HI i have a friend who also has a loved one incarserated and needs help. my friends son was recently placed in high desert state prison in susanville. A few days ago she visited her son and told me that she noticed that her son would laugh by himself maybe twice an hour. She was there for a few hours and said that he would constantly do it. i told her that maybe her son was nervous and that sometimes people react in different ways when they find themselves nervous. she in return told me that when he was incarserated in merced ca (county jail) that she noticed that behavior but never acted upon it. she thinks that he may need psychological help. im not sure what advise to give her...oh also her son hardly speaks with her it seems like he has some kind of grudge against her.. what do i do or tell her???

vero,
I am not exactly sure here what to tell you other than perhaps your friend should write to the Prison Warden/
Superintendent suggesting her thoughts and worries and request an evaluation?
I am going to move this to the Mental Health Forum as it seems that it is more appropriate there.
thanx for the advice i really apreciate it thats a good step to take thanx..

Hi vero :)
It's very kind of you to want to help your friend and her son. And by all means, if she thinks there is something "odd" with her son's behavior, then it should be looked into further. I would suggest that either of you call the prison, and ask to speak to the chaplain, as well as Mental Health services (certain personal information will only be released to your friend, though). Explain the situation, and remember to be polite at all times--it's best to keep emotion out of it as much as possible (as hard as that is).
The number at High Desert is (530) 251-5100, and the Warden's name is David Runnels. If you or she would be more comfortable writing to address this issue, the address is:
High Desert State Prison
475-750 Rice Canyon Rd.
P.O. Box 750
Susanville, CA 96127-0750
(530) 251-5100
Let us know how it goes, okay?
Susan in Providence
thank you very much for your information i will let my friend know about it thanx a bunch..
