View Full Version : Geez! The cost of text books!!! trnd_around 01-10-2006, 12:45 PM Why are textbooks so darn expensive? It's no wonder college students are poor!:p Thought I'd rant a little, good luck to all my fellow students!:) WaitN4Him 01-10-2006, 07:19 PM you already know and I thought I did good this semester only $350. MrsBenji 01-10-2006, 08:26 PM UGH! I spent over $300 for TWO classes. *GAG* Jenn DENIMBLUE 01-10-2006, 08:40 PM ...:yuck: textbooks! Jonathan 01-10-2006, 08:47 PM $800.00 here Confused!?!? 01-10-2006, 08:49 PM my out of state tuition is well over a grand each semester cuz i take between thirteen and fifteen units:eek:...and when i go to pay for books it's about half my tuition fees?!?!? but i got a part time job at the bookstore for a couple weeks, so i get a discount this time:D. good luck! Lilly MrsBenji 01-10-2006, 08:50 PM Even in-state tuition for a grand a semester is pretty good. I pay $2500 for part time for two classes, but I do go thru Strayer-Online, but still. I'd pay a grand anyday!! :) Good idea about getting the employee discount! Smart move!! :) Jenn Confused!?!? 01-10-2006, 08:54 PM holy god! a 2500 a semester!!! well, i do go to a J.C. right now but im all of a sudden not looking forward to university costs... MrsBenji 01-10-2006, 09:07 PM My first degree at undergrad/in-state was around $1300-$1600 for a full time semester. You just gotta shop around if you can. :) Jenn nimuay 01-10-2006, 10:36 PM Check on-line for texts. No help at all for those "special ones" written by the profs, but for standard courses you can usually find some. windwalker 01-11-2006, 12:43 PM And used textbooks. We have 2 different bookstores at our university. One is a Barnes and Noble, and one is across the street off campus, and is pretty much a mom and pop outfit. Both offer exactly the same books, but, on USED textbooks, I get a heck of a better deal across the street. I'm taking 6 classes this semester, and we're betting on almost a grand on textbooks. I however, am the queen of Bargains, and refuse to admit defeat. I'll come in under $500. It's still outrageous. Angela MrsBenji 01-11-2006, 12:51 PM GOOD FOR YOU!!!! Unfortunately, one of my profs wants a brand new spanking book and the other is a revised edition so I have to get the new one of that too, but fortunately, it will carry me through TWO classes instead of one. That always makes it easier to handle in my world.... :) Used books are a great option if you can find them. Once in a while you can find one on e-bay or Amazon as well!!! Jenn windwalker 01-13-2006, 01:27 PM 5 classes 2 have no books whatsoever.(one is a PE class and one is just wierd) But, one of the no book classes, is done on the computer, and your homework is done online, at home. You have to buy a CODE. This code is good for 2 semesters. But it's $88!!! Jeesh! All in all my book bill was reasonable. $256. Done. e_wife03 01-17-2006, 10:02 PM What is funny about the school i go to is that they have most of their books specially made for their school.. so yea i got to pay out the behind for my books.. lol .. my math book is 245 and then i got to buy a extra book which is another 65.. My Anatomy book is another 260 and now they want us to by the human anatomy atlas which is 80 dollars.. PattiD1157 01-17-2006, 10:10 PM How well I can relate to the cost of books. I have spent $500 for books this semester. I dropped my math class last semester. There is no text for that, just one of the math teachers writing stuff she thinks we need to know. Well last semester I fought long and hard and just wasn't getting it. The instructor was of no help at all, so I dropped it. I paid $14.00 for the math packet (a manilla envelope filled with printed papers), I decided to give the math another try. I emailed the instructor I am having this semester to see if it was the same packet. She emailed me back telling me that it has been revised. Was very relieved to hear that as the packet last semster was unedited, non-published and full of errors in the book as well as typo's. I stopped at the book store after class this afternoon and the math packet is $42.00....certainly wasn't expecting that, but have math tomorrow so had to buy it. Ok enough venting on books and math. Patti babieboo 01-17-2006, 10:42 PM books are so expensive. this semester i get to use the same book from last semester for one class. Then i think I only have to get a book for music appreciation. THank God! In the past I have ordered my books used from amazon. It was much more affordable even though it took awhile for my books to arrive. |
