View Full Version : Son is in the "hole" @ CMC.....
justmomwaiting 12-21-2005, 06:34 AM Okay ladies I need your help. I am a Mom of a 24 yr old who is serving time for 3 years at CMC. I don't know too much so maybe you can educate me. My son wrote me and said that he was put in the hole for 6 months! He was conspiring to have another inmate beat up. Now I am sure he is guilty of this but can they put him in the hole for 6 months. That seems awfully long to me. My son also said that CMC is a rotten place to be because there are a lot of "chesters". What the heck are "chesters". He said also that they offer little to no kind of classes or work programs. Now is he pulling my leg or what? I know I am not that bright when it comes to prison but I thought that they offered something. He has been in there for a year already and has done nothing to help himself. He also said that he fell out of his top bunk ond knocked his 4 front teeth clean out of his head. Doesn't the medical/Dental staff provide some type of care for his teeth? I am trying to educate myself and be a little smarter than he is when it comes to understanding and believing his letters. He likes to manulipulate Mom. I have read almost all of your posts over the past 8 months or so and finally deceided to post. You all seem so nice and you guys got the inside scoop on everything. I have never gone to visit him either. I have been approved but then he got thrown into the hole and he wrote me and said not to come visit. I have spoken to him on the phone in about 3 months now. The last time he called he was drunk off of pruno. I do know what that is. LOL I was so angry I hung up on him. Do they ever learn. Thank God he has no children or a wife. Just a worried Mom. Thanks in advance for your help. Julie
Strasse 12-21-2005, 10:21 AM Yes, they can be in the hole for 6 months, or more! I had a 'pal who was in AdSeg ('the hole') for three months just waiting on an investigation (the 115 was eventually dropped).
Also, he's a relative short-timer; I don't know about CMC, but so many facilities are so overcrowded, the job and other programming slots go to the longer term inmates first, because they've been on the waiting list longer.
What will tell you if he's pulling your leg or not is his privilege group; if he's unable to program, it will be something like Work Group A2B, and he'll be able to call more than once a month, can get packages, etc. If he's unwilling to program, he'll be Work Group C, no phone calls, no packages, etc.
If you visit while he's in seg, it will be behind glass and only for an hour or two, depending on the facility; you'll also likely need an appointment to do so. I can understand his reluctance to have you visit under those conditions. Also, while he's in seg he won't have access to the phone.
Good luck!

Bob-bi-lu 12-21-2005, 11:24 AM Hi Julie....first of all I'd like to welcome you to PTO & our new CMC Form!
I will do my best to answer your questions...and I'm glad you've decided to post.
Prior to your son being placed in the hole, was in on the West Facility or the East facility? The West Facility houses Levels I, II and Fire Camp. While the East facility only houses Level III and also the "hole" is located on the East facility on B Quad.
As for the programs and jobs...CMC has a few that he can get into. They offer an educational program where he can obtain his GED. They offer Anger Management, Domestic Violence, AA and Family & Marriage class...just to name a few. As for jobs, they have electricial, auto body, painting, landscaping, air conditioning, boot manufacturing....also just to name a few.
As for "chesters," that is a slang word inside the prison for child molestors. CMC is not a SNY (sensitive needs yard) however there are more child molestors there than many GP prisons. However NOT everyone there is a sex offender. Believe it or not, CMC is one of the better prisons out there, so if your son is willing to do his own program and stay away from the child molestors than he will do just fine. The reason I say, stay away from the child molestors is because a lot of people don't like programming with them when they find out they are a sex offender.
As for the dentists inside the prison, your son is able to submit a request to see the dentist. It will cost him $5 but he will be seen. My fiance went to get his teeth cleaned and examined 2 weeks ago. They found out he had a cavity so he will be ducated in a few weeks to get the cavity filled.
They can keep your son in Ad/Seg for a year if they wanted to. They key words are "pending investigation." If the CO's use that term them they can hold him in the "hole" for up to 1 year. My man got in trouble and was given a 9 months SHU term which they had him complete in the hole. So it does happen a lot. Good luck and if you have more questions or need help please let me know.

babygirl350 12-21-2005, 08:39 PM Hello Julie and welcome to PTO as well as this wonderful Cali CMC Forum. I am glad you found us. You will find all of your answers and support right here. Your post caught my eye passing through from Kentucky as my husband is in the hole right now and trust me it is not fun, but we will live through it. They can keep them in there as long as they deam it necessary. It is their house and their rules and we just have to play along with it.
All my best to you and your son.
