Different prisons have different rules about free world glasses. However, many of the prisons do allow them. Check with the medical department to find out the rules in the prison you are interested in. Some have no restrictions, while others have a limit on the dollar amount and some do not allow metal frames or tinting. The inmates usually know what is allowed.

Have any of you had any experience with this? Wayne signed up to get his eyes checked - they took his glasses because of the wire frames. It'll be at least a year before he can get his eyes checked and he is severly near sighted. He thought if he had a copy of last prescription they might go ahead and make him a pair of glasses.

Danielle,
If Wayne could obtain a copy of his prescription or if you can get it from the last doctor that he saw, we could make him a pair of glasses using all plastic frames. I am not sure of the rules at the prison he is in. You would have to find out if they allow free world purchases of eyeglasses.

I've got the prescription - just got to talk to somebody at the prison or have Wayne to do it! If it's allowed, I will be in touch! Thanks!

Wayne should immediately file a grievance.
If nothing else he can say he needs glasses to see to do legal work....most prisons think twice when you mention legal.

Just my $.02 worth
Take care...jerry

Monica,
Are you saying they took his glasses and just left him without, with impaired vision? That just seems so barbaric! It never ceases to amaze me the extent of the inhumanity of our penal system.
May God have mercy...
