View Full Version : CCA Prison Sayer Oklahoma Closing
MommaHen 06-21-2003, 12:21 AM CCA is closing the private prison in Sayer, Oklahoma on August 11, 2003 Still not sure what this will mean for us Okies but possibly good news sinc ethe overcrowding is already so bad here. Keep your fingers crossed it will be good news for us all.
KRIS_NC 06-21-2003, 04:59 PM A FRIEND OF MINE HAS HER HUSBAND IN THAT PRISON AND THEY THOUGHT THEY WOULD SEND HIM BACK TO WISCONSIN BUT THEY ARE SENDING HIM TO ANOTHER ONE IN OKIE...SHES NOT TOO THRILLED ABOUT IT EITHER
MommaHen 06-21-2003, 05:40 PM They can only send so many of the others to Diamond Back the other CCA prison here but from what is being said the majority of Okies in the CCA prisons are going to be sent to state facilities which are already major;y over crowded.
wannamae 06-21-2003, 08:29 PM I curious where you get your information?? But you aint got to tell it! LOL
So exactly, why is is closing? And what does CCA stand for?
MommaHen 06-21-2003, 08:47 PM Lawana it has been all over the news here and you can find articles at www.newsok.com you just have to search .
Where they are moving them is guard talk and as I said in the original post i am not sure if it will mean early releases or not but we can hope and pray.
According to the article I read last night it is based largely on money facters since this is a private prison. CCA is Corrections Corperation of America. these are the people that come in all over the US and build and run prisons and the states pay them x amount of dollars to house their inmates in that Prison.
wannamae 06-21-2003, 08:57 PM Ok I will check that site out. I just have not had time to really "sit down" and catch some tv news. Then when I do it is about missing Children and that is depressing.
Dont forget I am in Arkiville also.
OMG I just remembered I had applied to an online paper out of OKC. But havent had a chance to look through there.
Are they saying how many are prisoned there?
MommaHen 06-21-2003, 11:02 PM here is part of the article
Prison employees urge Sayre to readjust rates
2003-06-18
By Ron Jackson
The Oklahoman
SAYRE -- North Fork Correctional Facility employees let city council members know Tuesday night what effect the loss of the prison -- the city's largest employer -- will have on the community.
Video
Sherrie Hill and Larry Cox were among a handful of employees who spoke on behalf of their colleagues -- about 225 prison workers who received their pink slips last week when Corrections Corporation of America announced it was closing the prison Aug. 11.
Employees later learned the main factor behind the decision was conflicting contracts concerning prisoner telephone rates.
wannamae 06-21-2003, 11:19 PM Thank you.
Well now we all know that they do jack up those fees. Sorry butts! 225 people thats a whole town in Oklahoma! hehe
I wonder what those telephone contracts looked liked??
And how much money they will lose now. Is that prison a min level facitily?
Then they will have to let some of them out to the outside. I cant see them just transferring to another already crowded Prison.
Lawana
MommaHen 06-22-2003, 01:28 AM I am not sure which security level it was but no matter where they move them or the level it will be to an overcrowded prison we have no other kind here in Oklahoma LOL
bexandshs 06-22-2003, 09:37 AM Do those money problems also affect other CCA prisons? My fiancee is at DCF in Holdenville, and it is a CCA prison, and I don't want him getting transferred anywhere. We have gotten things taken care of to where he is comfortable and safe and I don't want him getting moved to some overcrowded non-private prison where we will have to start at square one with the gangs and rednecks and all of that stuff. Is CCA itself in trouble or is it just an isolated thing?
Just curious
wannamae 06-22-2003, 05:08 PM I really dont know. Mommahen can most likely answer your guestion. But I would guess if the company is the same?? Who knows.
My James is at OSP. Mommahen keeps up with most of the Oklahoma information. If she dont get back to this thread send her a private e-mail. Im she will will help with your question.
MommaHen 06-23-2003, 12:05 PM From what I have been able to find it is a problem exclusively with the contract the town of Sayre signed with AT&T and is right now effecting only that Prison but no one can know for sure if it will not come up with other Prisons in the future.
What gets me is the article Soft heart posted where it says that prison only housed Wisconsin inmates when in fact they have already moved over 600 Oklahoma inmates out of there. It may only house wisconsin inmtaes now but it did house inmates from here in Oklahoma too. The damn newspapers only want to print what they want us to know not what really happens.
mmm4ou 08-13-2003, 10:38 PM ATT was charging a $4.00 connect fee for each call and .39 cents a minute after. Wisconsin protested it and when they didnt reduce the rates they informed them that they would remove thier prisoners. The closing isnt for sure yet because Arizona is looking into shipping prisoners there. My sources are News nine out of OKC.
Kerah 11-03-2003, 09:20 AM My man was at North Fork in Sayre, and got moved to Diamond Back. He is from Wisconsin, and they are housed with inmates from Hawaii. However, there have been some of the Wisconsin boys being sent back to WI, so who knows what will happen! When Joshua was at North Fork, he couldn't even call me and I couldn't visit because I lived in Oklahoma. I'm sooooo glad he was moved!
MommaHen 11-03-2003, 11:12 AM They found another state to use therison other than WI and they have kept the prison open and the phone contract was renegociated.
