Suki pat0912 01-28-2006, 09:31 PM I was in Bryan for 5 months. Most of the correction officers are nice. I would suggest laying low at least until you get the feel of it. Stay away from the loud mouths and trouble makers, they are pretty easy to spot. About your time. You will get good time but I am not really sure how many days a year you get. I did not get any good time because I only had 5 months, good time comes at a year and a day. I still have some friends that I met there that are still there, if you want their names let me know and I will pm you. Patsy SusanT 01-29-2006, 08:43 AM Suki, you will get through this fine. One thing that surprised me is that although I knew what to expect, had made written & phone contact with another inmate that was there, and had years to mentally prepare, I "fell apart" for a short time once inside and just could not control my feelings of helplessness nor my crying. With all my maturity, research, etc., I felt like a five year old that had been left at kindergarten with the fear that my mother was never going to return. I know I've already given you this information but: 1) get your finances in order and consider giving someone a financial power of attorney so they can file your taxes, pay your bills, etc. By doing this, the IRS, your creditors, etc., need never know about your Federal vacation. Otherwise, this information can get on your credit report. 2) Make a list of all the people you want to contact via mail and/or phone and mail the list to yourself on the way along with some photos you can tape to the inside of your locker. 3) Have a medical & dental checkup and take copies of your medical records with you. Have a back-up copy where someone can send them to you if you need it. 4) Expect to be strip searched (visual only) and realize that the clothing and bedding they give you at R&D is the worst they have and you will have it only temporarily. 5) Let people at home know that the clothing you wear in will be mailed home and that it may be several days before you can call. 6) Your first few days, you will be dusting the unit until you find your own job or get enrolled in a class. You will also get called out to Psychology, Medical, etc. Try to get to the libary and check out a book. You will spend a lot of time in waiting rooms. Employees of the BOP have training which really emphasizes the us/them mentality. Even though you may have more education, experience, and class than many of the people you encounter, they will treat you as an "inmate". Don't expect anything different. sienna8174 02-23-2006, 05:50 PM I just received my phone call form the Marshall's office about 2 hours ago. I have been assigned to FPC Bryan. I have to report in 2 weeks, on Friday, 3-10 by 2pm. I'm scared and in shock. I've been trying to prepare myself, but it's hard to wrap my head around how much my life is about to change. I guess I can never really prepare myself. |
