UNCENSORED FROM TEXAS DEATH ROW 19

From Paul Colella
May 8 - 15

May 8
11:30 am - Soulja has struck again. Jacked his tray at lunch. The new Lt, Lt. Reese, and Lt. Price came to talk him out of it. No! Showing his dissatisfaction at the conditions and treatment. They came and gave a lot more fans out, still no electricity. The food, etc. etc. Anyway, here comes the team, Big Chavis, Ramirez, Triplette, Blanton, Vincent, Marigold on camera, Poole running the team, Lt. Price supervising. Sgt. Pool hit him 8-10 seconds the first spray, 5 minutes, another two orders, 8-10 second burst, a lot of gas is everywhere, choking all of us badly. They ran in right away. No way, whew when they ran in the air forced the gas out. Man it's not this bad getting gassed. Soulja tussled for almost a full minute which is an achievement in itself. He said he caught some punches but none were bad. So they finally cuffed him up, pulled him out and Nurse Byron checked him out.

They moved Guevera out of 74 cell and put him (Soulja) into 74 cell. Why? No reason at all. He hasn't chunked on anyone or jacked the food slot. Why they put him behind a box no one knows. It's more work for them to open the boxe to feed, so the hell with them. "T" has also jacked the food tray. We're waiting to see what happens. 12:47 pm - The same team just went over there. 5 seconds on the first shot of gas, 5 seconds on the second shot and ran right away. I'll find out if any punches were thrown and let you all know later.

Pissed off, blazing, mad, angry, frustrated and almost went into rage mode. Today at about 3:30 pm maintenance came in to do some work. Some cells had holes in the walls about an inch in diameter, so they came to plug them up. Usually I'm asleep at this time but they are pretty noisy so I get up, go stand at my door. There's a couple of Sgts, a couple officers and maintenance supervisor McCarthy. So I'm standing there as these 3 are talking about a pre release unit or ½ way house and writing guys up to send them back to TDC. So the conversation goes on and on and eventually changes to other institutions.

McCarthy then goes on to describe an incident where he was working at a female prison. Apparently one of the prisoners had refused to be stripped searched and became irate because male officers were there. So instead of calming the situation they suit up a team, go in, pull her out on the run, cuff her, shackle her and cut all her clothes off of her. Then walk her naked to seg. This is McCarthey's version and every minute he was speaking about humiliating this woman, he was smiling. I thought he would start drooling.

I cannot believe I actually held my tongue. This is the type of man who would peek in women's cells and run to the bathroom to masturbate 4, 5 times a day. I was dumbstruck on his story but got sooo mad because he personifies every vulgar and unjust thing that happens in prison especially female prisons. Here he is, fat, dumpy, sweaty, getting his jollies humiliating a woman who only wanted to be left a bit of dignity and respect.
People like him just piss me off!!

Soulja struck again. They gassed him and ran in on him because he jacked the cleaning supplies (ie bucket, toilet brush, whisk broom). I know my descriptions of the last run ins have not been very in depth but truthfully the teams have only been doing what they are supposed to. There's been a punch thrown here or there but that's it, and of course the usual twisting of limbs. I don't know what changed or what happened but they have been professional although the use of gas is still an issue and as I said they started using the more potent 10 % and it choked all of us.

Today team was run by Sgt. Hotea, supervised by Lt. Lawrence. Team was Baker, McIntire, Rains, Lamb, Wilson, on camera was Gasper. Today Lt. Lawrence had them turn the gas purge fan on right away. This is a first but it sure made the world of difference.

Other than what's been happening on that level and the food has been hot. Still the portions seem inadequate and the quality is back down. They come up with some things that look like the product of a night of drinking whiskey and eating pizza. Barfff! I bet not a lot of this stuff would make a buzzard think twice. They mix stuff so that it's unrecognizable.

Still no word on electricity. These assholes are made by law to give us our fans, right? Yes? Now they play games with electricity. They have given most of us our fans (not me). So now we wait for electricity. My list of things we'd like to see changed in the last 3 months, let's see what changed. NOTHING! It's pitiful but not 1 thing on that list has been changed, not 1. Sad statistic of affairs here on Polunsky. Can't wait until tomorrow. We're supposed to have a fairly large crowd for the protest. I'll be at my window. Hopefully I'll be able to see a few of you this week (smile)

8:50 am - Protest day all day long. Today was recreation day for restrictions so I went outside with Soulja. He jacked the yard. They are out there talking to him now. Lt. Price and Sgt. Griffin have been out there about 10 minutes now.

8:45 am - They just left. Soulja isn't trying to hear it. Now it's all about the waiting game (frown).

9:30 am - He just went ahead and came in. I think they were just going to leave him out there but it's hard telling.

6.00 pm - Once again I was overjoyed as I looked out and saw all of you walking to the wardens house. I flashed my mirror and banged on the steel around the window. Anyone see/hear me? Smile.

You all have to realize how much it means to us. Thank you everyone, especially Amelia A. who droves many miles just to protest. What makes her and her crew special is, they do it for all of us, they don't even have anyone on the row, but still they fight for us. We must all strive to recruit more like her. We must reach out to them. There are many out there who feel as she does but have no one to speak to them. Many just need our encouragement to step forward. We need to swell our numbers, so that our voices will rise above the others and we will start being heard. Yes, we are being heard now but our voices are still being drown out by those who strive to keep us caged like animals with nothing. It's because of them this administration does what it does. I encourage you to tell 1 person about our plight and try to enlist their help.

May 12
Today again has been a quiet day. Sitting around, staring at the walls. Mothers day. HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TO MOMS EVERYWHERE. Smile

Sundays are always Blah! There's nothing going on or no mail to look forward to. It's really my worst day just because of the mail. So I usually just lay around in a stupor thinking about the past and the future. What else is there to do? (frown)

May 13
They came earlier today and started to take down the Plexiglas shields off the front of our cells. Something about it came out of Huntsville. They got 4 down and here comes an officer telling them "no, no, not F-section" and he smiled. We are supposed tp be the worst of the worst's worst. One officer seen them taking the shields down and just shook his head. I told him I had retired (smile). So anyway they put them back up and left. Word is though that they will eventually all be taken down. I don't believe it myself, not for F section anyway. They have to have chunk proof cells somewhere.

Other than that? Well, they still haven't come to fix the electricity. I filed a grievance on that last disciplinary case. I may win it if the warden plays fair. It could go either way really. There's no disputing Mrs. Calvin lies though, so I should win.

May 14
We had lunch a while ago and everything tasted funny. We had baked chicken, rice/gravy squash, lima beans and a hamburger bun. Everything tasted fishy literally. I dumped it in the toilet, it smelled so nasty. Hopefully they have something half way decent for supper. Frown.

May 15
Things have been very mellow this last week with not a lot going on. Today a tour of newboots (new guards) on OJT (on Job Training) came through. They were being filled with lies as always. Sgt. Pansy Duff came over to my cell to demonstrate how to open and close the food box. When he stepped to my cell he said "Now, behave Colella." If I could have, I would have slapped him in the mouth then and there without a second thought. Speak to a man like that and be prepared for repercevtions. I'm not a dog. Next time I see him I will pull him up and talk to him to explain it because I don't think he even realized what he done. If he'd been alone I'd have at least cursed him out but I didn't want to make the description of us any worse by going off just then.

There are now only 5 of us left on F section. Daryll Wheatfall made his Level II so did some others on E section. I can't keep up very well on my new schedule. I wake up about 11-12 at night, stay up till 11-1 in the day.

We did find out that maintenance did come to work on the electricity but balked and sulked because there were so many, so they refused and said they had to talk to the main supervisor. These cells are heating up more every day, since the sun sets on our walls. The afternoons are
especially getting bad.

I have received some feedback from several people. Thank you for letting me know you're still with me. It means a lot to me to know what I write helps people to better understand. Even if some people don't get it. I got an email from a man who sounded just like Warden Chance. "Your in prison, you put yourself there, so you deserve what you get." Apparently he's another who has no idea about how screwed up my case is. He just assumes I put myself here. It's okay through, everyone has an opinion, even assholes like him. (smile)

Okay my friends, it's time to put this one in the mail. Stand tall, stay strong, be proud.

In struggle and solidarity.
