My boyfriend is in a federal prison camp in Pennsylvania (FPC McKean) and he has decided that after he recieves his GED, he wants to take some correspondence courses for college credits. I am so proud of him for wanting to better himself and not just sit on his hands and do nothing for the next five years but I have looked into the cost to do this and it is pretty expensive. If I could afford to pay for it Lord knows I would because I know he would do it for me. I have a hard enough time paying for books and fees attached to my own tuition which luckily I recieve financial aid for. I know that inmates are no longer able to recieve Pell grants but does anybody know of any other type grants or funding that are offered to inmates (particularly federal inmates). Any help is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.:)

To my knowledge there is nothing like that available anymore, it is a shame the public does not think inmates worthy of higher education, but that seems to be the way it is.

I know? How do they expected for them to come home and be responsible for providing for their families. They wont be able to find desent work because they dont have the necessary education for the higher paying jobs. Thanks anyway Atalie :)

i feel the same way.i been thinking lately that if it may be good to ask my fiancee to transfer up here.it is a possibility in for the future.especially if he cant learn anything to help him when he is released.i dont want his mind to go to waste by not engaging in education.if i knew how to apply for a new law for inmates i would cuz these men and women need have the right to continue learning jsut like they continue breathing!they dont have to have the best of education tools but damm, they deserve something.the only thing that separates us from the animals is our ability to comprehend communication.
