View Full Version : Eastern Max and Annex
maidenheart 03-06-2004, 08:33 AM I just heard from my sweetheart, he made it safely to Eastern Annex. He said he got on the bus at 7am and checked in at 12midnight, a very long day! He says he is looking forward to getting into the program there and it means he is that much closer to getting out! Does anyone have any info on Eastern annex, it is the medium security prison next to ulster. There doesn't seem to be much info available. http://img32.photobucket.com/albums/v96/Maidenheart/waiting.gif
haswtch 03-06-2004, 08:48 AM I have no direct experience, but have heard that the visits and conditions are lovely compared to some places
maidenheart 03-07-2004, 05:14 PM Thankyou Haswtch you were right. I went to visit him today, the place was much better than I expected. There are approximately 180 inmates so it is small compared to many. The guards treated both the vistors and the inmates with respect. I think this is a very good move for my boyfriend as compared to where he was. It is a wonderful feeling leaving with a smile instead of worrying each time.
haswtch 03-07-2004, 09:18 PM oooh I wish my guy were there, not only is it mellow, I live 20 minutes from it. I used to edit the newspaper in the nearby village of ellenville and got to know a few people that worked at Eastern and they seemed OK...this was before I knew anything about prison...I'm glad to hear it really IS ok! happy for the 2 of you.
faithfulwife 03-22-2004, 03:42 PM Does Eastern have trailor visits? What is the visiting room like?
maidenheart 03-22-2004, 08:04 PM Faithfulwife, yes they have trailer visits for married couples but at the moment they are revamping them so they aren't available. The visiting room is very small and the guards there are very respectful as long as no one crosses any boundaries with intimacy. We can sit beside them not just across from them. There isn't much in vending machines, and no change machines so bring change. I find the visit to go way too fast even though it is from 9-3. If you have any questions I will be glad to help if I can.
daWifey 03-22-2004, 09:14 PM In the summer months you can actually bring food in on the visit. They have grills there so you can bring food to cook on the grill as well. its a very nice place to visit.
maidenheart 03-23-2004, 05:57 AM dawifey, I heard about that but haven't experienced it yet. How do you know what kind of things to bring in, can you actually make salads, or is it just meat you are allowed to bring in? Yes I agree it is a very nice place to visit.
4MyBabyBoy 01-06-2005, 12:09 PM I'm already on the baby's visitor list, but my question is do you have to be to visit him?
He told me that I can bring someone with me and they don't have to be on his list, as long as they have ID and his info.
Is this true?
Also, on Monday I will be visiting him and this will be my first time there. How is the whole procedure from the time you get there til the time you get to the visiting room?
Any input I'd appreciate.
Thanks.
haswtch 01-06-2005, 02:24 PM yes, all you need (for an adult) is ID. I don't know the specifics about Eastern but have heard it's pretty mellow. Enjoy!

Manzanita 03-02-2005, 08:01 PM Anyone go to Eastern?
How far is it from NYC and do you know any vans that go there?
How is it?
Manzanita 03-02-2005, 08:09 PM how are the FRPs?

I believe it's about an hour 15-1/2 from NYC. Flamboyant, Jeff, Stan are the major vans that go there, according to my man.
The visits are nice, I think. Very laid back. during the week when i go, they're from 9a-3:30p.
Manzanita 03-04-2005, 06:33 AM you said 15 1/2 hours...or 5 1/2? I don't think it is 5 hours away, I think it is about 2hrs...
so you said Flamboyant? Jeff? Stan? do you have numbers for those I could add to the bus van section? THANKS! :)
thatwiz 03-04-2005, 12:29 PM It is laid back on the outside, but my man hated it in there. It was the worst place for him out of all the prisons he had been at. he ended up getting thrown in the hole for 9 months and was transferred out to Fishkill. He was happy to leave there.

i said an hour and 15-30 mins, not 5 hours.
i will find out the numbers and get back to ya.

Imo, i think it's the nicest facility in NY. I strongly wish that my man will stay there for the remainder of his time then go to any other facility. He feels the same. He does what he's supposed to do and has no problems.
Manzanita 03-05-2005, 09:47 AM thanks for posting all of this info 4mybabyboy!
Manzanita 03-05-2005, 09:55 AM Also, are you all talking about the MAX or MED part? How do you know which one they will go too? Were your loved ones offered this waiver to sign and go to this prison? Do they all sleep in double bunks?
4MyBabyBoy 03-05-2005, 12:44 PM Also, are you all talking about the MAX or MED part? How do you know which one they will go too? Were your loved ones offered this waiver to sign and go to this prison? Do they all sleep in double bunks?
My man is in MAX, i'm not sure about a waiver...i don't believe so but i will ask.
He has his own "cell", i would guess the whole prison is that way, but i ll ask about that too.
Manzanita 03-05-2005, 03:38 PM I am only asking because I heard frommy hubby that they sometimes approach guys to transfer there but they have to sign a waiver for a double bunk first. and funny but he says they call it Nappanoch, not Eastern. the name of the county. LOL
haswtch 03-05-2005, 04:00 PM Napanoch is the name of the hamlet, not the county
4MyBabyBoy 03-05-2005, 05:55 PM yeah, thats Ulster County....
stormierainn 03-06-2005, 11:18 AM the max is single cell. he was at green haven, he likes eastern much better.
Manzanita 03-06-2005, 11:25 AM so tell me, all the cells are single?
So I guess they were talking about the Med Annex part then.
thanks stormie.
who is in the Annex part of Eastern?
stormierainn 03-06-2005, 06:13 PM the anex is med. you see the guys walking around doing some jobs at the max.
Manzanita 03-07-2005, 06:40 AM Is anyone's loved one in Eastern Annex?

Manzanita 03-10-2005, 06:52 PM I moved this van info here :)
Manzanita 05-22-2005, 08:15 AM My husband thinks they might transfer him here, with only 10-12 mths left before he comes home? I guess to Eastern Annex....
Kelluval 06-21-2005, 07:05 PM My Husband was just transferred here and I need some suggestions on getting there. Can anyone help please!!???
Ken'sWife 06-21-2005, 09:01 PM Check out the New York forum and see what is listed there. Your husband should be able to find out what "free bus" would be available to you. There may be someone in your area that you can carpool with. Good luck!
Niightdrmr 06-21-2005, 10:08 PM Welcome to PTO I moved your thread into the NY state forum so you might be able to receive more help and answers....

Manzanita 06-22-2005, 05:59 AM Read the above things for informationon Eastern...Good Luck :)
Manzanita 07-25-2005, 07:20 PM is this a MAX A or MAX B?

Manzanita 07-25-2005, 09:05 PM Kelluval, what were you trying to post here?
stormierainn 07-26-2005, 01:29 PM i heard its mr. brown. i heard he is fair? if an inmate messes up or a c/o the will be hell to pay. only thing c/os have a union. anyone know about him?
stormie
Manzanita 07-26-2005, 05:30 PM i moved this here.
On my last visit with my honey he was telling me how he would like to ask to be transferred to Eastern Max. He says there is a smaller population with less drama. Also right now he is in a single bunk but he thinks soon he will be double bunked... he doesn't really like to be around people he doesn't know....(you'd think being in prison he'd be used to it but nope... he is a single bunk and he just stays by himself all the time except for prayer)
ANYWAY my question is IF they actually transferred him to Eastern would they let him do the rest of his time there until he could be moved to a medium ? If he got transferred here it would be such a nice thing for us because he would be much closer to me and I hear the visiting and FRP process aren't as hectic..
Does anyone have any info ? Opinions ? Advice? I am open to all....
PowandVonne 12-08-2005, 07:13 AM PBE,
I have heard a lot of good things about Eastern. I have a friend I went to high school with. He was just transferred there from Clinton. He said that it is a lot more laid back. They can move around alot more freely, and the CO's are a lot friendlier too. He also said inmate on inmate violence is rare there too..like once or twice a year compared to everyday some drama at Clinton. My husband said he is going to try to put in for a transfer to Eastern in May.
wow Vonne that is really good to hear. I wanted to tell him all this in a letter but I am afraid the COs will read it and do something so he can't apply for the transfer... Christmas eve can't get here soon enough so I can talk to him !!!!!!
angel1104 12-14-2005, 07:38 PM Hello everyone! My fiance just called me and asked me to find out information on a 6 month program called cd/dvp at eastern annex. He says that it has something to do with domestic violence. Anyone have any idea what he is talking about?
Thanks
Angel
TEEDEE20 01-16-2006, 03:34 PM My husband is thinking about transferring to a program Eastern C.F. called Domestic Violence/Chemical Dependency. If anybody has any info. on this program and/or info. on Eastern itself, can you please let me know.
Thanks
Tammy
4MyBabyBoy 01-16-2006, 05:44 PM i don't know anything about that program but my husband is in eastern max.
thatwiz 01-16-2006, 05:47 PM When my baby was in eastern, he hated it, especiually the program which seemed more like a brainwashing one. He ended up getting in trouble and was happy that the hole got him out of there. I mean, he had no drug problems so it was hard for him to relate to the people there and they had him second guessing himself as to if he's ever been violent or abusive to women. I have been with him 5 years and he's never so much as raised his voice to me. that was just our experience. that doesn't mean it won't work for you man. eastern is a very relaxed prison visit wise and I was even able to bring in food and they have grills where you can cook there. It might be worth it to him. just make sure he finds out what the program entails exactly.
Manzanita 01-16-2006, 06:29 PM moved here! :)
I advise he take them all and even volunteer...even if we think it is bull...it will count against him if he does not!
4MyBabyBoy 01-17-2006, 04:30 AM I agree Mrs. G...
also I believe eastern is one of the better facilities in NY...not just for visits.
TEEDEE20 01-17-2006, 09:58 AM Thanks for everybody's feedback, I think it's going to help us make the decision we need to make about him transferring. I think I'm gonna give the prison a call and find out the details about the program.
Have a great day everyone.
Manzanita 01-17-2006, 07:14 PM and YES, many inmates say Eastern is a good place to be out of the NYS facilities, my husband wanted to go there once ;)
big mc 01-22-2006, 03:57 PM Is anyone's loved one in Eastern Annex?
Hi my sister
i have my boyfriend at Eastern. and it's not bad at all. and i live in Brooklyn. it cost me $50 dollars to get up there. and they pick you up in front your house. and i like that very much. so if you need to find out any other things let me no. God bless you.:)
angel1104 01-25-2006, 09:15 PM Hi Everyone! My fiance just called and said that he received a letter saying that he got approved for the program at Eastern. My question is does anyone know how long it takes to get moved to eastern? Also how long is the program for?
Thanks
