I just wanted to share with everyone what i found out yesterday. Occasionally i will go check the ODOC website to see if hubby's page has been updated. He has been tellin me that he only has around 16 months left and he is due to go to minimum in August..which ya'll already know. Well i found out yesterday on the ODOC website that his next parole date isnt until 4/2006. So I dont know what is up. I am definitely gonna find out though. It just made me feel even more down than i already was. I havent gotten a letter since last thursday and it is still over a week until i get a phone call again. I am worrying myself to death over him..hoping he is ok. :(

Tammy,

When was he sentenced and for how long? Is his crime considered violent or non-violent? That plays a role in their parole hearings. I think it generally takes about 3 1/2 to 4 years to be paroled for a 12 year sentence.

Just hang in there and wait till he explains what the deal is, maybe the date he told you is the date he might get a parole or maybe he has some good time not listed on the DOC website. Steve&kids

Tammy if he is a non violent and the crime was done after a certain date due to the truth in sentencing law he would require him to do 1/3 of his sentence before parole but concidering his gain time and all he could actually discharge his sentence before his parole date. Calm down and wait until you hear from him aout what is going on.

I agree, TxRenee would be a good one to ask. I know good time can change a lot of stuff, because when I look up Shahan's stuff on the ODOC page, it lists his release date as some time in 2008. Right now, with his good time intact, he's looking at coming home next summer. Also, I think sometimes eligibility for parole changes and so the posted hearing dates aren't always correct. So don't panic yet--it might be a good idea to double check, but I know things change inside that don't get posted online.
