:fb: my husband is locked up in texas, and here you are not allowed but one call every 90 days in 5 years he has not had one. his grandfather passed last friday and could not attend the burial. because they dont claim grand parents as imm. family. we would have to prove his grandmother and father raised him. my husband took this very hard. i spoke with the chief of classfication to notify him, and i was promissed he would be told by the chaplin and the major and they told me they would have him call home by no later then 8:00pm, 8:00pm rolled around then 9 then 10 i started calling then spoke with 3 officers who which wanted to ignore me, then i called again for a ranking officer, then was told they would have him pulled they were in the middle of count. now remember i called at 10:ooam that morning. i gave my home # and no call come 12:00 midnight i called back and was told they tried to call my house but got a answering machine which i dont have, i then said i want rank, they had my husband in a waiting room for 2 hours claiming they were calling me. i got to finally speak with my husband and the serg. had the nerve to listen to the call and was telling my husband he had 2 mins. when i was promised 10 mins. we have to keep the calls going when our family memeber are in need. if you are getting calls 2 days a week count your self as lucky not all inmates can use the phone i only was able to because of the death, in 5 years. by the way he was not told by a chaplin but the serg. when he got into the room.
we are currently wanting for parole hiring march 2003 on a 20 year sent. he has a total of 9 years on the same case non-ag.

that's just awful & i can hear your frustration!! Thank you for sharing your story and don't stop talking! Also welcome to pto! I feel humbled after reading how bad it can be for others! For instance, the phone privelages! And I'm also sorry to hear how rotten you were both treated in the middle of dealing w/ a death in your family. That's just harsh! I'm interested to hear how things go w/ the parole possibility. Have you had any expereiences w/ that yet?

sorry to hear that!! I hope the attorney will be able to help out. A friend of mine wasn't allowed to even go to the funeral of his own mother, who passed away a few months ago. It sounds like the DOC doesn't care at all about the inmates losts

I am sorry about your husband's loss - mine lost his grandmother while incarcerated too. It was a blow to him and he didn't get to go to the funeral. The DOC is not very considerate of inmate's families or how the inmates feel, especially in times of grief.

YEAH- THE SAME GOES FOR GIVING BIRTH- I GAVE BIRTH TO A BABY BOY IN OCT OF THIS YEAR- AND JAY STILL HASN'T SEEN HIS SON- THE DOC DOESN'T CARE I GUESS ABOUT BIRTHS OR DEATHS- THEY TRY TO KEEP THE INMATE AWAY FROM FAMILY- AND THEN EXPECT THEM TO COME OUT BETTER PEOPLE WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE......NOT FAIR!!!

My husbands father passed away last year and when we called the prison there in Texas where his brother was being held, we were told that we had to talk to the Chaplain. Fine, no problem with that except he was on vacation and we would have to wait. We were told that they could only call the chaplain in an emergency and this was not considered an emergency. Yeah, the death of your father is not an emergency. Anyway, we went round and round with the jerks there and one guy said he would have no problem going to his cell and telling him for us. Yeah right!!.. The next day, which was Sunday, I decided to see if I could find a church that might help. Every town has a First Baptist Church and so I got a number and called and explained my situation and asked if they had a prison ministry and if anyone could help. They happen to know the Chaplain and called him immediately. He was on his tractor farming and came straight from his tractor to the prison. Within an hour, my brother-in-law was on the phone with us. However, as most of you know, my husband is from Cuba and he and his brother were told they were only allowed to speak English and yes, their phone call was monitored.

My heart goes out to all of you who have suffered a loss and were mistreated by TDCJ.

BLESS YOU CHILD... I REALLY DO KNOW HOW THIS HURTS... YOUR HUSBAND IS GOING THROUGH A LOT OF PAIN RIGHT NOW... I REALIZE THAT THEY CANNOT LET THEM GO TO EVERY FUNERAL THAT HAPPENS IN THEIR FAMILY, BUT I WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND WHY THEIR PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS AND BROTHER, SISTER, CHILD OR SPOUSE IS NOT INCLUDED IN BEING ABLE TO GO TO FUNERALS.

THIS IS ANOTHER CHANGE THAT REALLY NEED TO TAKE PLACE.... I AGREE THAT THIS CREATES ANGER AND BITTERNESS AND THEY HAVE ENOUGH OF THAT .

KEEP THE FIGHT UP.

LOVE YA
DONNA
