Hi my man is in a new york state prison. He has been geting regular physical therapy because he has back problems and needs surgery. The problem is they stopped his therapy and I don't know why they did not even tell him that they were not taking him anymore they just have not taken him in a couple of weeks. He is in a lot of pain. It is important that he gets the therapy or it can get worse and then he will not be able to walk. He is afraid to say somethin cause he is in one of the worst prisons in this state and they beat the inmates for no reason and real bad. What can I do to help him?

Sorry to hear that. I don't have an answer for you but I'm sure someone will be along that does. Good luck with this situation

The first thing you want to do is to make sure that he has signed a HIPAA release form which gives them authority to discuss his health care with you because without this there might not be much you can do.

Secondly, once the form is on file you want to call the medical director and/or the deputy superintendent of the facility and talk to them about his health care. If you don't get any satisfaction from them at the facility level, then you want to contact the medical director on the state level. Here is a link to the thread that contains that information for NY.

Being their wives...are we entitled to this info? or any info for that matter? Or is there something he needs to do still?

Only to say that in the outside world what I've seen is that a dr. writes a prescription for physical therapy. Its for a set period of time, you get accessed by the therapist before you start (measurements of how much you can bend, your reach, stuff like that) and, few times in between and then again before the prescription is about to end. The therapist writes up a report and sends it to the dr. You take it from there as to whether more treatment is needed. Like I said, don't know how this all works in prison.

The doctor did not discontinue the therapy for him. He is supose to go but the co's will not take him to the appoinments cause they are just messed up. He is supose to get transfered to another facility in a few weeks so hopefully things will get better. I hope so.
