about it. My husband was at JO Davis in minimum out custody before he was changed to community custody and transferred to Loxley. It took about 3 months.

Learn that AIS number! LOL I don't even know my husband's social security number, but I can tell ya his AIS number!! :)
