Hello, my fiance is Chippewa Cree Indian and his tribe is from Montana. He will be in prison until January of next year for posession of narcotics. I'm so glad that there is a forum for this and I hope that there is more natives out there. My man is so proud of his heritage and I am also part Navajo Indian too. I am so proud to be with a Native American!

Hello all. I'm not Native American either. My friend is Lakota/objibwe/Cree and he has been on the inside for 19years. So, all issues concerning Native American prisoners interest me greatly. Hope we can all help each other in supporting them.

Hi Shelly, I am Lakota-Cherokee. My man is full blood Ojibway. Glad to hear your man is getting out soon. Good luck to both of you. Up here in Canada more than 50 percent of inmates omcarcerated in the three prairie provinces are are Native. Well that is another story.. I am betting the same is close to the truth in the US. Nice to meet you. Actually, in California there's not a whole lot of Natives. My fiance hangs out with maybe 4 at the prison. The majority that is locked up here is probably hispanic and then whites.

Hi Shelly, nice to meet you too. I was actually referring to the prairie region of the US. The Dakotas etc. Of course, being up here it is difficult to know, I was just summizing. Love your little wavy guy by the way. Shiningdrum

Nice to meet you!

I grew up with a Chippewa/Cree family from Montana.

Is he from or near Rocky Boy Montana?

Yes, he sure is. How funny, what a small world. He still has cousins and uncles that live out there. He's going to take
me there when he gets out next year. That is too cool!

It's SOOOOO pretty up there. Last time I was there was to pick up the horses. They werent used to fences and when we got them back here, they proceded to walk through barbed wire fences 3 times :( heh

I'm sure you will love it! :)

Hello, everyone...

My man is part Cherokee... it comes from his Mother ( God rest her soul) and her side of the family.

On my mother's side, my Grandmother was Chippewa.

We are getting married (on the inside) next week!!!!!!!

We really wanted to have a Native American Ceremony, but the Istitution won't allow it:(

However, we will continue to study our heritage and do our best to uphold it in all other possible ways.

It's nice to see that there are other people who want to do the same.

Hello all,
I made a trip to Montana 3 or 4 years ago to deliver food blankets etc. to some Native families up there. One of my best friends was from Rocky Boy. He was a retired FBI agent. The story of "Thunderheart" was made into a movie.
He was full-blooded Chippewa and one of the most honorable men I ever knew. He passed on but the spirit of Thunderheart will always remain in his people!! He was a good teacher and a good leader.we miss him.Eagle's Dove

Most of the so-called 'hispanics' (I prefer the term Chicana/o as it reflects pride on our indigenous heritage) are Natives. It's a somewhat different culture, but the same brown eyes/skin and black hair, and the same history.

I an an unenrolled Cherokee on my mother's side (1/8 or 1/16, I don't remember anymore) and Mexica on my father's side and a whole bunch of Eurpoean ethnicities from both. I am a mutt :p

My man is a fullblood Native, half Ute and half Paiute, but he is enrolled with the Paiute tribe.

I'm glad to see this Native forum and other Mexican Natives on here!

Are there any Southern Paiutes in here? I would love to learn the language as it's my man's first language.

Hi.. I'm an unenrolled Chippewa and I have some Obijwa blood in me.. I want to find *ALL* information I can regarding these 2 and any other tribes. Cuz I've missed an opportunity to learn their way of life and to be enrolled due to a death in the family. Because when a person dies, my family left it to be unspoken. Argh... :( Help me?
