Cameo 06-11-2003, 10:56 PM I was just surfing around and I found this site. I know many of our members have asked this question in the past and I think this will be a great tool in assisting them!
Hope it helps!

Dragonfly 10-09-2003, 09:25 AM Thank you Pam! Just what I came for, some help on how to write a petitition! California has got a new governor and I am planning to write him a letter!
timmysgirl79 01-22-2004, 09:43 PM I just started a petition. Thanks for the great link.Mine won't be up until Saturday though. Thanks again.
shimmer29 03-15-2005, 01:46 PM This may seem like an obvious pointer, but I think it's important for petitions to use proper English grammar, punctuation and spelling.
There is nothing more disappointing than reading a petition that makes valid points, getting all fired up to sign it and then noticing that it looks like it was written by an elementary school student. Sadly, I don't sign petitions drafted by someone who didn't care enough to even use the spell check feature on the computer. I would think that the addressees who receive the petitions also notice this.
If you're unsure of grammar, spelling or punctuation, have a second or third person proofread the petition. I think the petitions' subject matter as well as prospective signers deserve a professional, dignified appearance. I hope you do too.
outshineswisdom 07-11-2005, 11:16 AM Hey everyone, I just wanted to let you all know I found another site that puts up free petitions. It's www.ipetitions.com, I'll be posting mine there later on tonight. I tried to get on petitionpetitions.com and it redirected me to a site that had nothing to do with petitions. Hope this site works for all of us who need the help.

In answer to your question YES any inmate can have a petition started regardless of his crime or his sentence.
Just have to make sure that it is addressed to the right person(s) and that it is brief and yet to the point of what it is that you are trying to obtain ie, a sentence reduction, parole, clemency, etc.
The hardest job is in obtaining the signatures and getting the word out to the public, not just PTO members. Often times people will hard copy it and obtain signatures that way as well.
We have alot of good petitions here and I am sure if you look through enough of them if you are still interested, you can get some info from them and use it for your own petition.
Good luck to you and if you have any other questions, I will do my best to answer them or direct you in the right direction.

In my opinion, the best way is by word of mouth. Open up your address book and send notices to everyone you know.
If you are real creative you could make up flyers and hand them out or place them on cars in shopping malls.
Tell all your friends about it. Place a small ad in a local paper or on a college campus. There are alot of free sites available to put ads like this.
Good luck to you. We have so many wonderful petitions out here and I hope you will take the time to sign some along the way as you travel.
