Can anyone tell me who my fiance needs to ask for the wedding packet? He keeps getting the run around and no one can seem to give him the answers on how to get the packet. Does he ask the counselor, who he never sees, or who? Any info, would be appreciated.

he gets the packet from the chaplain he is there every Thursday...they will give him the packet he fills out his part then sends it to you and you fill out your part. you need to fill it out send in a copy of your drivers license, SS card they also need your original birth certificate. as for him they need a copy of his CDC card and his original birth certificate. then you need to send a Money order for 68.00. The hardest part for us was getting his birth certificate…

I Think They Said It Takes Like 90 Days. But I'm Not To Sure That's Just What I Heard From Someone Else Who Probably Heard From Someone Else...

Ladies!! Thanks for all the info. My fiance met with the chaplain this week and finally got the marriage packet!!!! So after he fills it and sends it to me and I do what I have to do, what is the next step? Who contacts me? Is the counselor involved or just the chaplain.? Where do they do the ceremony? Do they let you spend any time together at all after, or is it like, You are now pronounced man and wife...back to the cell? How sad, huh? Any info is always appreciated!!!!

now you have to fill your part of the packet and get all the document together to send back to the chaplain then the chaplain forwards it to his counselor after that you get a date when everything is approved.. No you dont get no time after the wedding to spend with your new husband....I think that sucks!!!!

wow, that is going to be hard. Do you know who calls you to give the date? Is it the chaplain, or the couselor? Then, is the city hall in the town of Blythe by the hotels? Also, my fiance doesn't know his ring size..any suggestions on how he can figure it out...

Mil1945
02-06-2006, 02:03 PM
As For His Ring Size Have Him Measure It With A Small Piece Of String , Tape The String To His Letter So That You Get It.... Then You Take That To Where Your Getting The Rings And They'll Measure It And Tell You His Ring Size.... Ha..ha.. Look At Al The Stuff We Have To Go Threw To Get Info.. Hope That Helps...

thanks for that!! I would of never thought of that!! You are right, we go thru a lot out here too. It's hard loving someone in prison and no one has any idea how it is until they go thru it. The system doesn't make it any easier for the loved ones on the outside either. I do have to say that the c.o's at Ironwood are much nicer than the c.o's at Centinela. They at least, treat you with respect, at least they have always been decent to me. This website and everyone on it has been really helpful also.. I always have lots of questions, and this is the only place that I can depend on getting the right answers.. Thanks!!!

sO did you get your wedding date yet? I finally got our wedding packet, just waiting on him to get a copy of his CDC card to me. He thought it might be a problem getting it to me, but I told him to have a copy made and write "for wedding packet" on it. Hope he can get that for me soon. Did any of you ladies go to Ironwood this weekend? Feb. 25 & 26? If so, what to you think about them not giving numbers at the gate anymore?

First: ~ monet420 ~

CONGRATULATIONS!

And all my best wishes to you and your hubby! Be blessed!

Second:

My man and I want to marry a.s.a.p. - but all the paperwork has to be done first. Sigh! It will take quite a while because I'm not an US citizen and so we'll have to apply for visa etc. first... Does anyone of you know more about this? All help, advice and info will be gratefully appreciated!

Thanks,
Carol/united

HI United,
Id look into seeing if you need to get your visa first. Id call the prison and request to speak to the marriage person who handles the package and ask her about what requirements you need or if you need to get a visa first. I was married at Ironwood on 8/22/06. We returned the packet completely filled out on May 15 (thats when the prison received it certified mail). We heard nothing back until 7/31 when I was called and informed that we would be married on Aug, 22nd. The info in the packet was quite misleading. Marraiges are only performed on the 3rd tuesday of the month not the 2nd thursday(I had figured from the timeline in the packet we woild be married on Sept. 14). When the woman called she informed me that the lisence expired before Sept 18 and the 22nd was the ONLY date. It was a bit much to throw it together so fast (I live in Oregon) but we managed. I just received my marriage certificate in the mail (almost a month to the day after) and have forwarded it to the prison for our family visit to be scheduled. A yard was on lockdown but the prison allowed the ceremony to take place anyway. I guess it is considered a "priority" event, so don't stress when it comes time and your man is on lockdown, they will do it anyway. Good luck to all who go through this... it's not easy, the worst is having to leave shortly after the ceremony... before it's even begun to sink in.

I just sent the certificate out on Monday. My man is on C status, so it may be awhile before we get a date for a FV but from what I understand, because I'm from out of state, we will get a 5 day visit. I asked him if they provided wheelchair services out of there... LOL!
