View Full Version : Welcome to the new Avenal State Prison forum! Barbara 12-18-2005, 12:25 PM OK start posting:) Love Barb Crstnamre 12-18-2005, 05:32 PM I just wanted to say thank you for doing this...making our own sub forum. Thanks Barb. Nanoguy 12-18-2005, 09:15 PM Makes it easier for me and the way I read through the forums. Now I don't have to go through so many meaningless posts and can come to where the action people are. Don't get me wrong, I'm here to support everybody but, I don't need to know who is drinking what kind of coffee in the morning, or, yeah me too, etc....Anyway, thanks again. California Sunshine 12-18-2005, 10:45 PM Welcome everyone to the new forum :) Nanoguy 12-19-2005, 09:22 AM Don't know why 6 Yard is on lockdown, but, they are. Maybe Holiday Cheer got to be too much and they got into some pruno?....As for 3 Yard, apparently they had another case of chicken pox discovered on Saturday AND Sunday......How can they move 15-20 new inmates onto a medically quarantined yard? That makes sense, right? Oh well, did anybody visit this last weekend? Anybody going next weekend (besides me)? eastsidebkrs13 12-19-2005, 10:11 PM Hey , Cool , So Its all good!! Hi Everyone, My name is Patti, and although I am not new to the system, we are new to Avenal. So I am trying to learn as much about the place, and how they do things there as I can. Thanks for any help any of you can give me. :new: BRATT_GURL 01-06-2007, 02:29 PM Hi Jordanrae, Thanks for the welcome. I guess I am most interested in knowing how much drama to expect from Avenal, and how their family visits are run. Stay Strong, Patti  kittenn0816 01-06-2007, 10:28 PM Welcome Patti ::) TerriB 01-06-2007, 11:38 PM Patti, since we have already talked I'll fill you in a bit on the family visits ... your husband will pick out 3 dates and if one of them is open the LT will tell him the dates, you will have to have money on his books in order for him to order the food, all food has to come from the commisary and he will place that order and they will deliver it to your "home" ...You can get one every 90 days if there aren't any problems and he doesn't get into any trouble at all. Sometime they allow them more often but that is rare since there are so many inmates at ASP now. You know the things you can take in I'm sure since it is the same as the other CA prisons I am thinking although not sure since never had one at any other prison. You go for the family visit at the same location as you do with normal visiting they will then verify everything and will take you over to the "house" your hubby will be there already waiting for you. The are for 48 hours and if out of state extended can be up to 96 hours but those are only every 6 months. That is about all I know ... hope it helps. BRATT_GURL 01-07-2007, 12:33 PM Thanks Terri, It's been a few years since we've had a F/V, but I'm sure not a lot has changed. Although who knows, they have changed so much over the years. I miss the days when we could bring in our own food, bedding, etc.. Thanks for the help, and for all the warm welcomes from everyone. Patti angelface25 01-07-2007, 09:29 PM I wish I lived out there or even had the money so I could afford to go out there. Our son will be a month and a half from turning 8 by the time my man gets out. I would give almost anything to ahve a family visit. Or even just a regular visit. But it does seem almost like time is moving alittle faster here lately. I have been out of town and unable to get on and check out any of the forums here. Has anything new happened on 3 yard? activistmom 01-19-2007, 01:01 PM Well, I guess my son will be in this warehouse for awhile, having just moved there and living in a gym with two to three hundred other souls. It's a good thing he's out of reception and we can talk again, at least once in awhile. And hopefully we'll have an in-person visit soon and our first hug in 1 1/2 years, oh my. My job is to help him access what he needs to make progress in his life and not just vegetate, molder, so to speak, in the warehouse. I have an ebook on correspondance courses available nationwide. I'd be happy to look things up for people who might want/be able to send course materials to their loved one. No doubt the warden has to approve and it's not easy studying in a room FULL of people, but we'll see what can be done and post information somewhere on the wonderful PTO. Queenangie 01-23-2007, 09:17 PM Hi Patti, I just had my last f.v. in Nov. 06, it's a little different now. Once the visit is approved, you will order the food. Once the food gets to f.v. ofc. they will give your husband a date. If you order food and gets there before they approve the date, they can cancel it all together and it will have to be re-submitted or they can take them away for a while. They just changed the procedures within the last 6 months and I've been going for almost 3 yrs now. Thanks for the offer about the "course materials" Activistmom. :D That is something that I would be very much interested in for my friend, he would like to get his contractor's license. He now has the time to study for sure, plus like you said, it helps to keep the guys busy and not just sitting around. Hopefully, you will be able to post something here on the site, soon. Lisamara :) BRATT_GURL 01-24-2007, 05:05 PM Thanks for all the info QueenAngie. We haven't even been approved for f.v.'s yet, I just got approved for regular visiting. But it's nice to know ahead of time what to expect, so thanks. Patti  theycallmecc 02-09-2007, 09:21 PM I'm new to ASP, we just moved from RJD RC to Central Cali. If you have informative THINGS-I-NEED-TO-KNOW that are not in the online guide for ASP, please let me know. I am especially interested to learn about the visitation process. (I imagine each Correction Center varies a li'l.) Thank-you in Advance! cc TerriB 02-10-2007, 03:41 AM Hi CC Welcome to ASP glad to have you with us. My strongest SUGGESTION to everyone new coming to ASP is to read the prison Avenal State Prison Guide, there it list all hotels/motels, visiting phone number as you can call and make appointments, all other numbers you might need for the prison as well. Also you will see that we have selected post for visiting, complaints, phone issues just read through them as well, feel free to PM me with other questions you might have as well. If you don't see anything about what your wanting feel free to post it as well, our great group here at ASP have a wealth of knowledge and we will help you as much as possible. Again Welcome to ASP. Sam loves Jeff 03-27-2008, 02:56 AM My fiancee was transferred to Avenal last week from CCI and I cannot wait to talk to him.:D I just got my phone hooked up with PCO today, but it will not be ready until 48 hours or so. Nevertheless, I am excited. My fiancee is doing life and he has been down for 15 years already. Hopefully, when he goes to the BPH next year they will give him a date to go home. I look forward to conversing with everyone. Let's keep our heads up and keep reaching for the starz. Peace  Lisamara 03-27-2008, 10:42 AM Sam loves Jeff... Welcome... :) 1Sharonty 03-29-2008, 03:50 AM hey Sam and welcome to ASP forum... westcoastlove 06-08-2008, 12:22 PM Im new to this prison talk community I definately appreciate having it ,however Ive never been to a visit in Avanal as of yet Im in Washington state ....so when I do come how long are the visits and are there reasonably priced motels close to the institution? Ooooh and my bad if I posted this in the wrong area but I dont see where we're supposed to post new questions or comments:angry: 1Sharonty 06-09-2008, 01:04 AM Hi Westcoastlove...you came to the correct place. The visits are Friday from 12pm - 7pm ( i'm prettry sure that's right, i've only been once on Friday) and saturday & sunday 8am - 3pm. It's best if you make an appt they have to be made 2 weeks in advance. that way you are assured a full day of visiting instead of just showing up and waiting for a number to be called sometime later in the day after all the appts are finished being called. The hotel i usually stay at is Motel 6 in Coalinga. It seems to be the most reasonable (though it has went up to recently) it's about $42.99 hope this helps at least a little. I'm sure someone will correct what I'm wrong about but that's pretty close... welcome |
