i just want to get this off my chest...
today i had a discussion with some "friends". Well they were discusing something and i had to defent myself. It was about this: deathpenalty is wrong coz of the juv. offenders that get executed and coz some inmates are probably innocent. But....if the offender said he was quilty, then there is the 'no doubt' rule and he should/must be executed!!!
Lots of petitions are about the juv., the probably innocent ones etc. And that ok.
But.....
My boy there admitted what he did, as he said it: im quilty as fuck!
But i dont think deathpenalty is right, not for the 'yeah i did that' ones too. My "friends" went so far that i started crying. I felt so alone in my opinion, and they just didnt seem to understand me. they said they could understand it that i help juv. and innocent inmates but that i was wasting my time with my boy there coz he needs to get what he deserve and there was no doubt about his guild. they said i was crazy. my other dear beloved friend on a D/R in Florida has borderline syndrom, it was ok to support him. But my boy in TX, well i was stupid and he should get his punishment. coz he is guilty, he knew this would happen, he is not to young or mentally ill. their point was, deathpenalty is ok if the inmate admitted what he did.

Friends here on PTO, im so sad, i feel so alone now, i just wanted to tell you this coz i hope anyone here understand why i help and support a quilty boy, why i still fight against deathpenalty...
i hope you dont mind me telling you this, i just didnt know who else to tell.

thanx for listening

I feel the exact same way you do. I lost it one night at work when someone saw me writing a letter during break and asked who I was writing to. I just briefly told them and of course that started a debate and I left the room pretty angry. I apologized later for the way I left, but told them that they have to understand it is now personal.

You are doing the right thing... don't quit on this guy. He needs you.

it hurts me to read this - but i know the same things. people really do not understand and i quit contact to some, because i was not able to accept their attitude about it. i mean who are we to decide who lifes and who dies ? i come from a country, where the nazis already thought that they can say, which life is worthless - i will not allow anybody to talk like this when i am around. we can not decide who lifes and who dies. and when we kill, we go down to the same level as somebody who is guilty on death row - no, on a lower level, because those guys know that they did wrong.

I know exactly what you mean, had the same discussions with some people myself. It hurts me to hear how ignorant people can be...

This is the very reason, as an RSO, I do not offer the info! I have two close buddies, and they don't know. Basically they are not in a "need to know" and I don't want them to have to deal with it. And that has nothing to do with TRUST!!

people rarly understand what it feels like to deal with the prison system or death row until it affects them. that is why it is so hard to change things. they really do not understand or have a working knowledge of why we fight for what we fight for.

MARA-I DO NOT BELIEVE THE DEATH PENALTY IS RIGHT EVER. PEOPLE HAVE THEIR VIEWS ON THIS TOPIC FOR A MILLION AND ONE DIFFERENT REASONS-SOME WILL NEVER CHANGE THEIR MINDS-OTHERS ARE OPEN TO CONSIDER RATIONALE FOR OTHER VIEWS- WE ACNNOT CHANGE EVRYONE'S MINDS BUT WE CAN CHANGE THE LEGALITY OF THE DEATHPENALTY PRACTICE-

I have a friend (she's only 17) who told me that 6 months ago she was pro-death penalty...until she found out there are a lot of innocent people on death row. Now she's against it. Maybe not the strongest or best reason to be against it, but at least she's AGAINST it....
