I recieved a call from my wife tonight (who is a guest at FPC BRYAN) and she said they received the official notification today. Effective 23 March 2006 there will be no more tobacco products sold at FPC Bryan and effective 01 APR 2006 smoking will be banned for all Inmates and visitors.

I guess it's just a matter of time before all the facilities ban smoking. I was also in Bryan, but have been gone since Nov 2004. I went to boot camp, so I had to quit smoking anyway, but it kind of sucks for those who do smoke. My husband is in Oakdale FCI and they are no longer selling tobacco products as of 1/31, and smoking is prohibited after 4/1/06.

I think that all BOP facilities are going tobacco free this year. Sandstone has been smoke free for a while, and as of April 15 chew will be contraband. They do have cessation classes available.

Anyone knoe if fpc dublin is smoke free? God I hope not,this is hard enough without my smokes!!! renee

My Understanding is that ALL FEDERAL FACILITIES will be smoke free by 01 APR 2006. That is as far as "Guest" and visitors are concerned... The staff, however, will still be allowed to smokem if they gottem.

Is this on the BOP website somewhere? Staff should not be allowed to smoke either in my opinion. I've told my son to try and start cutting down on his smoking now so it won't be so hard on him as he will most likely be going to a camp sometime in March.
