As you guyz know I am fairly new to the penpal issue; well, I sent out 2 letters on 30th dec to texas and florence co (?) what i did not know then is that i have to put my address on the envelop as the sender. does this mean that the people i wrote did not get the letters? if they did get them, how long does it take for letters to be handed out (bearing in mind i live in the u.k)?

....also there is someone in raiford texas that i had wanted to write to but i have been scared to do so coz i don't want them to get in trouble, I would never mention the internet, infact i wanted to say that a friend gave me the contacts but would that hold water? I don't want anyone to get any more trouble than they already are in (I read that all FL DR inmates are in the "hole") but i do feel that this individual needs a friend, so good people, where do i go from here...? thanks for your time & God bless:)

My first letter to my guy, I didnt put my return address on it, but somehow he got it (thank god!) I know in Georgia, where my boyfriend is, they get the mail the same day it comes in. If you dont hear from them soon, write them back. I would think if they didnt give the letters to the guys that they would return them to you, but thats just a guess. Who knows with the DOC!

About Florida, that is a tough situation. So unfair. Why not just write and not tell him where you got the address?

Its a great thing you are doing, writing these men. Happy writing, and I hope you get your responses soon!

I don't think any DOC will forward mail without a return address-though I could be wrong. Also you can write to ANY inmate that you want and if they are prohibited to have internet ad's and such you can just say that you were "given" their name to write to-that wouldn't raise any real red flags I don't believe because that actually happens quite often-Good luck and I hope this helps.

I've had Christmas cards returned from Texas because they were sent in red-colored envelopes. Someone later told me that may have been because it was difficult to read the return addresses--who knows? I honestly believe that prison mailroom regulations in Texas vary according to the phase of the moon.

It may be obvious to most, but to any who do not know: any mail sent to prisoners on Death Row is usually opened, read, and photocopied before being passed along to the recipient. The same is true for his or her response. So if, for example, you ask a question and do not receive any response from your pen pal, this may be why. And when writing, do choose your words carefully (especially if mentioning anything even remotely connected to someone's ongoing appeals or legal efforts).
