Hi there- I searched around the NY forum and this was as much as anyones reported on Albion. Apparently there hasn't been too many members that have had to deal with that facility. Best of luck to you... I can imagine you're very worried/uneasy about what the near future holds. Just hang in there!

My loved one was in Albion up until last Sept. I think I can answer some of your questions.

1. All of the phone #'s that she is going to call must be submitted ahead of time, and yes, they go through an approval. The collect (all are collect - thanks MCI) calls that she makes can only be made to these numbers. DO NOT get caught making forwarded calls or 3rd party calls. Your calling privillages will be suspended, at least.

2. The Parole board looks for how well they think you have been rehabillitated and how much of a threat you are to society.

3. Since you are going to be waiting at least 4 years before the first Parole hearing, you might be jumping the gun on this. Can't hurt to talk to a lawyer, but I wouldn't think about leaving a retainer with one yet.

4. Ask your loved one to send a list of what she would like from the commisary. I find it cheaper to buy most items on the outside and then mail them in. 2 packages of food wieghing a total of 35 lbs. per month. Everything must be hermidically sealed, and nothing with alchohol in ANY of the ingredients.
Any money you send, do it by money order. Personal checks take MUCH longer to clear (sometimes they don't post it until 2 weeks after).

5. You can visit at Bedford a week after they have been there. Call (914- 241-3100 ) before you go there. Visits on the weekends go by the First letter in your last name (A-L... M-Z) and the days alternate each weekend.

6. At both Bedford and Albion the 35 lbs is the weight for food. No canned items over 16oz.

7. Have her talk to her counselor about the programs. They may even be mandatory .

8. Make sure that her physical limitations are on her records. But this will also be a problem for her if she decides to go through a program ( ARSAC) that enables her to get early work release. Physical limitations will also keep her from going to a minimum security working facility (Camp Beacon)

Hope this answers some of your questions.
I live on Long Island also. If you need directions to Bedford, send me an e-mail at kerch00@hotmail.com

Good luck

Ok- I tried to put that pasted part in a quote box but it didn't work I guess! Starting from "My loved one was in Albion..." is the begining of what this member posted and it ends at the very bottom with "Good Luck". Haha oh boy I messed this one up.... you get the idea tho!

My friends mom was in A.C.F and she was entitled to family reunion program (trailor visits) My friend said that they are rather nice and clean also. Do you know for sure if you are going to Albion?? I am sure that for anyone who gets approved for the FRP will get instructions on how to go about it.
Good Luck!
