Does anyone have any info. on calico rock? I'm not concerned with visitation as I live in NY (too far). I would like to know how the facility is overall. Anything has got to be better than BRICKEYS! We worked for 10 months to get my brother transferred to wrightsville from Brickeys, he finally got there. Was there a week then got caught with tobacco and was sent to Calico Rock. Talk about being pissed!

Well I will tell you this if he gets caught with tobacco at Calico Rock he will catch a free world charge. The place is very clean and safe but it is probably the strictest unit in the system. They send homosexuals there for protection along with child molesters. His best bet is to quit smoking while he is there or he will regret it.

My brother just got transferred from Brickeys. He was in Max for over a year like a caged animal because going out meant fighting for your life everysingle day. My brother is 6'2 and 230lbs and very capable of taking care of himself. He is also white and having some difficulty being a minority. He say's the guards were worse than the inmates. He could not even do his time. He finally went to Max for a tattoo and decided that it was the best rest he had ever had. He chose not to come out for over a year. The down side to that is it has changed him, I am not sure if he will ever be the same after spending the last two years in Brickey. That place is the biggest hell hole.
One night he was pulled out of max and sent to North Central. He feels like he is at the country club. They have a football team and a baseball team. He sat outside the first day for four hours. It's the first time he has been outside in the sun in THREE YEARS. Prison turns human beings into dogs crouching in the corner with thier tales between their legs. It's the most horrible thing my family has ever been through.
We pray every night that he will make it home alive. I am hoping that now he is at North Central our prayers will be answered. He called home so excited because they gave him a piece of CAKE for christ's sake!

There is alot of racial tension at Calico. If he is black, he probably doesn't want to go there. The region is 100% white, the staff is 100% white. This is AR remember. Otherwise, he has to be on guard for the homosexuals which are sent there as above post stated and he needs to stay away from the white supremist gangs, Aryan nation and the like. If he minds his own business, its not a bad unit in gorgeous country.

B-girl, Says who? They are still transferring problem blacks to N.Central. There is still a large population of white supremist gangs there. Just because there were some scuffles and a expose by Frago in the Demo does not mean anything changed. The faces maybe but not the policy.
