 My best friends ex boyfriend dropped a weight on his thumb this weekend during a workout. The bone was actually sticking out of his thumb, and the nurse who examined him told him it was broken in 3 different places. But they refused to take him to the hospital, told him he would have to wait until Monday or Tuesday to see the doctor there. Why? They didnt feel he needed a doctor right away.He keeps bleeding through the bandages, and is in alot of pain. And what if he gets an infection. This is when I can see how our loved ones get treated as second class citizens.Anyone else had this problem?

I would have family members keep calling the case worker. My friend had a severe knee injury from playing basketball and needed surgery and they wouldnt send him and he has family flood the case workers with tons of phone calls everyday until something was done about it.

 Do they not realize he could lose function of that digit!? Not to mention it is a freeway for infection that could affect not only the injured area but could become systemic.:blah:

They could care less if loved ones lose a digit or anything else. If you continue to have problems, call SeceretaryMary Ann Saar's office 410-339-5005 or email msaar@dpscs.state.md.us (msaar@dpscs.state.md.us) her, she's over everyone including the commisioner, and one under the governor, and file your complaint.
I always go to the top. They don't need the publicity now. And then there's Greg Garland of The Baltimore Sun. Just make sure you have all your facts and documents to prove what you.

The reason that he can be denied medical attention and left to suffer is because NO ONE will fight for a prisoners rights on the outside. Im dealing with a similar situation and I honestly believe my daughters life is in jeopary because of being given the wrong drugs and denied attention and it has resulted in 2 hospitlizations outside of MCIW. I think they are going to kill her. Im not going to take it anymore.Silence has not accomplished anything, so it is time to speak up.

My son is in Hagerstown prison and medical refused him. I called the warden and of course they put me through medical and I told them ,,that he is their responsiblity and if they didnt treat him I would call the governor . The next day he was down in medical and has a follow-up appointment,,so now I have to wait to see if the finish what they started. You have to call the case manager,,warden medical and keep doing it because they dont care about them guys. They have to have someone on the outside to fight for their rights. Good Luck

Then You can be glad he is there instead of where my daughter is...MCIW Jessup. She is 28 and has been taken to regular hospital to the critical care unit twice because they refused to let her go to infirmary with chest pains and fainting. She now because of their negligence and giving her meds that that were wrong for her condition, has a serious heart condition. She has almost died twice at their hands. Im fighting with everything I have just to get a cardiologist to manage her care. The warden in this prison does not respond to complaints. It took a week to get my child a toothbrush when she returned to the infirmary after the last hospital stay. Mind you she had her own things, but they mysteriously disappeared for 11 days. They are responsible for my child having to live for the rest of her life with a damaged heart of serious nature. She has been in their so-called infirmary for 12 days now. She has been infused with saline until her eyes were red and burning and all she could taste was salt. It took her 15 hours to get a tylenol for severe head pain brought about by the fluid volumn. This institution is a place of torture and abuse. The locked cell in the infirmary has no nurse call button and she is not on heart monitors. Seldom is she checked on. There was no to little heat in the infirmary all winter. Women laid with their coats on and there were no blankets available. No Im not talking about a third world country, Im talking about the good ole USA. The state of Md needs to be held accountable for their lack of medical attention to the inmates and all the other violations that occur. People in lock down DO NOT get out 1 hr of every 24 as they are suppose. and the list goes on..................
