View Full Version : visitation in oklahoma
tammysmith 06-15-2003, 09:08 AM I was wondering if anyone can tell me anything about the visiting policy in oklahoma facilities. Trent is going to be transferred to a minimum facility in august. I was wondering if there will be a waiting period or if can go visit right away.
aprilcat 06-15-2003, 10:20 AM tammy, here's a link to the vistation policies on the oklahoma doc webpage. if that doesn't tell you what you need, i think i would call the facility where your husband will be transferred. ac

tammysmith 06-15-2003, 10:56 AM thanks for posting that website. I found out that their original visiting list from the first place they was at transfers with them. I may possibly still be on his list.
They normally do transferr all the visitation list when transferred,
tammysmith 06-15-2003, 01:03 PM what i need to do is make sure he didnt take me off when i left him 7 years ago. I think i can find that out from him.
Lysbeth 07-05-2003, 01:10 AM Hi Tammy,
Since you had some state-specific visitation questions for Oklahoma, I have moved this thread to the Oklahoma forum so your post will have the opportunity to get more specific responses and the best answers to your questions... AND the information will be here to help others in the future, too. :)
You also might want to thumb thru the Oklahoma forum to see if some of your questions have already been answered in the past... the direct link to the forum is here:

Hope you find all the info you're looking for and good luck! :)

lady_sandy 07-05-2003, 01:31 AM You might want to try and call the facility that he is at and ask visitation if you are on his list. I know I have had to fill out a visiting form every time my husband has been moved.
MommaHen 07-05-2003, 06:39 PM Tammy hun there card goes with them but you still have to refill new forms at each place he is moved and they waiting period varies on the facility and how quickly the ones in the office work. Normally 2-4 weeks!!!
Angllv73 07-16-2003, 01:50 AM my brother is in the OKlahoma County Correctional facility at 201 N,Shartel in OKlahoma City,he has been there for almost 2 years now waiting his trial that has been put off more times then i can count now, go figure that one.I do know that i can go see him when i get to oklahoma next week from california and visit him for 3 hours
wannamae 07-16-2003, 06:47 AM I would make sure that the prison gaurds know that you have travel all this way, they may let you visit longer since you are from outa state.
MommaHen 07-16-2003, 12:09 PM The 3 hours is the longer period he is in the county jail here. You usually only get 15 minutes and it will be none contact.
born_in_spirit 08-02-2003, 04:34 PM I was incarcerated at John Lilley Correctional Center in Boley, OK. It was my awareness that inmate recently transferred there from other facilities were ready to visit with visitors immediately.
born_in_spirit 08-02-2003, 04:36 PM I just saw Lawanna's response. One time my parents drove all the way from Tulsa to see me and I had taken them off the visitation list. They truned them away and they had to drive all the way back. Their hours are set and they don't deviate from them!
MommaHen 08-02-2003, 10:24 PM Born most facilities do give you a 30 day grace period to get the visitor on the list but you have to ask for it most do not tell the inmates.
odelljrg 08-07-2003, 12:47 AM ALSO SOMETIMES DEPENDS ON WHAT CLOTHES YOU WHERE OR WHAT COLORS,...MABEL BASSITT TURNS YOU AWAY IF YOU WEAR SOMETHING "WRONG"...WHICH CAN CHANGE FROM DAY TO DAY...I HAVE SEEN RELATIVES FROM OUT OF TOWN ...TURNED AWAY. NO EXCEPTIONS.
VISITORS MUST OBEY THE RULES AND VISITORS ARE EXPECTED TO FIND OUT IN ADVANCE WHAT THOSE RULES ARE.
DON'T EXPECT THEM TO CHANGE THE RULES JUST FOR YOU!
THE INMATES HAVE TO FOLLOW RULES/ THE VISITORS MUST DO THE SAME.
natsaunt 08-25-2003, 09:55 PM I'm new to this, but it is my experience that when an inmate is transferred to a new facility they can recevie visitors for up to 30 days, as long as you are on the list. I think that at EWCC you have to be immediate family to visit in the first thrity days, regardless of a list, or that might have just been my nieces mistake, as I wasn't able to visit her because I wasn't considered immediate family. Hope it helps.
TxRenee 08-26-2003, 12:51 AM nats,
Welcome to PTO!! My fiance is at William S. Key in Ft Supply. He just got moved there. Last time I got to see him was July 5th 2003. His list did not move with him and he could have no visitors for the 1st 30 days. This weekend God willing I will get to see him and this new place he is in.
Again Welcome!!!
natsaunt 08-26-2003, 01:36 PM TexRenee, Thank you so much for responding to my post, and the warm welcome. I am sooooooooo happy I found this place, because I need support....most of the family talk about what if's and if only's and I want to fight, to try and find out someway to get her sentence cut in half like DOC recommended or do something to make the time work for her. She is to old to get grants for school, so I guess if the family pays for it she could study and get a degree.
When you are feeling so hopeless it helps so much to have people like you that understand and sympathize with you...it gives you strength and you will never know how much your reply meant to me.
I will be praying that you get to see him so very soon, and i'm so happy for him that he has you.
Please keep me updated, would love to know how your visit goes :-)
natsaunt (Sharon)
