Does anyone know if it's against the rules for prisoners to put an 800# on their list and call it, as opposed to making a collect call? It is not expensive to get an 800# line (about $5/month), and then calls would only be 5-15 cents a minute. I assume there must be a reason I haven't seen any postings about it though? I called MDOC and they said they don't know if it's allowed or not. So I"ll keep checking, but if any of you have run across this before, please let me know!

Hey - you know the DOC has to make money whatever it takes! Even if it's off of collect calls from inmates. It's not enough our taxes pay their salaries - our loved ones' phone calls do too.

When I start work again, I plan on signing up for 401(k). This time I'm going to look for companies that profit from inmates and their families.
Time to make some of my own money back!

Last year CA deposited $35 million into the general fund from CDC collect calls! There is no way they will give our loved-ones a break!
