View Full Version : Favorite places in Cali?
California Sunshine 12-22-2005, 01:53 AM What are some of your favorite places to go to and/or things to do in our great State? Wether it be a vacation, day trip, somewhere you visit often...anywhere lets share :)
Personally I love weekend trips to Lake Tahoe,San Francisco,Capitola.
Longer trips my #1 spot is Disneyland, love that place! It is my "happy place"! I like the LA area for shopping and night clubs but don't make it down that way too often and I love Santa Barbara but again rarely make it down that way.
I'd love to start taking some more day trips so if anyone has any suggestions for places within a couple hours of the Sacramento area I'd love to hear them.
luckyme1526 12-22-2005, 02:30 AM I also love Disneyland, it's my favorite place, I would love to get married there, their weddings are fantastic, I go there a lot, I have a passport! LOL
I also love San Diego, I live here, but I get no traffic so I love it! I like to go visit my Aunt in Covina in Los Angeles, it's pretty cool over there too. And I like Valencia for Magic Mountain! =)
Of corse here I have the world famous San Diego zoo and sea world, so I love it!

qwerty 12-22-2005, 02:39 AM Cali, I live right down the road from Capitola, so you betta just let me know when you're in my neck of the woods!
I love the coast for sure, but also the fields of Salinas, the beauty of the Mojave desert, and even the long, dusty roads and fields of the central valley.
I just love California!!!
Valerie 12-22-2005, 04:11 AM I love the Calif. beach's
cryinblueeyes 12-22-2005, 06:20 AM Great thread Sunshine. My man is getting out soon (check my ticker ladies) and I will be heading out there soon after he gets out. I want to take him on a romantic weekend and need some ideas, this will be a complete surprise to him so I want to make it good! Any suggestions? Romantic towns or cities?
LeBeau 12-22-2005, 08:13 AM It doesn't quite fall into the "Couple of Hours from Sac" catagory, but for general beauty you just can't beat Humboldt and Mendocino Counties. From April through October, there is some kind of festival nearly every weekend somewhere in the region, from Eureka's Dixieland Jazz Festival to The Redwood Run (one of California's premier events for motorcyclists) there is something for everyone... Art, food, beer, Jazz, Blues, Reggae, Shakespeare and a dozen other interests each have their own celebrations in this startlingly beautiful region....and for the outdoorsy types, you just can't ask for better fishing, hiking, climbing or camping.
I have not yet met anyone from 4 to 80 who didn't love visiting Humboldt State University's Marine Lab in Trinidad.... The village of Ferndale is a charming little corner of the world, filled with beautiful Victorian homes and a wide variety of shops and galleries (a popular place with location scouts, several major movies including 'Salem's Lot and Outbreak have been filmed there) and the Humboldt County Fairgrounds are just out of town, host the longest running fair in the state (in a single location, never missing a year) I think we're headed for the 110th County fair this year... I lived in that area for 25 years and never quite got used to the stunning beauty or cultural diversity....a very special place.
(And don't get me started about the Redwood forests!)
Csmcgrl23 12-22-2005, 08:54 AM Yosemite!!! This has to be one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen! Another beautiful site is driving down the coast from S.F. to L.A.
Locally (L.A.) I love it all. I'm not a theme park goer, Disneyland lost it's magic for me. I love Magic Mountain but with my back being bad I haven't been in years. Venice Beach is always good, so is the shopping at Santa Monica's 3rd street. Hollywood has cleaned up it's act and there's always something new and strange to see. Bascially I love all of Soutern Cali!!
NIKKIWHIT70 12-22-2005, 10:30 AM Oh how I love California!
Let's see I live in the San Diego area so of course I love downtown. La Jolla is beautiful.
Disneyland is a great place (just went there). Magic Mountain is fun. I love Santa Cruz. (It takes me back to my childhood days of vacationing there):)
Yosemite is great too. I think my favorite place to visit would be San Francisco. I love to walk around that city!:)
Pismo is also another fun place. They have a great resturant there. It's called McClintock's. Wonderful food!:)
misssusiequsie 12-22-2005, 10:42 AM I live in a beautiful little town in the Ojai Valley. It is very beautiful and good to come relax and go to the spa. We have beautiful mountains, a huge lake, great places for camping and not to far from the beach. One place I visited recently was Alcatraz and the peir in San Francisco. I liked it a lot.
Crstnamre 12-25-2005, 07:37 PM One of my very favorite places is Whites Point in San Pedro. Its got tide pools to climb in and investigate, and all you can hear are the waves crashing....no planes, trains or automobiles.
All4tag 12-26-2005, 12:31 AM Ok I have to contribute on this post here... I love Big Sur, but this time of year isnt the best time for there. And the drive from San Francisco to Big Sur is awesome, then from there to Hearst Castle is also so pretty, then if its spring or summer you take one of those roads off the side and end up in some beautiful little hidden places. Heasrt Castle is fun. I too like everybody else in this post finds LA to be full of great sites. I really enjoyed Medevil Times (Buena Park) , they do have one up in San Jose area but I haven't went to that one. San Francisco has got to be the most interesting and fun city to do a short one in! I haven't been too far up north so I can't say, but I am planning on seeing more of it this next year. Tahoe is not too bad either. Gee when you think about it, there are so many cool places one can go in Cali, that aren't that far ... Who dosen't love Disneyland? Happy Traveling!!!
jdcjmc1 12-26-2005, 01:04 AM One of my favrotie places is Griffith park Observatory. Its beautiful there and you can see Santa Monica beach from there if it is a perfectly clear day, you can basically see all of los angeles and surrounding areas if it is clear.\

Thanks for the warm rush of memories...some of the happiest hours of my early childhood were spent there with my beloved, wonderful Grandma... and yes, the view on a clear day is astonishingly beautiful.
momuvjosh 12-26-2005, 01:19 PM Okay Im predjudiced because I live here but if you like boating and water sports Shasta Lake and Whiskeytown Lake are it. Also we have Mt Shasta for winter sports. The mountains here are beautiful. Recreation all around except for theme parks. Also just a 3 hour beautiful drive over to the coast.
kkcritter 01-04-2006, 10:35 AM I lived in the Berkeley area for 8 years and would love to go back and see just all the natural beauty in the San Franciso area. There is beauty everywhere. I loved going to work in the mornings because I had to cross the San Rafael Bridge into Marin (very beautiful) and I could see the Golden Gate Bridge. (I drove right by San Quentin Prison each day and sometimes I would see inmates out doing highway/trash work. I always, always waved at them. It annoyed my kid alot. The funny thing is, that kid now WISHES he could be outside to get a wave from a dorky person.) I could spend a month in the area and still not see everything I would want.
