Official announcement made hours after emotional team meeting

(1/2/05 - HOUSTON) - Dom Capers was fired as coach of the Houston Texans on Monday, one day after the team finished with the league's worst record.

Owner Bob McNair made the announcement several hours after Capers told the players at a morning meeting that he had been let go.

The Texans, who hired former NFL coach Dan Reeves as a consultant last month, will keep general manager Charley Casserly.

"We want to see improvement every year. That didn't happen this year," McNair said. "I thought it was in the best interest of the team to let Dom Capers go."

They fired a bunch of coaches recently... like I think they fired the New Orleans guy, the Jets guy, and some others (mostly the "bad" teams, which the Texans definitely were this year)... it should be interesting to see all of the new coaching arrangements and if they will make a difference as early as next year. I haven't heard who Houston is looking at, I hope they get someone good, I hate when teams are really bad for a long time.

I sure am glad we got to see a bunch of Texan games the season before this past one (thanks to friends with season tickets) rather than this past season!! I didn't even catch a full game on TV. I'm sorry but I am not loyal enough to cheer for the perpetual loser.. Puts me in a bad mood. :p I can think of a few more people who might need firing and wonder-boy from UT isn't going to save the day even if they draft him. They need more wide spread changes..
